Finding out the sex at 12 week scan- a question

I'm due my 12 week scan a week Tuesday when I will be nearly 13 weeks.

I have a friend who was told a few months ago the sex of her baby at her 12 week scan, and also a colleague who was also told the sex of her child recently at her 12 week scan. Both are expecting boys, confirmed by their subsequent 20 week scans.

My question is, has anyone been told at their 12 week scan that they are expecting a girl? My theory is that I'd be more likely to find out the sex at my 12 week scan if it is a boy, as the relevant genitalia is more obvious, iyswim. I will be happy either way as long as the baby is healthy, I have been through two miscarriages in the last 12 months, but I'm just so impatient to know!

With twins, my first scan was at 17 weeks and they did tell me, but it was the consultant who told me. Not sure if the ante-natal radiographer was qualified to do so (she told me I was having triplets!). In our hospital, the 20 week scan is done in the ultrasound department (as opposed to antenatal) and is better equipment/ more experienced radiographers. I would guess they won't want to tell you so early in case they get it wrong.

They told me it was 'very clear' at my 12 week scan but we didn't want to know! It could have been a penis but I thought maybe ovaries could be seen too. I was at the FMC so they did a very detailed scan xx

Yes, I was told we were expecting a girl, and they were wrong.

I got told I am having a girl - the consultant was 60-70% sure so we shall see at the 22 week scan in a couple of weeks. They muttered under their breath with my DS that he was a boy and didn't think we'd hear them, we did!

With odds like that Loudarts, I'd be better off guessing!

I got told at my 12 week scan (14 weeks) 75% boy - he even showed me why he thought boy. This has now been confirmed xx

i had a cvs at st georges at 12 weeks and they told me that i was expecting a boy from the scan but they could only be 40% sure.
i got my cvs result the following week and found out we are having a girl

I had a 12 week scan at St George's. We were asked if we wanted to know the sex, as they were 90% confident. We assumed it had to be a boy, so agreed to let them tell us. We were told it was a girl. We weren't convinced so didn't go to town on girlie clothes. They were right though :)

We were told the sex of both twins at 12 weeks (they're different) and that it was 75% accurate. Confirmed at 20 and 24 week scans that they were right. As far as I know the genitals haven't actually developed at 12 weeks it is based on the nub theory and is more down to the experience of your sonographer as to whether they know what they're looking for at that stage. I didn't believe it was true until the 24 week scan when both were head down/bums in the air and it was VERY clear that they were different!! Still not buying anything one way or the other though as we haven't told anybody and so I'm trying to keep up the pretence of buying non specific clothing.

Not everywhere will even tell you at the 12 week scan though so don't count on deinitely even getting the option of finding out
