Consultant recommends weight loss

Hi
Had my first appointment with the hospital consultant last week. He was absolutely lovely, but has recommended that I try to lose some weight through my pregnancy.
Has anybody else had this? And if so, how did you do?
I was just over 17 stone when I found out I was pregnant, and have lost about half a stone since then through feeling and being sick. I'm now about 13 and a half weeks.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

You will definitely need some advice on this so I would say book an appointment with the midwife (if the consultant has not given you any guidance on how to loose the weight.)

bbpants I am 8 weeks pregnant and my consultant thinks that I should try not to put on too much weight (ie lose a bit of weight underlying). and I am about 12 stone (but only 5 4)

I know Slimming World is OK when you are PG.

FWIW I was a size 20 when I conceived DS and was an 18 afterwards! Not drinking helped a lot. Also just tried to eat healthy stuff. Lots of fruit as snacks and lots and lots and lots of iced water (which was my craving!).

bbpants-No advice really but I was about the same weight last year when I had ds,and was actually told not to lose weight but just to be careful with what I ate.I put on about 20lbs in total, which I thought was pretty good.
I then went on a diet in Feb and lost nearly 4 stone and now I'm pg again(14 weeks)and the weight is creeping up-I have already put on about a stone.
Obviously I don't want to put on too much weight but at the same time,I'm really not that bothered,as I know I'll lose it again after I've had the baby.
I know every pregnancy is different but I also had absolutely no complications with my first and really couldn't have felt better.
Best of luck.x

Thanks everybody.
I think part of the problem is that I have a tendency towards highish blood pressure, and I know from previous experience that losing weight brings my blood pressure down.
I lost the half stone quite quick when I had a really bad couple of weeks, and I am surprised that I have managed to maintain that loss for the last few weeks, especially when I seemed to have developed a taste for big bags of Revels!
I was thinking that the body is working so hard, that maybe the metabolism is a bit more active?

bbpants - I was 16 stone when I got pg with DS1 - at the end of the pg I was 15st 10lb so 2 weeks after giving birth I was 14 stones - I didnt diet but was trying not to eat too much unhealthy stuff. I put it down to a higher metabolism during pg and slight decrease in appetite - maybe the same will happen to you! DS was 8lb 1oz 4 days early btw. The same happened with DS2 as well.

bbpants - I did this!
I was 96kg at 6 months. My next weigh in was the day before baby was born, 9+2 weeks, I was 94 kg!!

I basically switched my life from sitting in an office all day, and eating pies for lunch , to being a SAHM to 3 small children, in an old house with lots of stairs and a wood stove (lots of chopping wood and carrying it indoors). I ate what I wanted, but healthy stuff like soups. I mostly snacked on lebkucken, that's chocolate gingerbread.
