Maternity allowance

How long does it take from applying to getting it? I've been waiting a good couple to three weeks, and just wondered what experiences anyone else has had? TIA

Just over three weeks for me. Have you got the letter saying they're looking into it, along with your returned payslips yet?

Hi MexicanTortilla. I've also applied for Maternity Allowance due to not earning enough weekly at my workplace. Sent off everything about a week ago I think, maybe just over, and was wondering the same thing. As I go on maternity leave next week! I work a month in hand so luckily next month I will have my average pay anyway but I'm due in April so would like to know what money I'll be receiving that month! I was thinking of calling the Jobcentre just to check they've received it. I would hate to wait and then find out it got lost in the post or something! I might call today/tomorrow

I got payslips and a reply slip to say they were looking at it probably about a week after I sent it, they were very quick at sending that back, I was surprised, hopefully I'll hear something soon, I've actually been on mat leave nearly 5 weeks, I was just disorganised at sending it in! I understand they will pay up to 3 months backdated so expect to get all the weeks owed from when I started ML which should just work out nice as I'm on my last weeks pay now

I sent my application recorded delivery as it had payslips etc in it, I think they sent them back signed for too

I got that back about 1.5 weeks later, then the pay started another 1.5 weeks after that.

It took 2.5 weeks for me to get the acknowledgement letter. I actually just rang them because I'm going on mat leave on Monday and they told over the phone about my entitlement. Funnily enough the letter arrived the next day (this was last week). I would give them a ring to check. It's the number at the very end of the form. They were helpful and I got through really quickly

I've just received a letter saying they are paying me from 7th dec to 3rd of march and then fortnightly from 17th march until September. I don't understand why? I put on the forms that I wanted it to start from a date in January and also put down when my last working day was which was also in January? Any clues??

Mine took 3 week from sending it of to getting it. I did ring them up and the women told me it had gone through received letter few days later after ringing them.
I would ring them up if they not used the date you have asked for to get it changed I lost my job so I had mine since start of Feb till the end of October.

Get paid every wed every 2 weeks.

MexicanTortilla unfortunately I can't help you there as I have no clue about mine yet myself. I'm sure someone on here will know. Best thing you can do is ring them. When in doubt I always ring if I can to try and get a straight answer!

I understand that someone on here has said that the number is on the form, but I no longer have the form (or is that what I sent off?) so does anyone happen to have the direct number? Thank you

The number I used for them was this 0845 608 8610 if you are welsh they have a different number. It's from the maternity allowance paperwork just go through the options :)

Ooh skyra that was next on my to-do list, to call about the maternity grant. But wasn't sure as I only sent it off a week ago today. What is the number?

I've called Maternity Allowance and spoke to a really helpful lady. She confirmed that they have received my documents and that my claim would be processed by the 6th March. She said I should receive my wage slips back in the post tomorrow or Friday. She said the letter should follow shortly after the 6th but there's a possibility it could take a little while and so to keep checking my account as some money may be paid in before I receive the letter.
For reference I sent it off around 2 weeks ago, so not too bad really.

No problem the number for the Grant is 0845 603 6967.
The maternity allowance people are good the grant people not so much.

Waited 3 weeks from them they will say you need to wait for 17 working days.
I waited and rang them they say they never got mine have sent it again tracked this time they received it on Monday but its a ball ache as I really could do with the grant moneys!

Just hope I can get it! Make sure you say to them on the phone that's its for the sure start grant.

I got letter confirming MA and all details 4 weeks after applying,tho this was over the Christmas period so could have taken so long because of that, finished up work 2 weeks later and had to send form with exact stop date (even tho I gave it on original form) got a payment just over a week later!

For mine, I phoned them to check up on it's progress and they told me I needed to call on my first day of ML and confirm that I had started ML that day and my last day of working. Then they sent me a letter later that week with payment dates. I had sent it 6 weeks in advance so was surprised it took up until the start of ML to get it all sorted.
