Can someone please help me. I experienced a chemical pregnancy a few months ago. I have irregular periods and my last period was 4th jan which I am now 3 days late for but have long cycles so not exactly late. I have been using a clear blue opk so I know when I ovulated this month. I have took a variety of tests and faint positive lines showed up on first response, superdrug and tesco own. I have took a clear blue digi today and it came up not pregnant :(. Whats weird is I did an opk last night it and it came up with the smiley which means peaks fertility!? Ive rang my doctors but they dont do pregnancy tests there which is weird they say if ive had faint positives then im pregnant but im just not convinced i am now 17dpo why are they so faint?! please someone help.

Emily, I mean this in the nicest way possible.

I've done this 4 times.

A positive is a positive. You can't be a little bit pregnant. It's clear cut. You either are, or you aren't.

And you are pregnant. Stop worrying, being unsure. There's your answer.

Congratulations Flowers

NoRoomForALittleOne · 08/02/2015 20:48

Definitely positive. If I'm honest, I'd keep on testing until a nice clear, satisfying positive comes up.

emilyyyx · 08/02/2015 20:52

thanks everyone... i know i try believe it but then im not fully convinced by the type of positives im getting especially so late on! but thank you everyone x

I can't see pics on my phone but what I want to add is that with my DD I did a test a couple of days after missed period and the line came up really dark instantly. This time round, the line is much fainter and takes a while to appear. I had severe HG with number one and so far ok with this one so maybe just differing levels.
And a line is a line hun there's no getting away from that Smile xxx

emilyyyx · 08/02/2015 22:22

I want it to be a line haha! I hope so thanks for the help. makes me feel ten times better :) xxx

Ive got the reverse situation going on at the moment. Clear blue put me at 1-2 weeks but today's line on my asda cheap test looked paler than Fridays, I'm convinced there is no baby Now. We don't half torture ourselves!!

emilyyyx · 08/02/2015 22:34

Its so stressful isnt it? Did you do both tests at the same time as in time of day you did them? maybe the asda test wasnt as sensitive as the clear blue digital test? Im hoping my test in the morning is going to make me convinced x

emilyyyx · 09/02/2015 10:48

well I did another test today and still faint and that was a first response?! does anyone know why?!

Could be any number of reasons. How faint a test result is tells you nothing. They tell you that you are pregnant, no more and no less. You don't know when you ovulated so it could still be early, tests have theur own limitations and amounts of dye, urine dilution, differing hcg levels caused by individual differences, chemical pregnancies and ectopics. Honestly, you could drive yourself mad wondering.

You are pregnant. That is all any of us knows in the early days.

emilyyyx · 09/02/2015 10:56

I know but surely they should be getting darker and they are not!

sorry if my comment seemed rude then! What I mean is reading from my opk I know when I ovulated so now im 18dpo and still light readings.. Not too sure why :(

We need a pic! It may be too early for the line to be any darker yet. I did have the same situation once with a chemical pregnancy which is why I personally keep testing until I have a good, dark positive. You do need to make sure that you are testing with FMU each day. And, yes, a line is a line and it can only be positive or negative but the line does tend to get darker over the first week or two of getting a positive test.

Showy · 09/02/2015 11:22

You don't know when you ovulated so it's perfectly possible it is very early. You aren't giving the hcg time to increase by testing so frequently. If you wait a few days and test again, then you might reasonably expect a darker line. Daily testing in the v early days does often just result in faint lines.

Number3cometome · 09/02/2015 11:56

Don't worry about it getting darker, a line is a line.

You could hardly see mine, I got worried as all of my cheapy ebay tests were negative until 8 weeks.

Clear Blue was going up in weeks (1-2, 2-3 then 3-4)

You will drive yourself mad with it! Positive is positive, don't expect it to get darker, some of ours never do.

Currently 17+1 Grin

Glossyflower · 09/02/2015 12:00

Hi again Emily.
It doesn't necessarily get darker. On this pregnancy I did a poundland test and saw a faint line. Next day did it again and the line was even fainter. But I am now 6 weeks pregnant.
I'd say congratulations Grin xxx

monkeyfacegrace · 09/02/2015 12:28

Emily you really need to chill out. My lines never got darker. Stop analysing, googling, researching.

You are pregnant. That's all you need to know.

Now, in the nicest way possible, get on with life. Start taking folic acid, stop drinking/smoking but otherwise just carry on.

Book an appointment with the midwife at your GP surgery for middle of March.

And RELAX.

Holly2710 · 08/06/2017 06:36

Hi emilyyyx,

There is nothing to worry about! Clearblue digital test will give you negative results if the level of hcg in your urine is below 25 mlU/ml, whereas first response detects pregnancy with the levels of 10 mlU/ml.
I was in a very similar situation - FR came back positive with a very faint line on the first day of my missed period. I rushed to Boots and bought a digital test, which came back negative. I tested 3 days later and got pregnant 1-2 weeks.

Hope it helps x
