feel guilty

I feel guilty whenever I eat chocolate because someone told me it's bad for the baby, I know it's not an it's only 'harmful' if you eat around 8 bars a day!

I certainly don't I eat one at most sometimes not even a full one and cut it out for the first 10 weeks (I'm only 13wks) I don't have any caffeine at all

Please someone reassure me I'm being stupid even though I keep telling myself I am but I'm paying no attention to myself like a muppet

I'm aware there's small amounts of caffeine in chocolate before anyone tells me

I mean I don't have caffeinated drinks

Hope your ok x

Thanks!
I think I like to find a new thing to worry about daily! Pregnancy really is one of the most worrying times I'm shocked I thought it was all happiness and excitement how naive of me

I told my mum that current advice is to avoid caffeine. She said that explains why I'm a bit bonkers Hmm. I reminded her that's genetics and nothing to do with the copious amounts of caffeine she consumed during her pregnancy back when no body knew you shouldn't.

I think caffeine consumption has been shown to have some links with miscarriage in the first 12 weeks and low birth weight later on but that really is if you are consuming a lot. The GDA during pregnancy is 200mg. That means I get 2 lovely cups of tea a day and you're absolutely fine with your bar of chocolate Smile I'd be with you in the chocolate but for the first time in my life I've lost my sweet tooth and even the thought makes me nauseous Sad

weeblueberry · 28/02/2015 13:44

My darling if it gets you through the day, eat that chocolate. You'd have to be having it in massive, excessive qualities for it to have a harmful impact. Particularly if you're holding back on caffeine in other areas. Oh and remember different types of chocolate have different amounts of caffeine in - dark chocolate has much more than milk etc. :)

BallroomWithNoBalls · 28/02/2015 16:29

Oh my word! I have eaten so much junk food in this pregnancy and I'm not worried at all. Babies are amazing at taking exactly what they need from you. You will feel ill long before they do. I occasionally have a glass of wine too and sometimes throw it straight back up again - that's my body saying nope to that! But chocolate - go for it. And please don't worry about what you are eating, enjoy stuffing yourself Smile

Skiptonlass · 01/03/2015 15:10

You will be absolutely fine. Unless you're eating several bars a day, you're alright.

There is an association between caffeine and miscarriage, but up to 200mg a day is deemed absolutely safe.

Eat the choc and enjoy it!

Ratarse · 01/03/2015 15:19

I'm sat here eating a double decker!

seaoflove · 01/03/2015 15:24

I'm not even bothering to keep track of my caffeine intake (second pregnancy, much more blasé!). I'm sure it's not excessive, whatever it is. As for chocolate... pfft.

SingingSands · 01/03/2015 15:28

What?! When I was pregnant in 2004 and 2008 there were studies published that eating chocolate in pregnancy meant happier babies. It was the link to mums going "Mmm, yummy chocolate" and releasing endorphins, which made mum and baby happy! I have no idea where these studies could be found, think I just stumbled upon then on the bbc news website whilst surfing the net in my lunch breaks!

THEworrywart · 01/03/2015 15:39

It's changed now, you're allowed 8 bars a day some say 4 depends where you're looking.

The guidelines constantly change it's weird

I am a huge chocoholic everything has to be coated in the stuff haha! So i sincerely hope there is no danger! I just worry she will be a little fatty :P

GlitzAndGigglesx · 01/03/2015 17:28

I still consume black coffee daily a cup in the morning or I get horrible withdrawal symptoms. Mw said 1-2 is fine but didn't mention chocolate. I love the stuff especially toffee crisp!

Jaffakake · 01/03/2015 18:10

My baby is basically made of chocolate, the last one was too & he's been raising hell as a typical 3 year old all day!

My advice, in true harsh mn style, get out of the habit of feeling guilty about stuff now, otherwise it'll eat you up by the time your baby is 6 months old!

THEworrywart · 01/03/2015 18:14

I'm an anorexic in recovery I don't think I'll be able to stop being guilty any time soon Sad

Then you have an even better reason to eat the chocolate. Every bar is you sticking two fingers up at the anorexia.

Seriously though - that's maybe the root of your worry, not the caffeine?

Good luck to you, and keep eating the chocolate! :) @hug@

seaoflove · 01/03/2015 19:11

Besides, eight bars of chocolate a day is "harmful" because it's not a good idea to eat eight bars of chocolate per day. The caffeine content is irrelevant Smile

applecore0317 · 01/03/2015 19:40

Have you been referred to a consultant worrywart? I was referred due to previous ED, they will help yup manage weight gain and eating habits in pregnancy.

I have been ok so far aside from a few wobbles, but knowing there is support there should I need it helps

THEworrywart · 01/03/2015 19:46

Yes I'm already under two consultants both want to leave cbt till after having the baby as I've been suffering since 8 years old.
