Help.

Does anybody know anything I can take for an excruciating headache. I've had it all day and its getting to hard to handle now. I'm close to tears.

I took half a paracetamol earlier out of desperation, but its done nothing to ease it.

Please does anyone have any advice at all.

Thank you. Xxxx

You can take the normal adults one of paracetamol in pregnancy, 4 hourly with no more than 8 in 24 hours.
Hope your head clears soon x

Shesparkles · 21/02/2015 20:04

Normal adult DOSE that should be

Mum2B2first · 21/02/2015 20:05

Really shesparkes. Can I. I thought o couldn't and got in such a panic earlier over taking the half. That was about 5 hours ago. I'll try another one. I NEVER suffer from headaches but they seem to be pretty regular just now, but this is by far the worst I have experienced ever.

Thank you again. Xxx

Take a proper dose of paracetamol and drink a pint of water with it. Try and have a warm bath/shower, go to bed and sleep.

piglet81 · 21/02/2015 20:06

NHS guidance says paracetamol is usually fine in pregnancy, so I'd try a proper dose (2 tablets) - don't think half of one would do much. I am not a medic though so maybe call NHS direct if you're worried. Have you drunk plenty of water today? Hope you feel better soon.

NerrSnerr · 21/02/2015 20:06

Take 2 paracetamol- it's fine to take. In fact, I was prescribed paracetamol through my whole pregnancy.

Showy · 21/02/2015 20:07

Take two paracetamol. One is not going to help you with a v bad headache.

Nishky · 21/02/2015 20:07

Can you phone a midwife? I was given stronger painkillers for a bad back- but that was much later in pregnancy.l

Otherwise can you lie in dark room- I had terrible headaches in pregnancy so you have my sympathy.

Can those things you rub on your head, or the patch thingies be used-if your midwife oaks it is there a big supermarket nearby where someone could get them.

Cold flannel if not? You poor thing.

Nishky · 21/02/2015 20:08

Ok's it, not oaks!

Mum2B2first · 21/02/2015 20:11

Have taken 2 and am running a bath. Have been keeping an eye on water in take and think its enough. Hopefully will clear up.

Pregnancy, what fun it is!!!! ;)

How many weeks?
If it's something not usual for you, I would ring up the midwives or see GP.

OttiliaVonBCup · 21/02/2015 20:14

Oh sorry, I see you are 11+6.

I'll ring them up.

BIWI · 21/02/2015 20:17

It's to do with your hormones. I had migraines with my first pregnancy, with my second 'only' severe headaches.

They are horrible, and you have all my sympathy!

But the key thing with migraines is that you must treat them at the very first sign - as your system shuts down, so the drugs won't be absorbed.

Paracetamol is perfectly fine - just take two at the very first sign of a headache.

Hopefully the headaches will abate soon - I had them with DS1 from 11-18 weeks, and then nothing after that.

Mum2B2first · 21/02/2015 20:17

Do you think I should call. It is something I never suffer from. And I can't stand light noise or anything. Its so bad um partially rocking which seems to soothe it (I sound crazy)

Headaches are part of pregnancy, but anything different for the usual pattern - I would check with someone.

I don't know, maybe it's just me.

BIWI · 21/02/2015 20:30

I would definitely check it out with your GP, just to make sure it's not related to something like high blood pressure.

Lilacflower · 21/02/2015 20:31

I sympathise as I had these all through my first pregnancy and am 9+2 with my second now and had my first one yesterday Sad You can take paracetemol and the midwife told me I could take co codomol if they were really bad.

But the only thing that really helped me is drinking a can of coke ! weird but worth a try

Fluffin · 21/02/2015 22:00

I checked with my midwife as I've had headaches most days, paracetamol is fine. Hope it passes soon x

skinnylegs33 · 21/02/2015 22:05

Did it help at all? I hope you're feeling better Cake
It's probably too late now, but try not to take very hot baths. Hopefully you knew this already.

drivingmenutty · 21/02/2015 22:13

Please don't worry about taking paracetamol, it's safe in pregnancy at the normal adult dose. Headaches are very common at this stage, don't suffer.

Shesparkles · 21/02/2015 22:20

Hope you're feeling better now and are sound asleep!

RingtheBells · 21/02/2015 22:25

It sounds like a migraine, hope it's bit better now

Mum2B2first · 21/02/2015 23:48

Hi ladies.

Thank you all ever so much for all the advice.

I ended up calling nhs24 and they had me head up to OOH GP for a check over. All is well with baby and they have me some cocodamol so I've taken 2 of them and finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I want to thank you all for your quick replies and help, I really was quite worried for a while.
