Anxiety during pregnancy

I am 7 weeks pregnant with a very much wanted DC4. This is our last hurrah, we have a DD 6, DS 3 and DS 19mths.

Having got pregnant very quickly I now find myself constantly panicked and anxious. I work full time in a professional job, though we live in the Country so commuting and access to quality childcare and schools not an issue. Lot of family support.

I don't know what I am so anxious about, but I am finding it almost crippling. I did not experience it with other pregnancies and am, generally, a relaxed person.

Any one else experienced this. I feel miserable Sad

I have no experience of this, but I think you should talk to your GP. Apparently their is a PND equivalent that occurs during pregnancy and you may be suffering from that. Hope that you feel better soon!

Yes there is a recognised condition of ante natal anxiety/depression. Please see your GP OP, they can refer you to specialists if needed for further support. Do you do any relaxation or mindfulness at the moment?

mslizzy · 10/02/2015 07:15

No real relaxation techniques. I have never suffered depression or anxiety before. Including post natal. Am hoping it will disappear...

You say you're finding it almost crippling - is it stopping you doing normal stuff?

mslizzy · 10/02/2015 08:53

Ummm. Normal stuff like playing with my kids. Cooking dinner and cleaning etc. Am still functioning at work, dropping kids off at Childcare/ school etc. sometimes it's terrifying to me (relative to my usual self) sometimes I feel ok....

Sorry. I mean it is stopping me playing with kids etc but not stopping me function at work etc.

Sorry, disappeared for a bit!
Please do talk to your midwife or GP - it might resolve itself in time but it could get better quicker with a bit of RL support.

Also I think NCT run support helplines for this, hold on I'll check

Here it is - might be useful if you don't feel up to seeing your GP?

mslizzy Have you enjoyed your first 3 pregnancies? If yes, then maybe, just maybe, it is caused by sadness about this pregnancy being your last one and because you know you will miss having the experience again?
