Any truth in cravings?

Hey ladies. I have 3 weeks until my scan when myself and hubby find out what we are having. Just wanted opinions on the theory of cravings having some sort of hint at what I may be having. Ever since early on in my pregnancy I have mad cravings for lots of fruit, huge amounts of chocolate (before pregnancy I could only eat couple squares of chocolate at a time, never had a sweet tooth) cakes, haribo, milkshakes, general a major sweet tooth. I have heard this indicates a girl, what are people's thoughts?

Apparently sweet cravings indicate a girl. I ate nothing but mango and chocolate eclairs last time and had a boy.

no special sweet cravings with either. But was a vegetarian before DS and started eating meat when pregnant with him. And went totally off meat when pregnant with DD.

Number3cometome · 25/02/2015 15:21

I am totally off sweet food, makes me feel sick, dizzy and I fall asleep almost straight after.

I am craving carbs, especially jacket potatoes.

I am 19 + 3 with a boy.

I have a DS already, I have cravings for fish, gravy, mayo, scampi.

I have a DD, I craved hash browns and peanut butter!

I had a massive sweet tooth last pregnancy and I had a boy :D Actually it may have just been more of a "food" tooth - give me food, lots of food, aaaaaaaaalllll the foooood.....

This time it's still relatively early days (11 weeks), so I'm just on the orange juice and salt and vinegar crisps at the moment, but we'll see how it goes!

With dd1 I drank full fat coke like it was going out of fashion even though I hadn't had any for years (gained over 4 stones too!), with this one I haven't had the slightest urge for it and am carrying another girl.

rosedavo · 25/02/2015 17:59

Im normally more of a sweet person but ive been seriously craving salty snacks, crisps etc and just found out im having a boy x

hestialou · 25/02/2015 19:32

Think body craves what it needs, when I was vegetarian I craved lots of nuts (non pregnant) now my cravings change daily. would love roast potato's and gravy right now!

I'm 21 weeks and just found out We're having a girl. I've not had any major cravings apart from milk, cheese and yoghurt type products.

BeCool · 26/02/2015 03:22

With DD1 I ate lots of cake.

With DD2 I ate coleslaw daily. Sometime more than once. I could have existed purely on coleslaw (mostly homemade and not overly creamy).

DefiniteMaybe · 26/02/2015 03:27

With both of my girls I craved milk. Usually I hate milk but by the end of both pregnancies I was drinking 4 pints or more a day.

catnip85 · 26/02/2015 08:07

Am also pregnant with a girl and guzzling milk like there's no tomorrow!

mumxof3x · 26/02/2015 08:23

This is my 4th pregnancy and 4th boy. Each time its been different minus the ice cubes in 3/4 of them. First was chinese and ice pops, second was nothing until 20wk wheniI jus wanted cake and ice cubes, 3rd was ice cubes, crisps and chocolate, this time ice cubes, fresh fruit, sweets cakes and buiscuits

Stinkylinky · 26/02/2015 09:03

I craved cheese (well, more than normal!) and read somewhere that this indicated I was having a boy and I am!

wowiesis111 · 26/02/2015 11:53

My cravings were exactly the same both times. Sour Grapefruit, sweets, salt and vinegar crisps ( the saltier the better) , fizzy water and ice lollies. Both are boys. I knew I was having a second boy based on my similar cravings before we'd even had the scan.

both me and my friend had the same cravings. She is having a girl and I am having a boy so doesn't make a difference in don't think.

CarbeDiem · 26/02/2015 15:26

Ds1 - huge cravings for any sweet stuff plus boiled rice and tinned tomatoes.
Ds2 - the boiled rice and tinned tomatoes plus absolutely anything salty.
ds3 - yes again the boiled rice and toms plus as much haribo cola bottles as I could eat without being sick :)

I don't think there's anything in cravings - you want what you want.
A friends daughter had to keep dipping her finger and licking persil washing powder, she couldn't keep fighting it so gave in - bleurgh!

ireallydontlikemonday · 26/02/2015 15:45

Haribo and strawberries, a bag a day and two punnets at one point = twin girls.
