Thirsty

I am 7 weeks pregnant, possibly with twins. I have never been so thirsty in my life. Last night I drank at least a pint of water through the night (and went to the toilet 3 times). Since I woke I've drunk another pint but still feel so thirsty/have such a dry mouth. Anyone else experiencing this?

Me! I am so so thirsty all the time. I am 8 + 2 and have an early scan tomorrow.

What makes you think you might be expecting twins?

Me

Try some ice chips

I've now had a cup of tea, 2 pints of water and an actimel in just over an hour and feel like I've quenched it a bit! I had an early scan last week, 2 sacs but just one heartbeat. Going back Friday to see of we have another heartbeat...longest week ever!!

I'm also feeling the same. I was wondering if it is anything to do with the pregnancy vitamin I'm taking but it sounds like it's just another symptom.

SweetsForMySweet · 17/02/2015 08:57

Do you have a (family) history of diabetes? Thirst is one of the symptoms. I would mention it to your midwife to check for glucose in your urine and check your blood sugar levels.

GoooRooo · 17/02/2015 10:00

Interesting OMG because I'm sure that I've read that excessive thirst can be a sign of twins and I am slightly concerned that that might be the case for me. I would love twins, but it would push us to the edge financially I think!

leanne963 · 17/02/2015 10:02

Being thirsty was my first ever symptom. I am 26 weeks now and water doesn't quench my thirst only fizzy drinks of juice will, so weird lol!!

Bustherb · 17/02/2015 11:18

I was thirsty all the time in the first trimester - like you I was drinking pints and pints of water. I was sick a lot though so that could be why. Xx

ImperialBlether · 17/02/2015 11:19

I agree with the pp that you should have a test for gestational diabetes if you're excessively thirsty during pregnancy.

OMGBabyNo3 · 17/02/2015 11:35

Thanks all. GoooRooo-this was our third and a complete surprise now looking like it may be our 4 as well!!!
No history of diabetes and no problems in previous 2 pregnancies but will certainly mention at booking app next week.

Surprise third here too! Still ridiculously thirsty at 29w, waking up at night to raid the fridge for drinks, milk, actimel, anything! GTT result normal and not expecting twins!

Anerak · 17/02/2015 11:55

Also extremely thirsty at 30 weeks - is very coincidental that you'd write this today… with my first child I was also extremely thirsty but this is getting beyond a joke! I drank at least a litre of water through the night but my throat was so dry I could barely swallow and I have very dry, cracking lips… Would appreciate any advice

MissTwister · 17/02/2015 12:16

I was so thirsty early on (one baby) but I think it actually was dry mouth rather than true thirst. I drank pints of water at night and I'd wake up choking on dry throat. Its better now at 16 weeks!

Rebecca1608 · 17/02/2015 17:12

I don't know if being extra thirsty is a sign of twins.... But I've been extremely thirsty since early on in pregnancy, I'm almost 21 weeks... With identical twin girls lol.

GoooRooo · 17/02/2015 18:36

Oooohhh blimey Rebecca. I have a scan tomorrow so I'll report back whether I have one or two on board.

OMGBabyNo3 · 17/02/2015 21:52

Oooh GoooRooo make sure you do come and tell us!! Fingers crossed all goes well. Tongue stuck to ridiculously dry mouth again now tonight!

I'm back! Had the scan and only one baby so not the twin theory in my case! Seeing the midwife tomorrow though so will raise GD with her.

Sukie272 · 18/02/2015 23:11

Congrats on your scan! Smile
I'm 8.5 weeks and constantly thirsty for cold water or mango juice.

OMGBabyNo3 · 19/02/2015 07:45

Glad all is ok GoooRooo. Finally have my next scan tomorrow. It's been a loooonnggg week!

Good luck tomorrow! I had my booking in with the midwife this morning. I asked about the thirst and she dip tested my wee for sugars but it was fine so no sign of diabetes. She said it's just one of those things - your body is making lots of extra blood so you need lots of extra fluids.

rubyred84 · 19/02/2015 13:29

im 14+3 with twins and must drink over 10 pints of water a day - I feel like all I ever do is drink water and wee! I think its just a symptom that some have and some don't, but I am going to mention it at my next midwife app just to be safe!

Anerak · 19/02/2015 13:35

Ah so you crave the extra fluid because you need it to make more blood, very good to know :) congratulations on all the twin pregnancies ladies, what a blessing
