PCOS and Clomid stories

Hello everyone, I'm feeling a bit down so wanted to start a thread!

I came off the pill one year ago after getting married and turning 30 and since then have had no period. I was diagnosed with PCOS, have lots of little follicles but they are not growing.

I've been on Metformin but so far no working, take them 3 times a day. I've been put on Clomid 50mg after taking Provera. Went to have a scan but it had not worked. I'm now taking provera again for 2 weeks and once have a period I will take 100mg clomid and then go back for another scan.

Has anyone had a similar experience? I've read a few threads with people explaining they have PCOS but I've not ovulated for over a year. Any success stories?

Thanks all!!

Yes! I came off the implant in dec 13 and knew we would have problems conceiving as I never had regular cycles. I went to doc who insisted that I waited a year.... I went back 9 months later having tracked temp and proved I had not ovulated. I also asked for a blood test as further evidence. Finally I was referred and after a scan was told I had a firm of pcos where the follicles weren't developing. In dec 14 I started clomid. We were extreme lucky as we caught first cycle. I am now 8+5 weeks pregnant. I was put on 100mg straight away after provera. Hopefully 100mg is the magical strength. Good luck to you!

I was about to be put on clomid as wasn't ovulating due to cysts. But I was lucky and seem to have started ovulating (having not ovulated for possibly more than a year) and got pregnant all in November (big surprise) about 9 months after we started TTC (having got married in March) and 2 months after my 30th birthday.

I know I was incredibly lucky but from September (when I had a 9cm cyst between my overies (sorry TMI) and was definitely not ovulating) I was also doing a very low-carb diet, totally cut out everything with fake sugar as well (which I think really helped) and was on Acerbose as well as Metformin for the first time. Somehow I lost about 3/4 of a stone and started ovulating again. Now 12+4!

Are you doing any of the diet stuff? I guess I'll never know what impact the diet had, but I think it probably helped quite a bit as I'd been on metformin for years and nothing happened!

Good luck! xxx

Thanks so much for replying!

Fuzzy duck - huge congrats, I'm glad to hear 100mg worked for you. Fingers crossed it works for me when I start in a few weeks. It's frustrating to have to start again with Provera but hopefully will be worth it!! Can I ask how long after the last Clomid tablet did it take you to ovulate?

Lorelai - my diet is okay, I exercise and am size 12. I've started to exercise more as I've heard it's good for pcos. I've never heard of Abercosr, I'll research that now.

I do know it will happen, but it's hard to cope with. Hopefully 100mg will work - I'll let you know xx

My gynae told me that acerbose coats your stomach and somehow stops you digesting carbs so fast... She said that she has had some really good responses to it from women who haven't responded that well to metformin.
I'm a size 12 but not so hot on the exercise front, so had to be really controlled about not eating carbs! I do think losing weight helped me get pregnant.

I'm so sorry that your having such a hard time with it. I found out I had pcos and endometriosis when I was 22 and really felt like it was hanging over my head as I always knew I wanted to have kids. But hearing stories about women with those conditions who got pregnant always cheered me up and now I feel so (totally undeservedly!) lucky. Of course it will happen for you, but the waiting is so hard. Fingers crossed for 100mg!

I have PCOS and needed Clomid to conceive DC1. I didn't ovulate at all without it. It took 8 cycles of Clomid to get pregnant. We'd been TTC 2 1/2 years. I did also follow a low GI diet. It helped me feel like I was actually doing something.

I fell pregnant naturally and very quickly with DC2......bit of a shock!

Flowers for anyone struggling to conceive. It's a very hard time. Fingers crossed for you.

I was the same as you no period in 12 months. I was given norethisterone to start a bleed and given 50mg clomid to take. I did 3 cycles of clomid which didnt work but it did give me a few natural periods without medication and i fell pregnant before i started more clomid. Currently watching crap TV with my 12 day old baby boy. Stay positive and maybe try temping to see when your ovulating. I found i ovulated a little later than i expected too. Clomid at night rather than the morning stopped any side effects for me.

Helen1828 thank you! I think I ovulated around day 14 - first time in my life I have been 'textbook' with regards to ttc!!

On the whole I have heard clomid is massively successful if you aren't ovulating in the first place. I was sceptical but I am about everything and should just learn that the professionals probably know what they are doing :)

Best of luck to you!
