I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Wow I'd forgotten how fast this thread moves! Lucinda it's nice to know you remember me! Sorry to hear how much everyone is suffering. It's one of the things that has meant we've waited so long to try for another baby. My DH is very worried about the effect it will have both on me and the children and I'm worried about him!

Those saying you can't imagine doing it again, I'd suggest concentrating on today. Don't worry about tomorrow or next week or next year. You'll know what's right for you when the time comes.

Gentle hugs for those who can manage them.

LucindaE · 11/02/2015 14:36

BarmeeMarmee Of course, I remember you. How are things now?
dilly ealisson and everyone, a number of people on here have paid for cleaning help - but like alternative medication, even if it's a bit expensive they did find it helped a lot. I really feel for anyone who feels like crying at doing the dishes - given the morbid sense of smell with this...
MeerkaPoor you and Mr Meerka!
Hope that everyone is coping today.

I didn't think I would be able to do it again after then first time round, but once you feel that rush you get when you've had your baby it makes it all worthwhile, I promise. I will definitely be sticking at 2 though, I couldn't be this poorly with 2 children to care for, it's difficult enough with 1.

I finally packed my hospital bag and the baby's bag today. I'm praying I'm not sick through my entire labour this time as it really made things difficult.

WillowHouse · 11/02/2015 16:08

Not sure if anyone remembers me but i had to stop reading this thread as hearing about vomit/nausea was making me worse. I'm now 22 weeks and am very lucky to have a fab doc and midwife. I am on ordanestron which totally stopped the vomiting by christmas but i am really struggling with eating and exhaustion. Is it normal to sleep 15 hours a day? And i find a lot of food make me gag so im really struggling to eat. Strawberries and carrots i can eat never ending amounts but everything else just makes me feel sick.

eallison88 · 11/02/2015 17:19

willow sending husband out to by strawberries and carrots! I'm finding that ondansetron seems to control sickness, but still nauseous (not as bad) and certain foods definitely make me feel more nauseous. I shall try strawberries and carrots! I too am exhausted. Went to work today, lasted til just gone one. Home at 1.30 and habe just woken up. Have made hubby arrange to take some washing to his mums tonight.

DurhamRed · 11/02/2015 19:42

Hi ladies, just popping on for some advice...I had a growth scan today which has shown that baby has reduced growth and now sits just under the 10th percentile. Placental blood flow is good and her movements haven't slowed down, so that's a positive. However, I gave no idea what has slowed her growth and was wondering if severe weight loss due to hg would contribute to slowed growth (I have been managing to eat and drink and have been gaining weight..but not drastically). Have any of you ladies experienced intrauterine growth restriction in your pg's?

I have another scan next week and if she has shown little or no growth it is possible that I would need to be induced or require emcs. Obviously I'm really worried about what's slowing my baby girls growth and I'm wondering if hg has something to do with it (I may be clutching at straws I know!).

Meerka · 12/02/2015 08:41

oh gosh durham.

From what I've read, severe HG in the 2nd and 3rd trimester can affect birthweight. How far along are you now? But if you are managing to eat and drink and gain weight, that is a positive. The baby should be getting enough nutrition - they are ruthless in first taking anything that's coming through the system, the mum gets the leftovers!

willow hello again - glad you got such good health care professionals. If you really have HG bad like you then yes it's normal to really struggle eating all the way through. Have you mentioned it to your doctor? strawberries and carrots are pretty good options if you are stuck eating only two foods, but it's worth checking that you're getting all you need nutrition-wise.

About the sleeping, people often get exhausted during preg and need way more sleep. 15 hours sounds a lot BUT ~do not underestimate~ just how much the HG took out of you in the earlier weeks and is still taking out of you now. It absolutely drains your stamina. Sleep as much as you can.

dilly i think you're right. You don't forget. Though some people end up going for a 2nd anyway ... it took us about 3 years to even contemplate it though, then a wait to get preg .... my wait now is to get the appointment to be sterilized! :)

eallison88 · 12/02/2015 10:53

Bad day today, and horrid evening. I think I allowed myself to get too hungry and then it was all downhill; bringing up anything I tried to eat last night. Managed a bit better this morning, half a croissant! Went to work (had to get some stuff sorted for tomorrow, before someone tells me off - I've had that lecture from hubby!). Managed 2 hours then home. Now grazing on some vegetable crisps, in the vain hope of trying to stave off the hunger and accompanying vomiting. Fingers crossed!

Lesson learnt not to let myself get hungry!

Glossyflower · 12/02/2015 11:48

For you ladies who are suffering at the moment. I didn't have any safe foods when I was pregnant but it was suggested to me by some Chinese family to boil rice, until all the water is absorbed and keep adding water until it's really thick and mushy. Add a little salt. It's really good as it's basically carbs full of water and I found it a little easier to keep down. Worth a try if nothing else xxx

BlueberryWafer · 12/02/2015 12:10

Try not to worry too much, Durham, I had bad HG in my first pregnancy and was told at a growth scan that the baby was small (I literally couldn't eat anything for the majority of my pregnancy I lived off smoothies on good days and odd bits of food I could manage) and ds was born 8lb 4oz Smile

jenpatnim · 12/02/2015 12:11

Sorry guys, I have vanished for so long. Things have been tough - my brother and SIL lost their baby and I was managing my sickness ok - until the weekend there when I couldn't keep anything down. I ended up admitted on a drip tuesday and yesterday and am now home but tired. They have given me stemetil along with the ondansetron so hopefully that will help.

Hope everyone else is surviving.

15 weeks now, due 3rd August

BlueberryWafer · 12/02/2015 12:12

Had an awful night last night, threw up for the majority of the night and my throat is all burnt :( 34 days til my due date, it can't come quick enough!

Jenpatnim · 12/02/2015 12:13

Durham, I had HG with my first pregnancy too - I lost 2 stone, and DS was a whopping 8lb 7oz.

Meerka · 12/02/2015 13:19

jen I'm so sorry to hear about your brother and SIL and their loss. [non-scented Flowers]

are you able to rest now that you are home again from the hospital and rehydrated?

LucindaE · 12/02/2015 16:08

Jenn Really sorry to hear about that family tragedy and that you've been in hospital. How do you feel now?
BlueberryWafer Sorry about awful night - poor you.
Durham I can't improve on others good advice and comforting remakrs; it's worrying for you, but may not even be hyperemesis related as others say. I hope that have better news for you soon.
Willow Welcome back. Again, I can't improve on Meerka's and others' comments and I so agree you mustn't underestimate how much having this all the way through so far has exhausted you.
Eallison88 How are things? Do the vegetable crisps taste like normal ones? They sound like a great idea if so.
Waves to all. Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

OP posts:
eallison88 · 12/02/2015 16:34

Veg crisps taste different, but I managed a few. Since had soup and toast. Keeping myself topped up!

DurhamRed · 12/02/2015 17:19

Thanks everyone for your support.

Meerka I am 35 weeks today and have a small bump really (I'm not a petite lady either.. 5'8" and a size 14) I think I was just thrown yesterday as I was told that if baby hasn't shown significant growth by the next scan (next wednesday) I may be induced. Fingers cross she shows signs of growth over the next week!

WillowHouse · 12/02/2015 19:34

Durham i hope baby has a massive growth spurt for you.

Hugs for everyone feeling/being sick.

All i do is sleep and im still tired. DH gets the kids up and to school - i sleep and graze till about 2 when i get up, prep tea, collect the girls, play-feed-bed girls then fall asleep myself. Guess its one way to make time pass.

Meerka · 12/02/2015 20:36

will be thinking and hoping for you durham. Hang on in there baby, keep thinking big.

blueberry hope your throat is okay now.

willow sounds like you're doing okay tbh, any more than that and you would be really making yoruself sick. Sleeping is the best way of getting through HG!

eallison88 · 12/02/2015 21:43

Ok, so evenings (and I mean after 5) are a write off. Spent the evening trying to eat and then throwing it all up again. fighting horrid heartburn and fighting vomiting even when there's nothing left to hurl up. I hate this.

LucindaE · 13/02/2015 16:35

Eallison Poor you - sounds awful. I believe there is a really good anti acid - and I'm cursing myself trying to remember it's name - on prescription, and it might be worth asking for that. What's the attitude of your doctors about prescribing some more meds? Some find Gaviiscon helps with the acid and bloating; I actually found it made me feel more bloated...
Durham Keeping fingers crossed for baby to put on a growth spurt.
Thinking of you all. Waves to Meerka.

OP posts:
eallison88 · 13/02/2015 17:33

I'm practically mainlining gaviscon, which helps a little. Can totally trade off feeling bloated for relief! Plus, I've not left the house since 10am yday!

I'm now taking cyclozine at 4pm on epu sisters advice. I've got an apt on Monday with a gp (not the one who initially spotted the HG, but the one I got the sicknote off -1st docs away at the moment),and I'm gonna ask for more ondansetron (or the dancing trons as they are affectionately known in our house!) and something for the heartburn. Not quite as hopeful as I was that I'll be working normally after half term.

It's a big family party tomorrow - both in laws 60th, with people coming from up and down the country. I've been looking forward to it for months and now I'm dreading it. I'm only 8 weeks pregnant, so hubby doesn't want to tell anyone what's going on (his parents and sisters and partners, as does my dad), and hubby and mother in law think I just tell people I'm not well and am on antibiotics. Well I certainly look unwell! I'm dreading it, as it starts pretty much the time when things start to go downhill for me. ..

LucindaE · 13/02/2015 17:56

Elallison Oh dear, you are in no state for parties, this is a difficult one.
Where are they? Can you do a walk on appearance? It's so hard to conceal this condition . Re: gaviscon, I remember bringiing up a bowl of strange foam after drinking alarming amounts of it - Shock . What is the name of that excellent anti acid? Meerka may know...

24th September for me (liable to change when I reach 12 weeks and have a dating scan!).

I'm thinking fairly walk on, they only live a 5 minute drive, so we'll go round and then I'll just have to get hubby to drive me home when I can't do any more (driving is a nightmare, Im getting motion sickness and need to really concentrate on breathing and staying calm).

BlueberryWafer · 13/02/2015 18:33

My due date is 18th march not 28th Smile
