assisted deliveries

Hi everyone,
Just after people's experiences, I have 2 DC's and both labours were 36+hours 1st ending in episiotomy and ventouse and the second in theatre with forcepts, episiotomy, very nearly had to have a csec under general.
My question is...How likely will it be for me to need another assisted delivery. I'm absolutely terrified of me, DH and my baby going through all of that again. I have really been thinking of asking for a csec ( i understand the risks, the recovery time, the pain ect!) I just don't think I can cope with the mental side of having to go through all of that again.
Does anyone have any advice or stories, good or bad?

I don't have any advice, but I have been through an assisted delivery and I completely understand how u feel. I just could not do it again. If I ever had another I think I would also request a section. Would love to know how you get on and what u decide xx

I just worry that i'll get laughed at if I bring up the possibility of a csec. I feel like they'll think I just want the 'easy way out' (i can't see anything easy about having a section though tbh) I'm so scared of going through another traumatic birth.

I've got no advice, but am currently 30+6 with DC2 and am getting an ELCS at 39 weeks due to the mental trauma of previous birth.

It was a medically straightforward induction ending in forceps, but i found the whole process & recovery so hard, combined with postnatal depression, that DH and I decided not to have any more children. Then along came this completely unplanned pregnancy

Midwife suggested considering ELCS at my booking appointment, and consultant agreed when I saw her at 24 weeks. It has been a huge relief as despite knowing that CS recovery isn't easy, at least it won't be a repeat at last time.

Thank you. I had my booking in app today, I'm thinking I probably should of mentioned the way I feel about this. Im 11+5. Should I prepare myself for a long battle over this do you think? Your midwife sounds lovely, mine seemed nice but they didn't really seemed fussed when we went through my past births. Xx

I didn't have a battle but from what I've heard it completely depends on the area you are in and your consultant. Even in our area some consultants are more open to ELCS than others. I found some really good advice from other threads on here which helped me prepare for meeting with the consultant.

You won't get laughed at. I've requested a section after a very long labour last time that ended in an emcs. Due to my experience I'm fairly convinced I'd panic a bit when contractions start, which isn't conducive to things progressing nicely. The hospital were perfectly ok with what I'd suggested.

At my first appointment at the hospital, at which they referred me to a consultant, I'm fairly sure the mw passed me to an understanding consultant so I wouldn't have a fight on my hands.

I had a similar birth to you plus an awful recovery and prolapse. I have a real fear of induction now as I'm convinced that was the reason for the awful birth. I mentioned it to the midwife at my booking in appointment but when I met my consultant (pre existing medical condition) she was completely dismissive and even wrote in my book 'vaginal birth preferred' which isn't the bloody case! Got my 16 week midwife appointment tomor so going to have another chat with midwife about it.

Thanks for your replies. I hope my consultant is understanding, I also have a medical condition. With dc2 I asked for a section because of my fears and the fact a scan supposedly my him 10lb7! (He wasn't, he seemed tiny at 7lb5) but they point blank refused so ended up with a horrendous labour and delivery but I hear that the guidelines have changed since then. I will keep my fingers crossed that they listen to me and good luck to everyone having their babies xxx
