I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

babyboy glad to hear your doc is pretty on the ball. Can't say much more than what mother hen's said; maybe a combination of meds will help, if they fail maybe they will give ondan.

hi stacebazza and glad to hear you hve good meds. 5th time, god you're brave!!

hexa no, that's not normal. As Mother Hen says, please do go get some Ketostix and make an urgent appointment with the doctor.

stacebazza · 19/02/2015 19:16

Yh I did that just went in and told doc that I had it again

stacebazza · 19/02/2015 19:22

Do any of you seem to be getting alot of water infections as well

DurhamRed · 19/02/2015 20:19

Hi Lucinda I'm doing OK thank you. Had second scan yesterday and placenta and amnio fluids levels all fine. Baby is still on the small side so will need another growth scan next week but she is doing fine so that's a relief!

Not long to go now so I'm still hanging in there (unfortunately still suffering nausea and vomiting on a daily basis bit nowhere near as bad as the first trimester) it will all be worth it when baby arrives Smile

elizabethsmum · 19/02/2015 21:02

hi all- sorry have not been around for a while, been away and time has just run away with me somehow- also just found new thread so am marking place. have only been able to catch up on a bit of the thread- very busy, lots of happenings- so difficult to keep up- apologies for all I have missed. Congratulations to frenetic wonderful news! always lovely to have baby news on the thread. welcome to everyone new to the thread- sorry you are suffering but glad you have found us lucinda and meerka do an amazing job of keeping the thread up and running and providing constant support. as a two times former sufferer I do try and help out where I can- with apologies for recent tardiness!
durham glad latest scan went well. my first dd was very small for gestation but I think this was completely unrelated to hg and due to severe pe which developed in third trimester so hopefully your bp is ok and no sign of any protein in urine or anything like that? good that you are having regular checks x

Meerka · 19/02/2015 21:03

stace I was prone to them though oddly enough got less in the pregs. But maybe your doctor can give metronidazole - I took it throughout except in the last 3 weeks before the labour, it's safe up until that point but not so good immediately before.

Do get it checked out, seriously. Water infectoins in preg can be much nastier than when not preg. The symptoms can be differnet from normal too.

durham very pleased to hear Redette is doing fine at the moment. Must have been such a relief.

Not being preg will be like a holiday. And you get the lovely reward on top!

LucindaE · 20/02/2015 10:14

stace Urine infections seem to be common with this, due to lack of liquies I suppose. What Meerka says interests me as I'm always prone to them.
I used illiicitely to take half a teaspoonful of bicarbonate of soda in water to lessen the sting as an anti acid - needless to say, you're not supposed to.
Really feel for you, you don't need that on top of the other misery.
DurhamRed I'm so glad that they're not inducing yet, then - will keep my fingers crossed.
elizabethsumum So nice to have you back, we've missed you. Hope all is well with you.
Waves to Meerka and I hope everyone is coping today...

Elizabeth bp and urine are all fine, they're checking those frequently to ensure I don't have pre-eclamsia, have mw appointment on Monday for bp and urine check before antenatal clinic on Weds.

Meerka was definitely a relief knowing all was OK with placenta and that they think she will just be a small baby. Will see how she is growing at the next scan on Weds. I must admit I'm looking forward to not being pregnant and meeting my little girl, i know I shouldn't wish the time away but I'm looking forward to the end of pregnancy!

Lucinda thankfully they don't want to induce yet, they feel she will be much happier coming out in her own time. Although my mw thinks she'll be early as I'm having lots of braxton hix and she is already sitting very very low in my pelvis...I hope her prediction is right!

HexagonAlley · 20/02/2015 13:03

Thanks for the response guys. It's 1pm and Ive already thrown up 5x today. I can't keep my head up either. Thank god DS is at nursery for the day.

I've got an appointment for Monday wih docs. Hope they don't fob me off.

Meerka · 20/02/2015 13:34

hexagon can you take someone with you as an advocate? it seems to work quite well. Also, read up on the NICE guidelines that Mother Hen pasted above (though I'm not quite sure the link works lucinda?) The Goals state that the idea is to keep women living as normal a life as possible and the MEds give you a list you can ask for. It's worth a read so you know what's safely available.

durhamred fingers crossed little Redette wants to meet her mama face to face early!

Nice to see you again eliz'smum :)

elizabethsmum · 20/02/2015 14:16

hex if it gets to the stage over the weekend where you are no longer keeping any fluids down at all I would urge you to get seen as an emergency either at out of hrs surgery or A&E as it is very easy to get dehydrated and need iv fluids if you are vomiting this much.

waves to meerka, lucinda, durham and everyone

LucindaE · 20/02/2015 18:17

Hex Just dashing on to join others in urging you to go to A and E if the vomiting continues this bad - if you haven't got kestostix, sings of deydration, as you'll probably know, headache, scanty urine, blurred vision and dry skin, later, confusion comes; at that point it's unfortunately very hard to take it in when people point out that you need treatment, so don't delay too long. Sorry to sound bossy...
Meerka Oh dear, about link. Trust me...Sorry about that, everyone.
Waves to all, leaves clucking....

How you doing hex?

Can anyone suggest what foods I can try? Almost everything I'm eating at the moment sends my stomach into horrid cramps, regardless of whether it stays down. Milk/dairy seem to be particular culprits, but everything causes cramps to some degree. What are you guys managing?

Hellohellohowareyou · 21/02/2015 13:48

Eallison88 not food but I pretty much lived on Lucozade for the first few weeks, was worried about the caffeine and sugar but midwife said it was ok as I literally couldn't tolerate anything else.

Then I moved into crumpets, roasts potatoes and yorkshire puds Grin

LucindaE · 21/02/2015 14:37

Hello waves to another who found Lucozade good.
eallison It seems so individual what people can stand - for me, crisps washed down by full sugar coke left to go flat, ice cream (the cheap, rubbishy sort), jelly, tinned fruit and the juice of tinned fruit, ice lollies (if they an be called food) and nibbles of chips. A truly appalling diet... a bit later, I could stand home made vegetable soup, boiled potatoes and slices of cold chicken. I drank Iron Bru too, but I think on here I was unusual in that (was it a craving for iron? does it really have it in it?). Hope some of these work for you; congratulations again to all who managed pancakes...

Meerka · 21/02/2015 15:19

some people find that really highly processed stuff is all that thye can managed .. Big Macs or KFCs or something. Really!

Anything is better than nothing so if you think you can stomach it, try it.

There are also some eating suggestions here: www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/help/women-suffering/eating-advice/

My MIL fed me calorific soups!

eallison88 · 21/02/2015 18:07

My MIL seems to think I just need to sick it up and get over myself and get on with it. I'd love it if she started trying to provide helpful food!

trixy04 · 22/02/2015 00:46

Hello to all the new people !

I thought i was doing so well..... been off sick again this week, taking things really easy, not even setting an alarm, lots of sleep, pushing my fluids, managed to get to 2 meals a day.... didn't want to drive too late in the evening tonight as been getting really tired, but got invited to some friends, they even came over to pick me up. I knew by the time they even thought about food it would be north of 8pm, so i even took my dinner with me and sat eating it at 7 (Anything i have after 8pm comes straight back up regardless). I felt so bad. About 9:30 I threw up down my dress, thought i'd pee'd myself, went to their loo, projectile vommed over their bathroom for a good few rounds. I even threw up on the cleaning materials they had in the corner of the bathroom. I hope they didn't mind too much, but i felt a bit ashamed. The worst is that on friday, i had presumptively called work up and said i would give work a 'go' on monday (sicknote ran out) - i suppose, if i feel bad on monday, i can always go home and go to the docs again.

I am trying not to push it but go through so many 'good' days then it all turns to poo in rather dramatic 'bad' days. My plan is to drug myself up and little little snacks. I only have one more week till i am on a week of annual leave - aiming for March 1st.

LucindaE · 22/02/2015 10:06

trixy You poor thing, that sounds awful - humiliating too; just the sort of things that would have happened to me, in fact...You mustn't force yourself in tomorrow if you feel bad, rest is what you need to get over this thing. Can the sick note be extended?
eallison It's very annoying, but for all the recent publicity, people still don't understand the difference between this and normal ms and imagine you are exaggerating unless they have the task of looking after you, when they soon realize otherwise...
Waves to lovely Meerka and elizabethsmum and Helloand i do hope everyone is coping.

Today I'm beyond fed up. Mornings have been alright throughout all of this. Pre drugs I'd feel sick but not be sick. nit thus morning. I had to do a very undignified dash from the front if church where we sit to the toilets at the back to hurl. Also, I used to be able to vom silently. Not anymore. So I'm sure someone will have heard me.

I think the best word to sum up how I feel right now is angry. How dare my body take my good mornings from me? Why have I lost the ability to silent vom. It's like my body has decided to just make my life hell and embarrass me.

trixy that sounds horrid, I'm so sorry. I think I'm just gonna put myself under house arrest to avoid situations such as these.

LucindaE · 22/02/2015 12:09

eallison That is awful. I so know what you mean about the embarrassment of noisy puking; I've never been able to do it silently, I don't quite know how people can, but to this day, with migraines, I'm a noisy puker. Really feel for you and trixy and everyone who has their life ruined by this; social activities become things to be dreaded.

OP posts:
elizabethsmum · 22/02/2015 13:40

eallison poor you. I have had many undignified public vomming moments in both of my pregnancies and fear of doing so makes it worse as well. I did not enjoy a single moment of being pg and felt angry, embarrassed, grubby and totally anti - social most of the time. well done for even making it to church this morning I say. hg vomiting ime can sometimes take you by surprise when you are feeling relatively ok- even eating- full meals literally came flying back out of my mouth on more than one occasion trixy. hg also has a habit of making you think you are ok when really you are not- I would take another week off if I was you xx

trixy04 · 22/02/2015 15:18

eallison - don't hide yourself away. I don't like the idea of this beating me, getting in the way of things i like.... I spent most of last week hiding away and it did me no good - ok, i feel rested, i'm drinking again (finally back on cups of tea !) but the good days and the bad days take me completely by surprise. elizabthsmum - i can see your point about taking another week off, but i'm sitting here today, feeling ticky boo and full tum from beans on toast thinking really positive thoughts. I am still not sure about work tomorrow.... its only 5 hours....!

eallison88 · 22/02/2015 16:00

I'm meant to be back at work tomorrow (after half term this). I'm dreading it, and I wonder if that's affecting how bad I am today.

Hellohellohowareyou · 22/02/2015 16:18

This is my last week on reduced hours, going bk to the docs thurs to review it but unsure what to suggest. Any ideas? I have been doing 4 hours a day for the past four weeks. Would be happy and think I could manage a little more but not sure I would be up to doing full time just yet
