no corpus luteum seen at 8+ scan

I've had an early scan at 8+6 due to a small amount of bleeding and slight pain (both stopped) and my scan notes said corpus luteum not seen.

The sonographer said to me something along the lines of you are pregnant today but we cant see what will happen in the future. Which l thought was weird and didn't mention the corpus luteum to me but l have just received my notes.

Anyone have any experience with this? I'm pregnant again after 2 mc so am kind of expecting the worst.

No experience personally re corpus luteum but couldn't read and run, I had 2 early mc's too so I know it's an awful worry in early pregnancy, and I just wanted to let you know I'm keeping my fingers and everything else very tightly crossed for you Thanks

Thanks Crown. My DH says not to be negative but l just can't help thinking it could go wrong again.

I am really sorry to hear this Hmm.
I'm not sure what the protocol is- would they consider giving you progesterone ?

PossumPoo · 20/02/2015 06:36

Blessed I've spoken to the GP and he didn't mention it either. It's only since coming home and looking that I've seen, I wonder why no one has mentioned it to me but Dr Google makes it seem like it's something to be worried about.

The comment about being pregnant today is quite normal, a scan is just a snapshot of what is happening then and there and doesn't mean if all is well that it will stay that way.

Re corpus luteum I would personally take it as simply that they haven't seen it, not that there's a problem if that makes sense, if there was a big problem then I would have thought they would tell you. Have they offered you another scan?

PossumPoo · 20/02/2015 08:03

No mention of another scan.

When I had my early scan when I had my MC, my notes said 'Left ovary not seen'.... Now I am pretty sure I have a left ovary... they just couldn't find/see it. My advice would be to try and not worry until you have to. I take it measurements and hb were all fine?

gaahhnonicknamesleft · 20/02/2015 08:31

I think they tend to be quite blunt, so the fact it wasn't mentioned means it isn't a particular issue.

The comment on pregnant today will be standard as still early in pregnancy. Good luck.

Heartbeat was 165 and measurements were all good.

Ok thanks all, I'll try to stop worrying Smile

Hi. I'm wondering how you're pregnancy turned out if you don't mind me asking. I'm I. The same situation (@ 7.5 wks). I've heard it's important to take progesterone until 12 wks when the placenta is formed because the lack of corpus lutum means your own body isn't adequately preparing a thick uteral lining for the fetus to stay attached to.

Doesnt sound like you need to worry, especially if hb nd measurements are on track.
Corpus Luteum is just the spot where the egg popped out from.
I've never had a sonographer mention it to me in any of my pregnancy scans (and I've had many due to history).
Only time it's been mentioned was when I had an internal scan as part of the investigation into recurrent miscarriage, nd I wasn't pregnant at that point.
