I'm 37 weeks today, since Weds night had bad period pain and irregular but painful BH . Paracetamol is helping a bit with warm baths but struggling to move much and tired from the pain. Baby is also wriggling like crazy- maybe cos I don't normally get many BH. Midwives just said 'normal for this stage' when I rang yesterday am, didn't say if they thought labour was close, or if it would all go away in a few days. Just wondering how normal it I to be in this much pain and not in labour? Am a bit worried as had to call in sick yesterday but really need to go back in next week for my final week, but can't get up and about atm.

Well if the pain is bad enough to stop you from moving I'd say there is a chance that you are in labour. With my second DS I had contractions nightly for a week before I went into full blown established labour. As my body had been preparing for a whole week his labour was very short.

Difficult to confirm over the internet so can you at least make an appointment with your mw for a check up?

Last time I had a long early labour. It could be that's what this is. In my case ds was back to back which made it painful. I was in and out of the antenatal ward for a good few days before ds put in his appearance. They did give me diamorphine so I could sleep at one point.

My advice would be that if you're not coping with the pain you need to ask your mw to check you out. See if you can find out baby's position, so if they're back to back you can focus on doing something to help them move to the right place, which may ease the pain. Especially if you're not sleeping / resting well because of the pain tell your mw. Don't let them fob you off.
