Slow Heart rate advice please.

Hi,

Just wondered if anyone had a similar experience. I had an early scan last Tuesday and all was fine size, hb etc. on Saturday I start to have some brown spotting. Had another scan today and thought the baby would have died but it was there heart still beating. It measure 7 weeks 3 days so still good. At the end the mid wife mentioned the hb was a bit slow. Not sure what it was but now I'm panicking, googling etc. wish I'd asked!! Have to go back next thurs. Can't cope not knowing. Any advice??

Sorry to hear you've had a scare. Could you ring the EPU where you had the scan and see if you could speak to the MW, or leave a message for her? Better than waiting until next week and might give you some reassurance. She may just have meant the slower end of normal and I'm sure she'd have discussed in more depth if it was a red flag. Thinking of you and hoping you get the reassurance you're after.

Thank you for your reply. Maybe give her a phone tomorrow. Have a funny feeling this pregnancy is going to be stressful. Keep on thinking I can relax after scan but it doesn't seem to happen. As far as I'm aware she didn't time the heartbeat just mentioned it was slow. Trying to be positive. FX.

It's a shame the professionals sometimes forget that these things aren't routine for us like they are for them and that their obscure or throwaway comments can be really worrying and unclear! Did you have any follow up with a doctor after the scan?

No, I was in the EPU I have to go back next Thursday. Really thought I'd get an answer either way. But still in limbo. Think I might speak to my GP tomorrow. She didn't check the rate just commented on it. Not sure if it was important. x
