HAAALP xD
I had a precautionary scan today as my little munchkin (or apparently not) has had me admitted and monitored twice in three weeks for reduced movement.
Im 32 &6, but my notes are estimating that the baby is 5llb 8oz already and is, 24 inches long!
Is this normal or am i giving birth to a giant?
I thought he would still be under 5lb!

It is big, but estimates of foetal weight can be very wide of the mark.

How are you measuring?

YouAreMyRain · 16/02/2015 20:11

From everyone I have known, weights calculated at scans are very inaccurate. I would try not to worry too much.

DarylDixonsDarlin · 16/02/2015 20:14

My middle one measured 5lb 1 on a growth scan at 31wks...was born at 40+2 at 7lb 9oz, they are renowned for being wildly inaccurate for most people! 24 inches does seem very long though, I'm sure all mine were only about 19 inches when born Confused

Apparently im bang on target, everything is normal - i read his height wrong though, it says 63.2mm which i read as cm hahaha, but then it says he is just under the 90th centile?

Er yes, I took length with a pinch of salt Grin

Sorehead · 16/02/2015 20:58

My baby was estimated to be 6lb 10oz (96th centile I think) at 34 weeks. He was born 37+2 weighing 7lb 3oz so think the weight was slightly overestimated at my scan

Ridingthestorm · 16/02/2015 21:00

DS was 6lbs 4oz at 36 weeks and only put on 2oz in 3 weeks. Accurate for us. He really wasn't growing!
DD is currently 5lbs 4oz at 34 weeks. Going for a scan tomorrow to check her weight and fluid levels again.

ILiveOnABuildsite · 16/02/2015 22:00

As others have said, don't worry too much, my dd was estimated at nearly 11 lbs she was born 7lb13, she was nearly 22 inches though, she is still tall today.

dancestomyowntune · 16/02/2015 22:06

Dd3 was born at 30 weeks 12 days ago and weighed 2lb11oz, at her previous scan (two weeks before her birth) she was estimated to be 2lb14oz so either she lost weight in those two weeks (unlikely) or they were wrong at the scan.

Having said that they estimated my previous daughter to be 5lb and were bang on.

I wouldn't worry too much!

Mutley77 · 16/02/2015 22:32

Even if the scan estimate was correct this doesn't mean your baby would be ginormous!! General estimates are that baby puts on half a pound a week at the end, which takes you up to about 9lb at 40 weeks which is not outside the range of normal. My dd2 was born at 38 weeks weighing 8lb10 and wasn't considered unusual.
