How long did it take you to conceive once you had the Mirina coil taken out?

We're planning to start trying for DC2 at the end of this year. I had the coil put in about 6 months ago, and my GP said that once you have it removed, fertility returns straight away. I'm planning to have it taken out at the end of oct/beginning of November to allow me one natural period before we try. Am I being too confident about falling pregnant straight after that period? We got pregnant straight away with DC1, so I'm hoping it'll be the same for the second child but don't want to chance things.. TIA Smile

The mirena coil releases the same hormones that the mini pill does I think. I came off that and my periods were normal straight away, although a long cycle. I came off it in June and fell pregnant in September, we weren't actually TTC and we were using other protection :)

I fell pregnant straight after having it removed with DS x

I had my coil removed at the end of October, discovered I was pregnant in December. So I fell pregnant on my second cycle after having it out!

Treesandbees · 23/02/2015 07:56

I fell pg the month I had it out but sadly miscarried. Personally I would definitely have 1 period before trying as it was awkward to date the pg and I'm sure my body wasn't ready. I then fell pg with DS 4 months later. So overall v quick! This time I have been on no contraception and it took 10 cycles to conceive. Just thought I'd mention it as it was a shock after conceiving so quickly first time around!!

I had mine removed in the January and was pregnant by the end of February. Took me by surprise tbh!

alien11 · 23/02/2015 08:02

I had my couple removed in July and fell pregnant with no.2 in January x

18yearstooold · 23/02/2015 08:05

I had mine removed in January and had dd2 in October

The doctor moaned at me though because I'd only had it a year

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 23/02/2015 08:07

I had the coil out mid Jan, got pregnant 3 weeks later

That took me by surprise!

sauvignonblacks · 23/02/2015 08:14

Happened to me In the same cycle too! Much quicker than expected
Good luck!

Wow! These are some amazing stories! Thank you everyone for your replies Smile
I'm so sorry to hear about your mc Trees.
I definitely want to have one natural period before we try so then I can work out when I ovulate easier. End of October seems like the right time to get it taken out.
When I had it put in my doctor said I can have it taken out whenever I want. What's it to them if you've only had it a year!? It's your body!!

I only had my coil in for less than 4 months. I had over 10 weeks of constant bleeding and then had bleeding pretty much every other week and had had enough!

laurenamium · 24/02/2015 10:13

I had mine out the 28th July, I had bfp by the 14th August!

blackwidow74 · 24/02/2015 13:51

Had mine out Jan 14 ... finally got BFP Aug 15 ... now 32 weeks :) so 6 months!!

blackwidow74 · 24/02/2015 13:51

Aug 14** silly little buttons lol

When I got my mirena out to ttc dc2 my periods returned to the crazy heavy very irregular state they had previously been in (after having none at all) and I conceived on the 5th cycle .

I'm about to get it taken back out (more for medical reasons this time) but I'm not going to use another form of birth control because we are happy to have a dc3 . I'll let you know how long it takes this time ! Grin

Oh and just a bit of advice . The first period I had after getting mine out was horrendous ! I bled heavily for about 6 days right through to my jeans when it first came on and then having to wear 3 maxi pads . This may not happen to you but it's just a wee warning that it could just so you are prepared ! Smile Good luck !!

MrsD14 · 24/02/2015 19:48

Took us three months. Good luck! Smile

AuntieDee · 25/02/2015 07:47

I had the mirena for 17 years and was told it could take upwards of a year. I had it removed in November and got pregnant in December.

Skiptonlass · 25/02/2015 15:13

You can get knocked up immediately. It took me four months, but to be honest we weren't scientific about it until month four (random shagging rather than directed ..)

I had no periods on mirena so it had obviously thinned the uterine lining out rather. It took me a couple of cycles to get back to a normalish period, and even then my period was much lighter and shorter than before I had the mirena. My cycle went from 28 days pre to 25 days post. Doesn't seem to have stopped us though - I'm six weeks along and merrily chucking my guts up as we speak.

Best of luck! I suggest Internet cheapie ovulation sticks (Amazon do them, super cheap) to just get a handle on your cycle as it comes back.
