I am 7 weeks 2 days pregnant and have my first early scan tomorrow for a heartbeat (or beats they put two back!).

I have generally been feeling pregnant, cramps, very tired, boobs have got bigger and hurt plus a little bit of nausea when I wake and constant trips to the toilet but even with all these symptoms I am still worried about the scan tomorrow that there won't be anything there or no heartbeat.

Can anyone give me some guidance on what to expect at the scan tomorrow please (plus some sucess stories!) thanks x

Great news with your test results Fab big relief isn't it.

I got on well yesterday with my 16 week appointment with the midwife and you were right Whittle I did get to hear the heartbeat which was wonderful. Within the right range and nice and strong so am cloud 9 today!

Well I had my consultant appointment was running over an hour late and then was only in there 5 mins! Anyway all is fine, I asked about my placenta and he said its low lying but not completely covering so hopefully will move. He also said I would have extra growth scans at 28 and 34 as its was icsi just to keep an eye and that they may induce at 40 weeks if baby hasn't made an appearance but that's not set in stone. So all in all just like a mw appointment just with more info!
Great news on your results fab you must be so relieved and can start relaxing a bit now. I'm so pleased you got to hear the heartbeat angora it's amazing isnt it. Hope every one else is doing well

gcerron · 24/04/2015 11:05

Great news fab we are quite in the same situation. I haven't had the HT yet, I postponed it to next Friday so they can do some other tests in my week 16,1 plus it will be good opportunity to see my baby once more. But I am happy with the result of my NT so far.

After read your posts about dying our hair I think I will do it with a natural product, I am beginning my week 15 today so it is good time for dying the grey hair that I am managing to hide in someway!!

whittle it's good that they are offering more scans, that means that they will assess you closer, finger cross and your placenta will move accordingly.

Ruby great that you have your positive results now!! congratulations and I am sure that will help with your bp as well, how are you feeling?

Lets continue enjoying our pregnancy and feeling our bumps growing in my case slow but it is getting there I think!!

RubySlippers77 · 26/04/2015 09:38

Ahhhh how lovely to hear the heartbeat at your 16 week appointment anroga! No idea whether I get a 16 week appointment - the midwife said not till 20 weeks, the ANC said I would - typical NHS efficiency, eh?! Either way, I'm going to pay for a private scan at around that time; we have a My Ultra Baby about 20 minutes' drive away and I thought it's only £65, I'd like to do that. We're away on holiday next week but I'll book it when I return.

No decision yet on the hair, maybe I should invest in some hats?! Had a look on Groupon and a salon nearby is doing cut & highlights for £29, I'll probably give that a go as my hair needs a cut anyway.

Yesterday I took all the clothes out of my wardrobe that don't fit any more (lots), packed them away to go in the loft and left the ones which do fit/ are maternity wear (considerably less). Sob! OH & I also went to an NCT sale which was great - he left much enlightened about how useful some products are! - we spent around £150 but we got loads, bouncy chair, cot blankets, books, baby sling, nappy bin etc etc. We didn't get any clothes as they didn't have any newborn but apart from that, definitely worth a visit.

BP is improving slowly thank you gcerron, I have to go to the nearby 'big' hospital on Monday morning to have it checked before our hols, then they've brought my next ANC appointment forward from May 14th to the 7th to keep an eye on it. I don't mind that, extra reassurance is fine Smile

Apart from that, I'm feeling less sick in general - the occasional wave of nausea but much better in that respect - but still prone to blubbing at many things. Just watched the Masterchef final and cried over that, will no doubt be sobbing at the London Marathon coverage as it gets me every year anyway!

gcerron · 28/04/2015 09:27

Hahaha yes Ruby crying watching TV programmes seems familiar to me, I was so excited watching the final of Masterchef but I cried with the final of Poldark!!
I can't believe that you bought many things for £150, we haven't bought anything yet but my DH friend gave us some presents in advance!! However after the banks holiday in May we must at least think in the budget for the nursery room plus other needs.
I want to see my baby again as well, we will do this Friday that I have some private tests as well, then I have to wait until June in my 21 week scan , after that I don't know anything yet but I will ask at my mw appointment next Tuesday!!
I hope everybody else is doing fine, let us know how are you doing, your new feelings, symptoms and /or thoughts ;) xxxxx

whittlefish · 28/04/2015 17:20

Well today I feel huge feels like the last few days my bump has really grown it's made as wasn't really showing until a few weeks ago now there is no denying it. Can I ask, and you might not even have thought about it yet, are you ladies planning on having there baby sleep in the room with you for the first 6 months like everyone says you should? We don't really have anyway suitable for a Moses basket and def no room for a cot so was going to put her in her own room from there start potentially or at least quite soon after. Does that make me a bad person?

NoCupcakesOrCocktails · 29/04/2015 04:20

Hi everyone,

Just checking in to see how you are all getting on. So glad to see everyone's scans and appointments have gone well. Fab I'm so chuffed all was well at 12 weeks Smile roll on 20 weeks!

I've been midwife led all the way. I think it depends on what area you are in as I know a lot of areas get you to see a consultant at least once if you've had IVF.

I'm 33 weeks this week and am starting Mat leave at the end of the week (I've got a lot of holiday to take first) I still can't believe this is happening in a way. Baby is certainly making his presence known these days by booting me in the ribs or bladder!

NoCupcakesOrCocktails · 29/04/2015 04:25

Whittle the current advise is to keep baby in your room for 6 months as they say it reduces the risk of SIDS. It's meant to help baby regulate their breathing by being close to you and you are also meant to subconsciously respond to any problems with baby while asleep if they are nearby. Have you not got room to have them in with you? I think that's why a lot of people use Moses baskets and co sleeper cots like bed nests etc as they can't fit cots in their bedrooms. At the end of the day if you can't fit baby in then you just can't! I guess in that case you might want to invest in a more fancy baby monitor to help you keep an eye on them.

Luckily we have just got enough room for a Moses basket but if baby outgrows that before 6 months he will have to move in his own room then.

anroga · 29/04/2015 11:32

Hi girls

Glad to see everyone is doing ok, its all getting quite exciting now isn't it.

I saw my gp yesterday and she checked my blood pressure again, spoke to her about these headaches I keep getting which are down to the hormones and should go after 20 weeks and got to hear the babies heartbeat again! So it is all or nothing in my area by the looks of it!

I am now 17+3 so not long until my 20 week scan on the 18/5.

I am going to go for the moses basket idea Whittle and Nocup as a couple of friends/sister-in-law have recommended it as it is a godsend with the breast feeding if I do go down that route and just alot easier during the night. We haven't room for a cot in our room but the box room will be the nursery so after a while I will go from the moses to the cot in his or hers own room. Intersted to read your comments Nocup about it being advised for the first 6 months.

I suppose at the end of the day its down to what works for you.

My bump is coming along nicely in fact to nicely as my Mum and my best mate (who has three girls) have both said I look more than 4 months more like 5! Ha ha! I don't care though I love it! :) :) :)

Wow cupcake not long to go for you now bet you can't wait.

angora I got awful headaches which did seem to improve as time went on, I only seem to get them now if I'm over hungry so fingers crossed it's the same thing for you. X

gcerron · 30/04/2015 16:28

Hi whittle I have a couple of articles regarding your concern, however as the girls said, we want to do the best under our facilities and considering what is more suitable for each of us. What is clear is that we can not sleep with the baby in our bed, but now a days we have a better technology so you can invest in a baby monitor, I will do that when I move the baby to the nursery.

Wow 33 weeks nocup that is amazing!! How was your experience so far? It seems that everything went smoothly, I'm sometimes concern about the diabetes, pre-clampsia, low placenta and I don't know what else!! I hope my pregnancy goes smoothly as well, in general fingers crossed for everybody!!

St4rfish · 30/04/2015 18:23

Hi everyone. I feel like I am gate crashing your gang as you are all so much further along, but wanted to ask your advice as you all seem to know a lot.

I am almost 7 weeks pregnant after IVF. First scan is on Tuesday. I had a MMC at 12 weeks two years ago so obviously terrified this will have the same outcome. I am convinced there will be nothing there when I go for this scan, I have had a little pale yellow discharge every day for almost two weeks which I'm sure can't be good. And I have minimal symptoms - no sickness or extreme tiredness yet. How does this compare to your early symptoms, should I prepare for the worst?

whittlefish · 30/04/2015 20:00

Hi st4rfish I def don't think you should start worrying yet. I had hardly any symptoms in the first few weeks in fact didn't start to notice much until after I had my 7 week scan even then didn't really kick in till about 10 weeks when I started feeling sick. I wouldn't be too worried about the discharge either unless you start getting any blood. I have had lots of discharge all the way so far and I'm nearly 25 weeks think it's part of the course. Fingers crossed all goes well for you on tuesday

St4rfish · 01/05/2015 00:53

Thanks so much for your reply whittlefish

anroga · 01/05/2015 10:59

Hi St4rfish

Congratulations on your IVF pregnancy and glad you have joined our group, us IVF girls need to stick together!

As Whittle has said I do not think you have anything to worry about. I was just the same as you I was convinced that the pregnancy test (all seven of them!) was wrong and that when I went for the first scan there would be nothing there but there was, a little blob and a heartbeat, it will be the same for you on Tuesday, you have to try and keep positive. You have had no bad cramping, no blood so everything is fine.

Don't worry though I was the same about the 10 week scan and then even my 14 week scan but that is when it really hits home and I was like I have to try and chill out, you are pregnant, you do have a baby in there, it is doing what it should all is well!

Hope everyone is well and enjoying the bank holiday weekend!

OH and I had a lovely holiday, it was my birthday whilst we were away. Never thought I'd be turning 38 and be 14 weeks pregnant but there you go, life is full of surprises! Thankfully the NT results came back fine, one twin has a 1:6500 chance of an issue and the other has 1:8000 which was a big relief Grin just waiting for the date for my 20 week scan now.

anroga and St4rfish I was exactly the same, had a 6 week scan (after IVF) to find out if it was twins. By that point I had no symptoms but the sickness hit me after that! Not everyone has any symptoms (lucky people!) but whilst I didn't, I did a pregnancy test every day just to reassure me, you can get them v cheaply from Amazon if that helps.

whittle, we'll probably have the babies in our room until they are six months or so, not because we have a big bedroom - we definitely don't! - but because we have nowhere else to put them till the lodger leaves Hmm that's a bone of contention between myself and OH, who has no idea whatsoever how much space babies and their clutter take up…..

And yes gcerron, I was a sobbing wreck at Poldark, and again when reading a story today on the RSPCA website about some abandoned kittens!!

whittlefish · 04/05/2015 07:52

Thanks ladies and thanks angora for the articles I'm thinking we might see if we can squeeze her into our room for a little while having thought about it and just see how we go. Speaking of crying had a bit of a breakdown yesterday over being hungry of all things, was hungry but didn't want to eat anything and just started crying! Wtf!! DH was very good about it and just let me get it all out and gave me hugs but I thought my emotions should be a bit more stable by now how wrong was I haha.
ruby that's great news about your tests you must be so relieved and happy another weight off your mind. When I saw my midwife on Thursday she said that there was some glucose in my urine but she wasn't concerned as have my GTT test in a few weeks anyway, little bit paranoid now I'll have a high result. If I do that's fine as can beam aged with diet etc but hope not as already can't eat gluten and find it hard to stay full so hope I don't have to start avoiding carbs too Smile

Gillster · 04/05/2015 15:01

Hey ladies, could I join this little group? I've been reading back on the thread after getting a BFP last week.

A little history - been TTC just over 3 years. Had IVF in Feb 2014 and got 6 embies which had to be frozen on day 1 due to the presence of a polyp. Spent the next 14 months cycling between hysteroscopies (4) and trying to do a FET (4). Had two 2 day embies put back on 16 April and got a BFP on 28 April so by my reckoning I must be about 5 weeks? I am also 41 (sob).

Have been quite crampy on and off for the last couple of weeks but things seemed to have calmed down and the only pregnant symptom I seem to have is very full boobs. Feel quite comforted to read that many of you have had the same. Just looking for somewhere to share all the worries with over the next few months.

Blackandwhitecat3 · 04/05/2015 17:07

Hello ladies you have a wonderful thread here, do you mind if I join?

TTC 17 months we decided to go for IVF because of age (39). I'm 9dp5dt we put two back and had nothing to freeze. I got a BFP yesterday Grin!!!! And just feel so so lucky, but also bricking it and praying that Kitten sticks.

It' say first ever BFP. I'm so happy and determined to enjoy the moment even if we get unlucky. My official TD is Weds, I have had waves of (copable) nausea for the last two days, have been ever so tired and boobs are sore. Had some cramps since last night which I guess is things moving around/enlarging.

Currently trying to remember how to focus on anything, and stopping my DM from getting her knitting needles out until somewhere around the 8-12 weeks stage.

Whittle I'm wheat intolerant and have to eat a low GI diet or my blood sugar goes all over the place. Happy to share tips if you want.

Gillster · 04/05/2015 17:41

Congrats B&WC! It's all a bit mental isn't it? It's almost a week since my BFP and it still hasn't fully sunk in. I actually did another test this afternoon and got a nice strong line which was reassuring. I ended up testing at work, 12 hours before my OTD as I'd just bought the tests that day and they were burning a hole in my bag. Took quite a while to compose myself in order to drive home and my next day at work wasn't particularly productive. We told our immediate family this weekend as we'd want them to know if things didn't work out for us. As you'd expect they were all thrilled.

So pleased that there's something in a similar situation and at practically the same stage Smile

Gillster · 04/05/2015 17:43

My scan isn't until 1st June - don't know how I'm going to wait that long! Seriously considering getting a private scan next week to see if it will put my mind at rest.

whittlefish · 04/05/2015 18:12

Hi gillster and blackandwhite welcome on board and congratulations both on your BFPs. I was in total shock when I got mine as first round of icsi and me and DH had convinced ourselves was never going to work first time. I don't think I really starting believing it until the 12 week scan. I still get nervous every time I have one, but at least I can feel her moving now so makes its real.
blackandwhite let me know how you get on with staying full as I really struggled int the first few weeks to find stuff wheat free that would keep me full and not feel sick haha. Welcome any tips, hopefully glucose test will come back ok and won't need to worry fingers crossed

Blackandwhitecat3 · 04/05/2015 19:25

Thanks everyone.

whittle oats are low GI so generally good to keep you fuller longer. Protein is also good - it takes a long time to digest so there's a slow release of energy. Rice is really bad - it gets digested really quickly, that said, it' v easy to digest so good for a struggling tummy. Also good are pulses, I've grown to low puy lentils for example, however there's a strong downside to all pulses!

My other tip is to snack regularly and healthily. I always have several packs of nairns oat biscuits squirrelled away, nuts are good too. Yoghurt mid-morning helps me. I've gone back to full fat dairy and I think that helps too - fat is slower to digest than sugar and ff yoghurts have less sugar in them. Sugar is generally bad news for me, unless it's part of a meal or cake. Speaking of cake, Honeybuns are the biz!

Filling up on veggies helps too. Most GF products like bread or pizza don't work for me, they are quite sweet and often contain a lot of potato starch (so sweet as well). GF pasta has got tons better though, I find the best ones have corn/maize flour in them. Apart from pasta, don't just try to substitute GF products into a normal gluten diet, have more veggies/pulses instead.

Good luck!

St4rfish · 04/05/2015 19:45

Thanks anroga for your welcome and reassurance. I am still preparing myself for the worst tomorrow! After my MMC I know that even positive pregnancy tests and no bleeding aren't necessarily a guarantee that everything is ok unfortunately. Don't know how I am going to sleep tonight!
Hi Gillster and B&WC, congrats on your BFPs and hope you can stay positive and on top of the nerves. The wait for a first scan is like an eternity! We've had to wait 3 weeks from blood test to scan tomorrow and it's felt like 30...

Blackandwhitecat3 · 05/05/2015 20:55

How did your scan go Starfish? Hoping all is well.

Back to work today - couldn't concentrate on anything and had a massive grin on my face Grin.

Nausea and faint lines on POAS both getting stronger - hurrah! OTD tomorrow so will ring the clinic after.
