I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hi all, not sure if anyone remembers me, but I had my little boy on 12th Feb by c-section and he weighed a whopping 9lb 10oz - not sure how I managed that given how sick I was!

I've not felt nauseated since he was born (apart from when I stupidly took painkillers on an empty stomach) so I'm another survivor here to reassure those in the throes of HG - it gets better. I promise. x

eallison88 · 18/02/2015 13:07

I think if you cry enough at my doctors they put your forward. It helped that we may or may not have fudged the dates a bit...

I have my first official midwife apt at 2 pm. I need to leave the house in 5 minutes, drop a key unto the estate agent for a viewing at half 1. And I'm sat next to the loo sobbing and heaving. I'm not even dressed.

eallison88 · 18/02/2015 13:08

frenetic that is good to hear. Thank you

Meerka · 18/02/2015 13:15

frenetic ofc I remember you ! absolutely LOVELY to hear you've reached the end of the course and got the prize at long last! How are you recovering? :) Hope you and he both are doing well (pic??)

Lovely news :)

Today my OH was talking to a customer at work that rang up and she was saying that she suffered with hyperemesis in her pregnancy and spent the entire 9 months in hospital. She couldn't leave for more than 3 days without being readmitted. She ended up with kidney stones and even the beginnings of kidney failure as she was so dehydrated! When she gave birth she was 2 stone lighter than before she fell pregnant. That made me thankful that I'm not suffering as badly as that!! Although of course, it doesn't make our suffering any easier.

I managed a full 8 hour shift at work today and actually don't feel too bad!!

eallison88 · 18/02/2015 18:18

The Heaving Stopped. Made it to my booking apt - this baby is now officially on the system!! The midwife made it really clear to me that my priority now is being pregnant and my baby. And work comes second. It was good to hear that from someone else. She said to speak to gp re higher dose of ondansetron, so gonna see if I can get an apt with gp on Friday re amended sick note for work on Monday, and get more drugs.

In other news, had an offer accepted and accepted an offer on ours. So soon, if all goes well, we'll be moving! Hopefully on plenty time to settle in before pickle makes an appearance.

question; is it common that women with HG don't go full term? Induced early/planned c section?

DurhamRed · 18/02/2015 18:20

Congratulations frenetic such love!y news Smile

trixy04 · 18/02/2015 19:58

Don't know what was in the pancakes (besides kinder egg chocolate) but i kept both down yesterday. Might of taken my meds just a wee while before making them.

I didn't throw up yesterday (jigs up and down!!), i made it till half past midnight to chuck. Am on a roll today, managed to get through my water sips to the point i have had nearly 2 litres.

Not sure if this is the drugs, the rest or that i am 13 1/2 weeks now, so it might be lessening. Don't want to jinx anything, its not as if i haven't seen bits of breakfast today!

eallison88 · 18/02/2015 20:51

trixy huzzah! That sounds really positive!

Meerka · 19/02/2015 07:54

ealli great news about the offers! Also good news that the midwife took you seriously. So agree with her that you and the baby > work! Hope you can get that higher dose.

I think almost all women with HG go to full term. Sometimes they are induced or have a C-section but for other reasons. Mother Hen will know more though.

dilly jeeze that woman had an appalling time :o Was very worried about kalidasa but she did at least improve later on, mostly, and wasn't in hospital for the whole time.

trixy good to hear you had a good day yesterday. If it's the beginning of improvement, that'd be great. You do get good days and bad but the overall slope will hopefully be up.

babyboyHarrison · 19/02/2015 10:32

Hi everyone new to the thread. due on15th August with my second child. Had HG last time so no great surprise that I have it again. so far avoided being admitted to hospital but just feeling miserable with it. hoped i'd be feeling a bit better by now (nearly 15 weeks now) currently trying my third different medication. Had a month off work and tried to go back but think it's making me worse just feel so guilty taking so much time off Doctor has signed me off for another two weeks. But unsure whether to use it

Don't think I'm as bad as many of you as seem to have ketones under control but just so sick of being sick all the time. Two months of feeling dreadful just really gets you down.

Sara

dillydollydarling · 19/02/2015 11:26

Meerka - that woman did have an absolutely terrible time but you know what, she's trying for another child!! There must be something amazing about these babies that makes us willing to suffer through hell to have them! Wink

Had a pretty good day yesterday but struggling with the tiredness today!

Meerka · 19/02/2015 11:44

hi babyboy. Keep on hanging in there!

It is better to rest but if you feel terrible about it to the point that you get more wound up, would part time or phased return to work help? It would be better to rest though becuase HG drains your stamina badly and you have six more months of pregnancy. The HG almost certainly won't be that bad for all of it but even so.

Which meds are you on? it sounds like you have a sympathetic doctor which is a good thing.

Sucking ice chips can help some people or drinking very hot or very cold stuff, maybe through a straw.

babyboyHarrison · 19/02/2015 12:04

Hi Meerka

So far had cyclizine, stemitil and now on metoclopramide. I was put off trying metoclopramide as nice guidines say to take for only 5 days. FDA says ok for up to 12 weeks so a bit confused. That said been throwing up worse than ever with it today so not sure I'll using it for very long anyway. Doctors seem to be more helpful this time around than last and I'm more forceful in pushing for help. Not sure I'm sick enough to warrant the cost of ondansetron but running out of medicines to try now. The being sick I can cope with but the nausea is just constant and makes you feel vile.

I was going to try and work from home today but just feel too sick so looking like a sofa day watching Netflix on the iPad.

It's so nice to read these forums, never really looked at them last time around. I feel for everyone going through it. I know so many people have it worse than me and I have a lovely supportive husband who is very tolerant if having to do all the housework and the childcare at the weekend. My nearly 2 year old boy keeps bringing me my buckets from around the house and making pretend sick noises. He obviously thinks its perfectly normal and isn't bothered by it. As least I'm at the point where I can sit on the sofa and have a bedtime cuddle with him while watching night garden together which helps curb the depression.

I know it will all be worth it and its only temporary it's just hard not to feel down sometimes.

eallison88 · 19/02/2015 14:05

As far as I'm concerned, there shouldn't be "sick enough" for ondansetron. Taking ondansetron means that I am just about keeping on top of the sickness. Which means I'm able to eat and drink a bit. Which means I don't get too dehydrated. Which means I don't end up readmitted to hospital. Which my gp sister in law tells me costs roughly 2500. So ondansetron is saving the nhs money. And keeping me largely sane.

Good day today. Went to work for a few hours (even tho half term - plus side no one around to tell me i look ill!) and caught myslef up a bit which makes me feel better. Then I managed a quick morrisons trip (another completely random shop of things I thought I might fancy). I'm expecting tomorrow to be hard as pay off, but I'm doing this one day at a time.

Unfortunately, hubby thinks I'm not getting excited enough about moving. I am excited, but it's too far in the future (ie not today, tomorrow or early next week) for me to think about. I am really struggling to think about anything other than the day by day.

LucindaE · 19/02/2015 14:13

Welcome, Babyboy. I hope things ease off for you soon;so many women try and rush back to work with this, or keep on going in - but it's so draining and as dillys midwife says and Meerka too, the baby has to come first. LO sounds sweet, I'm glad he isn't worried by it. If they are reluctant to give you Ondansetron, might they give you some combination of other drugs? I know others on here who GP's thought weren't suffering badly enough to be prescrbed Ondansetron were given combinations including vitamin B6.
eallison and trixy Good news about good days - don't overdo it. I tried to eat pancakes with chocolate in Paris, and found it sickly even without Hyperemesis - so well done on digesting that.
DurhamRed How are things going?
dilly and Meerka That poor woman - I have heard of one or two women who do have to be in hospital throughout - but so far, Kalidasa and wavesandsmiles have been the ones who suffered most on this thread.
dilly Congratulations on booking in - Mother Hen so agrees with that midwife.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

Hi everyone im new on here im on my 5th pregnancy and 4th time with hyperemisis luckily not ended up in hospital so far and been put on some great tablets im nearly 14 weeks so hi

eallison88 · 19/02/2015 16:36

Hi Stace. You must be an expert!

Fairly successful dr apt; amended sick note til 19th March saying reduced hours/responsibilities, with the promise from me that if I'm struggling I'll go back and be signed off fully. No extra ondansetron at this point, he wants me on extra Cyclozine first, but if it's no better then again, arrange a telephone consultation with him.

Every dr I've spoken to at my gps since being diagnosed with HG have been brilliant.

Another better day today. a day at a time... and almost hour by hour!

dillydollydarling · 19/02/2015 16:42

I'm glad your doctors are being good! Most of the ones I saw were terrible!! The first one I saw told me to eat ginger biscuits and try those pressure bands and that I didn't look dehydrated. The very next day I was admitted into hospital seriously dehydrated!! I saw another one a few weeks later who told me to wear loose clothing and get some fresh air. Again, the next day I was in hospital. Thankfully the last one I saw was willing to prescribe ondansetron but I've had a real struggle to get them to prescribe anything for it!

I made it to the shops and back today! And even managed half an egg mayo sandwich and a hot chocolate Grin fingers crossed that the worst of this is behind me!

HexagonAlley · 19/02/2015 16:50

Hi all, my first post on the thread. I'm currently PG with number 2. I was extremely lucky that I only had evening nausea with my first. So this experience is so new to me.

Can anyone tell me if I just have bad sickness or HG?

I feel nauseous all day. It may subside fr about 30 mins but other than that all day. I throw up maybe 7-10 times a day. I can eat and drink however although it usually comes back up at some point.

Is it HG? Or do I just need to suck it up as above average pregnancy sickness?

HexagonAlley · 19/02/2015 16:51

Oh and I'm only 5 weeks!

stacebazza · 19/02/2015 17:16

Not sure about being an expert just thought not again tbh

LucindaE · 19/02/2015 17:55

Welcome to Stacebazzaand Hexagonally . Stace You'll find lots of support here; everyone is very lovely; you're very brave.
Hex Being sick ten times a day is NOT normal Ms - you need meds and bossy Mother Hen says do make an emergency appointment with dr's. You also need kesostix to make sure you're not getting dehydrated, available from any chemists.
Hope Durham has had some good news?

OP posts:
eallison88 · 19/02/2015 18:43

hex I sucked it up for 2weeks. This is my first so had no comparison and I just thought I was being stupid. Eventually I went to the docs and was immediately admitted to hospital and put on a drip.
