This may be a silly question but where do I get this from? Reading up says I need it for work before 25 weeks but my next midwife appt after 16 weeks is 25 weeks. Any ideas?

But you're not allowed to be given them until after 20 weeks by law Beyoncescat?

all stopped up - how do you ask your MW, I've just seen a different one every time at Dr surgery so I don't have one as such!

We don't get given a midwife mobile number - I only have a hospital midwife number for emergencies. This is all so confusing....

This is a flaw with the system. They recently moved to giving it to employers slightly earlier, but it doesn't fit with the schedule of midwife appointments in the nhs. My midwife signed it and left it at surgery for me. Another option is to ask at 20 week scan whether someone can write one for you.

Call the community midwives number via the usual method and ask to speak to someone. They are usually really good at telling you how things work over the phone.

I'm shocked they don't give you a number for your midwife. Try speaking to your gp surgery. They'll be able to pass on your request

Mine completed at 25 week appointment and I gave it straight to work. Wasn't a problem and as work then misplaced it seems they don't need it until start paying mat pay.

I was in the same boat and he stupid thing is I'm having antenatal in the same hospital I work in. He midwife eventually gave it to me at 20 weeks because I said I needed it and argued the case but when I spoke to HR they we're surprised but actually said as long as I had submitted it to payroll by the time I was sending off all my paperwork stating what I wanted to do for my maternity leave then it was ok. If you can't get it, take your maternity notes with you and explain.
Seems stupid that the rules changed for employers but nobody bothered to tell th midwives

When you go to the GP, just ask the midwife you see. I THINK (although my memory is sketchy) I requested it and she posted it.

I saw a few different midwives at GP appointments throughout my pregnancy too last time. I did have a number for the community midwife though. Its odd that you don't have one.

Oh I've just realised I'm in the same boat. I've just had my 16w appointment and I'm not due to see my midwife again until 25w. I'm going to have to ring my drs. Last time I handed my form in a week late.

your work doesnt actually need the MatB1 until nearer the birth date.

www.gov.uk/maternity-pay-leave/how-to-claim - says that you have to tell your work about your pregnancy and when you want to start your leave at least 15 weeks before your due date. It does not say you need to give your MatB1 at that stage.

It goes on to say

Within 21 days of your SMP start date (or as soon as possible if the baby’s born early) give your employer either:

a letter from your doctor or midwife
your MATB1 certificate - doctors and midwives usually issue these 20 weeks before the due date

Ah so getting it at 25 weeks is fine then!

Allstoppedup I have a community midwife team number but thought this was just for emergencies not queries. I did phone once and no-one picked up!!!

Our community midwife number is for general enquiries. I'm sure if you called them (and got through!) They would be able to help you out/point you in the direction of someone who could.

Did they have an answering facility? It seems like they've not been particularly good at setting up a decent line of communication with you!

I got mine at the 25 week appointment. Your work should be fine with that.

I get mine at my 25 week midwife appointment, which is my qualifying week (15 th week before due date) that I have to hand it into work.

At 20 weeks my midwife said to ring surgery and shell sign it and just collect it from desk.

There really is no need to worry about when you get it. The 25 week stuff is about notifying work you are pregnant. The MATb1 can follow when you get it - e.g. at the 25 week appt.

MissTwister - the mw set up you describe sounds like mine was in London. Did you get voicemail? Our number generally wasn't answered, but if you left a message someone would (in theory) return your call. Sadly the idea of a named mw who gave me her number was a pipe dream in London.

your work does not need the MatB1 when you are notifying them about your pregnancy, it can be handed in later on, so no need to panic about not getting it until 25 weeks

No there was no VM it just rang out! Its apparently a 24hr number, maybe it was a one off. I didn't try again as spoke to doctor
