41 weeks tomorrow and need some advice

Hello all,

Hoping some experienced mums can give me some advice. Basically, this is my first pregnancy, all has been straightforward and fine, except the baby is now refusing to make an appearance!

I had an appointment with a doc at the hospital today, who basically bulldozed me into booking in for an induction this coming Monday, when I'll be 41+4. I really wanted to avoid being induced and especially the way she painted it: "you may end up on a drip, in which case you'll be on a bed, on your back giving birth". And then started spouting about the high rates of still births in late babies.

I know that I'm probably being naive by hoping for a nice birth centre experience, and that my baby's health is the most important thing, but I feel sad and disappointed and hoping someone, anyone, has some advice to impart. I have tried everything: curry, Dtd, 6 mile walks, acupuncture blah blah blah and nothing except a few Braxton hicks and some period-type cramps. Then it all just goes away. I'm feeling tired and stressed and like I'll never meet my daughter. Help!

How is it going, OP?

I had a late baby, midwives wanting to book induction (actually just telling me they were booking induction Hmm) for 40+10. I said I wanted to go to 42, especially since there was a history of 42-week babies on both sides of the family. They weren't thrilled about this but agreed to 'let' me, if I went in for monitoring/scans (which I was fine with, of course).

I really really did not want an induction though. Arrived on the induction suite at 40+14, in tears (ahem) - spoke to doctor who said, well you're basically in early labour already, I do not see you going more than a day before labour starts spontaneously. So she offered to do a sweep instead and start induction in 48 hours if nothing had happened. Went into labour the next day at 40+15, baby born at 40+16, 90 minutes before her scheduled induction.

Hello!
Sorry I've taken a while to update you all on what happened. It's been a bit of an epic trip.

So...She's finally arrived! After three days in hosp, a lot of stress and agony they put me on the pessary and I had to be monitored practically 24/ 7 as her heartbeat kept dropping. Long story short is that I laboured, hard, for 16 hours, and for just over 24 hours in total, and was still only 4cm. Then I passed some blood and meconium and pandemonium broke out and I was offered an emc on Wednesday at 11am, our daughter is here. I'm drugged up to my eyeballs at the moment.

So here I am. Up trying to feed the little one, exhausted, emotional and nearly in tears at the miracle of it all. Thanks for all the support again - you've all been so kind.

Oh dear, makes you want to cut out the middle bit and head straight to c-section, doesn't it?

I hope you get a little rest and feeling better soon.

Flowers and Cake for you xx

All the best. Sounds like you had it really tough. I managed to avoid induction (which wld have been tomoz) but had another loooooong tough labour (25 hours+) in hosp from 4.30am last Mon till birth 6.09 Tue am. Didn't end up with the section you had (so you have my extra sympathies there) but had the same interminable meconium/ monitoring/ slow progress etc, ending up with epidural and forceps after stalling at 9cm. frustrating! we chose to stay in 2 nights as he was a bit slow to feed but have been home 2 days now and he is doing grand, altho the nights are tough. take all the help you can and congratulations!
