I am 7 weeks 2 days pregnant and have my first early scan tomorrow for a heartbeat (or beats they put two back!).

I have generally been feeling pregnant, cramps, very tired, boobs have got bigger and hurt plus a little bit of nausea when I wake and constant trips to the toilet but even with all these symptoms I am still worried about the scan tomorrow that there won't be anything there or no heartbeat.

Can anyone give me some guidance on what to expect at the scan tomorrow please (plus some sucess stories!) thanks x

I had my booking in appt today. So many questions but have my white folder and 12 week scan booked in for May 5th maybe after the scan I can start to relax a little. I'm classed as high risk as pregnancy from ivf and I also have a heart murmur so will likely have a few more scans in the later stages. Am off work now until Sunday evening and am so looking forward to some good sleep.

Happy Easter everyone.

What a week ladies! I haven't had a chance to read back at what's been going on yet but will do later when I get a minute! As for me, I went to the doctors on Monday for an 'emergency appt' and was told no problem with my glucose levels at all, my blood sugars weren't high and he didn't know why the nurse had thought they were! I'd been sooo very upset, now I'm sooo very annoyed! He said the levels she reported weren't a problem especially if I'd just eaten, which I'd queries with her at the time but she said they were so high that eating wouldn't have made a difference! So then Tuesday I had my property midwife appt, she came out the house, all went really well except she said if I had any bleeding to report it, so I mentioned I'd had some brown spotting that morning but thought maybe the progesterone is irritating me now given I've been on it so long... She said it was probably something like that, but just to be sure she'd book me in for a early scan (can't hurt to have an extra for free!). I am 11 weeks now and haven't had the date for my 12 week scan yet so an extra was quote appealing, then she said, it's just in case, but obviously if you're miscarrying you'll want to know asap. She was lovely about it and was clear it was a precaution only, and mostly because of the ivf, the extra drugs and what we'd gone through to get here, but it's that word isn't it... Miscarriage. I was quite calm and all day said I wasn't getting stressed after the diabetes debacle and said 99% I knew everything was OK, but later just burst into tears. Anyway, got a scan for yesterday and all is well, baby is very healthy, wriggling around, looking like a baby and reaching out, stretching etc, absolute relief and what an amazing experience seeing our miracle moving about. Much much better than the 7 week scan! Now can't for the 12 week scan :) I am so relieved my week of being scared for out baby ten times more than normal is over! sorry that's all about me, now I'm off back to read all of your updates!

Fabuluce · 03/04/2015 08:03

Congratulations Verkey Grin but I hope you complained about that nurse - that's ridiculous that she should think it was ok to stress someone out like that let alone a pregnant woman, and get away with it. I really don't understand what goes through people's minds sometimes. An the midwife should know better too - you shouldn't even mention the M word unless there is a decent reason for it. My understanding is that brown spotting is pretty normal but even if she was concerned all she needed to say was we'll get you a scan just to be on the safe side. However, after all that it's all looking good so yay! And now to relax a little Smile

gcerron · 03/04/2015 08:08

Thank you ruby!! I am still in the moon!!
I know what you mean regarding your DH, he asked me for a clear explanation, because even though we can afford it at the moment, it's a significant amount for us . After disscuss we agreed to carry on with the HT.
Are you having your first scan at NHS on week 13???? Or at week 12 and another at 13?? My gp also considered me as high risk due to my age and the Ivf, he said that it would make the process at NHS quicker, which at the end is happening!!
Good luck on 14th, keep us updated!! I have a small bump, but I don't remember if I had a belly like this before ? Or it's product of my baby!! But I am still scared to reveal my pregnancy so I won't tell anybody at work until I can't hide it anymore.
All the best on your 12 weeks scan mrswish!!

whittlefish · 03/04/2015 08:41

Oh verkey it's sounds like such an emotional rollacoaster. I can't believe that the nurse was so completely wrong and worried you like that I would definitely complain if you can she was very unprofessional even if she did have concerns but on top or that she didn't she to know what she was talking about anyway. I'm really pleased everything is going well though and hopefully the scan can put you mind a rest for a little while.

How many weeks are you now gcerron could be the start of a baby bump. I know what you mean about being scared to tell people your are pregnant. Even after our 12 week scan when we were safe to tell people I was still so scared too, seems silly doesn't it. You just have to tell people when you are ready.
Hope everyone else is doing well and has some nice relaxing plans for the weekend

Hi. I had a miscarriage at 20 weeks in January 12th and has been bleeding since on and off due mostly to leftover tissues in my uterus as they discharged me without d&c but got the all clear on 6 March. I had 3 pregnancy tests after 5 weeks from my bleeding nd all coming with fainted line. My Dr said it means positive but I'm not sure as h didn't do any pregnancy test for m. H just told me to wait for 3 weeks nd go take another test nd go for a scan to see if there is any heart beat. Anyone experienced positive test with fainted line? Do u guys think am pregnant or its just my hcg level still in my urine that's why I got fainted line?? Help pump pls

gcerron · 03/04/2015 20:12

whittle today I'm beginning my week 12, yes it's scary to tell people even with my family I just can't open my mouth to talk about pregnancy!! They don't live in the UK that is why they don't know anything. The first time I got pregnant I told my parents and then I miscarried so that was a shock for me that's why my fear to talk about it.
Sorry for you Jackson but I am afraid I can't tell you anything useful!! I hope you can find valid answers soon from the doctor!! All the best.

RubySlippers77 · 06/04/2015 13:12

Great news for you Verkey - that must be lovely to have seen the baby again! It's part of the reason I wanted the Harmony test, haven't had a scan since 6 weeks, and still have another week to wait Hmm I have my NHS NT scan at 12 weeks, which I think is standard, for my area at least.

I'm still ummm'ing and ahhh'ing about whether to tell people as well, at least after 12 weeks I'll feel better about it….. OH has no such reservations and has already told the world and his dog!! A few people know at work but TBH I'd rather keep quiet till after the NT results, if it's not good news then of course we may have difficult decisions to make.

I'm sorry I don't have any advice for you either Jackson but it's not a situation I've been in - have you tried posting on the miscarriage boards as someone there may be more knowledgeable? Either way I hope your doctor is more helpful when you return.

RubySlippers77 · 06/04/2015 13:13

And Happy Easter everyone Easter Grin

gcerron · 06/04/2015 21:50

Hahaha yes I must point it out that my lovely DH couldn't resist anymore and spread the news across his job after our last scan!!! he justified it saying that he was so excited!! Smile

whittlefish · 07/04/2015 07:52

Oh bless him gcerron that's really sweet of him. I think the key thing about telling people is would you mind them knowing if you miscarried. If the answer is no then I think you are good to tell them. We told family and close friends at 12 weeks and some people at work and then only told the rest of the world- ah lovely facebook, this weekend. Even then felt worried I'd jinx it, how silly . Hope you are all doing ok and not suffering with symptoms too much still you should all be coming to the end of the worst of it soon?

Fabuluce · 07/04/2015 16:19

Had my 10 week scan and Harmony bloods take today and all is looking spot on - very exciting!! We saw it's little arms and legs wiggling about although the sonographer said it was a little lazy and had to give it a couple of pokes to wake it up! We've decided we're not interested in knowing the sex - are we alone in this? We honestly don't mind what we have, we just want a healthy one Smile And I hate all the gender bias (well actually I just really hate pink!!) so we'll be going for gender neutral colours in everything anyway. We were asked about 4 different times if we wanted to know the sex and looked at as if we were crazy!

So in 2 weeks time we have the Nuchal fold test and the blood results. Fingers crossed! Again!

gcerron · 08/04/2015 09:02

Yes whittle you are right when you feel ready I think you don't tell just to the closest people also to the entire world!! Hahaha. I think I am beginning to feel like I would like to share my new status Smile. Our weekend was so busy we moved house, today is my first day commuting to London, I have to think now when to change the hospital to be fair I am confident and happy with st George's hospital, but now we are an hour from it Hmm
Congratulations fab I know what you mean it's just amazing, good luck with the results!! I am sure it will be fine, I will have the ht this Friday but at 13 weeks, I want to confirm everything is ok after my busy weekend, I didn't carry any heavy stuff but I was enough busy packing.
Have a nice day girls!!! :)

anroga · 08/04/2015 12:18

Well as I suspected girls went for my nuchal scan and screening yesterday and I am too far along for the test even though my midwife reassured me I was within the time period.

I am going back on Friday for the quad test.

I really do not know what to do now. The results from the quad test are not as accurate as the nuchal scan and screening.

At the 20 week scan they do look for abnormalties and downs features.

So if my result is low risk I am tempted to just carry on until my 20 week scan and then will hopefully be reassured again that all is well.

If my result is high risk should I go for this Harmony test?

I am 38.

Its just one worry after another isn't it! On a good note the sonographer did say the baby looks fine and it just how it should be at 14+1, she did also say nothing does look abnormal behind the babies neck but he or she was tucked up in my womb so the image was not that clear compared to my 7 & 10 week scans.

whittlefish · 08/04/2015 17:45

Oh angora that's rubbish I can't believe they left it so late to book you in how annoying and extra worry you don't need. I can't advise about the harmony test as didn't have one but hopefully the quad test will put your mind a rest a bit

mrswishywashy · 08/04/2015 19:42

We've decided not to do the harmony and have nuchal scan on May 2nd however we are still deciding if we will have it done I'll be on the cusp of it maybe being too late. My wife and I would want to keep the baby whatever outcome but it does play on my mind. Just wish I knew now if baby was ok, counting down the days until 12 week scan.

anroga · 09/04/2015 09:21

It is rubbish Whittle is has sent me into worry overdrive just when I was starting to feel alot calmer about everything.

I think you Ruby and Verkey have or are lined up to have the Harmony Test, are you paying for this? If so approx how much plus is it true it is 99% accurate, would love any of your advise as just don't know what to do at the moment.

OP posts:
Fabuluce · 09/04/2015 09:40

Anroga how upsetting for you. Why did they leave it so late to book you in? There really is no excuse - they are absolutely supposed to book you in, in time. Have you complained at all? I've had my bloods done for the harmony and am having my scan in 1.5 weeks. It's apparently 99% accurate for Down's , 95% accurate for Edward's and 92% accurate for Patau's. But all the blood/scan tests are only possibilities of having these abnormalities. The only tests that will be able to definitively say whether you have them are the disgnostic tests of amniocentesis and CVS. And of course they come with a small risk of miscarriage. It's such a nightmare of choice decisions. I'm Confused at your midwife/hospital for not having booked you in for your scan in time. It's just so unfair.

anroga · 09/04/2015 10:28

Thanks Fab for your message, I now remember it was you having the Harmony test. I know they have been useless with both my booking in appointment and my nuchal scan and screening. I had to loose my temper last Wednesday so I could actually have my booking appointment. I have not complained as yet but I will do don't worry.

Thanks for the statistics they are good, very good and better than the NHS testing. I don't know about you but if I did come back high risk from the quad test I would not go on to have the amnio etc due to the risk of miscarriage.

Out of interest how much has the Harmony test cost you please and they just take your blood for it yes?

I am thinking the best thing for me to do is go for the quad test tomorrow see what the results come back like (hopefully by the end of next week) and then if it comes back high risk go for the Harmony test?

OP posts:
Fabuluce · 09/04/2015 12:26

Yes the reason why I'm doing the Harmony test is that their results are better than the standard combined Nuchal test that the NHS do and also that the NHS are recommending that women get it done if they can afford it. Apparently they are trialling in in certain areas of the NHS for potential use in the future (no use to us at the moment but good for the future). I've attached a link to the clinic I've used - apparently the head consultant was the guy who pioneered the test in the first place. The Harmony test is a blood test which is done in conjunction with a scan so I think you'd be best of calling a clinic and ask what your options are. But in the meantime definitely get the quad test done - you might as well. www.fetalmedicine.com/treatment-fees

anroga · 09/04/2015 15:56

Thanks Fab for the advice and the link that is great! I have already
e-mailed them to get some info so will keep you posted. Thanks again x

Good luck Anroga - I hope you get the answers you need.

RubySlippers77 · 11/04/2015 10:46

Really sorry to hear about the mix up with your tests anroga - that's such poor service and I hope you will put in a complaint to your health authority. I know the NHS do a very tough job and have a lot of pressure but it's just not acceptable to cause you more worry at what's a stressful time anyway.

Did you decide whether to go for the Harmony test as well as having the quad test? I couldn't persuade OH that it was worth spending the £££ before our 12 week scan but will ask the doctor (in front of him!) for their opinion when we have our scan on Tuesday.

Not great news from me, went to the antenatal clinic on Thursday and although the doctor was slightly confused as to why I was there early - apparently I wouldn't usually be seen till 13 weeks! - they picked up that my blood pressure is still too high, and have put me on medication. I have to go to the bigger hospital in our area today to get it checked and back to the antenatal clinic on Thursday. I did point out that we're in on Tuesday anyway for the scan but apparently that's not enough Sad

whittlefish · 11/04/2015 17:50

Oh ruby sorry to hear that , hopefully the medication will help and have you back down to normal in no time, must be stressful though with all these visits but sounds like you and your baby are in good hands.
So I have a question do you think it's too soon to start buying stuff, I have been putting it off but keep seeing lots of cute baby things and want to buy them but don't at the same time. Also I can't seem to bring myself to buy maternity clothes which I desperately need thinking I'm getting carried away with that too. Am I being mental?
