I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Glossyflower Hugs. It's only normal to want more than one baby, after all. It's not fair, but we all know that; with the right meds you'll be able to cope better during the worst bit - if it hits full force - and I so agree with Meerka's post. If the doctor isn't any more helpful than the first, do phone the 024 7628 2020 number and they can give really good advice on obtaning meds.
Eallison Good news. Have you got a sick note, too?
Blueberry Congratulations on soup!
dilly Good news about meds working. I believe the stomach does shrink, and quickly - so your extended bout of not eating will certainly have done that. Goodness knows how much the stomachs of people who're puking throughout must shrink - Meerka was one? Come to think of it, it must be a factor in dieting...
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

The relief from not feeling like I'm about to puke is amazing! What should I do to prevent constipation from these tablets? Will definitely be asking for some more before these run out!

eallison88 · 09/02/2015 19:35

I've just eaten real food! Took my first tablet at 2 pm. Feeling slightly queasy having eaten, but I cam totally cope with a little queasiness!!

Hopefully getting a sick note tomorrow when a doctor rings me - had to fight for that a bit, the receptionist said I needed to speak to the doctor who initially diagnosed me and he's not in til Thurs. So I had a bit of a strop and she agreed to get another doctor to ring tomorrow. I can't decide whether it's a good thing its a woman that's ringing me or not

BlueberryWafer · 09/02/2015 21:09

Your stomach definitely does shrink. I was sick throughout my entire pregnancy first time round as well and after I'd given birth (and thankfully stopped puking) I found I could only eat very small portions and I was full.

Frantasic · 10/02/2015 08:32

Hi guys... I might be a bit premature but I thought I'd say hi... Just in case! I found out I am PG yesterday and if this one goes the same way my other 3 did when HG is gonna feature highly. The first one with DD was particularly bad and I lost a grant total of 4.5 stone because it went on throughout. It wasn't so bad with DS, thankfully. But it was bad again with no 3, who I MC despite the HG.

This morning I have woken up feeling sicky, not awful, but I have notable nausea. I am 4 weeks and 3 day. Not a good sign for HG.

Plus side though... The line on the test was darker this morning when I tested.

I hope you don't mind me saying hi and hopefully I'lol be able to support you and not need it myself.

Glossyflower · 10/02/2015 10:41

Hi and welcome Fran.
I'm in a similar situation to you. This is my second and first had HG. I'm 5+5 and past few days felt all the symptoms of HG without much nausea. Strange. But today I feel much more positive. I've been eating little and often, more carbs, and went to my GP and said I feel it may be coming on and I don't want it bad like last time. He was actually very supportive and prescribed my cyclizine and thiamine even though I've only vomited once so far.
I believe you have to be aggressive to treat it in early stages because once it gets bad theres not much that can relieve it (for me I realise we are all different).
Thank you Lucinda for your words of encouragement. Feeling better today and much more positive.

I hope all you lovely ladies are having an easier HG day. Hugs to you all xxx

dillydollydarling · 10/02/2015 12:10

Had a pretty good day yesterday. Feeling a little sicky today but nowhere near as bad as usual though. And I managed a normal bowl of cereal for breakfast...that hasn't happened in about 5 weeks! Grin

Meerka · 10/02/2015 13:48

hi frans and welcome

Hope people are surviving ...

eallison88 · 10/02/2015 14:33

Ondansetron is magic. Im Managing To Eat! I've not yet ventured out of bed, though. Had a phone call with a doc who has done me an amended sick note
, saying I can work but shortened hours, restrioted duties and no school trips. so I Feeling really positive. Fingers crossed.

dillydollydarling · 10/02/2015 15:02

eallison I feel exactly the same! Today I managed a normal breakfast and I even had a tin of ravioli for lunch! Also managed to get some housework done and just generally feeling a lot happier.

I know feel like I should have fought harder to get this prescribed earlier. May have been able to prevent a couple of hospital admissions if I had. But hey, I feel better at the moment so that's all that matters Grin

Onemilliongal · 10/02/2015 16:23

Hi ladies, i was discharged from hospital yesterday with cyclizine only but Iam still being sick is it supposed to cure the sickness completely or just take the edge off? I don't want to think it's not working. Also while in hospital I was given b6 but it wasn't given to me on discharge and I wasn't told to get it my self I would like to know if b6 is compulsory to take and where I can get it from and something else bothering me is I was on a gyn ward and was given a blood thinning injection to avoid clots is it supposed to be given to pregnant women? Bse with my first child I was in hospital a lot but never given that injection sorry I have gone on too much

LucindaE · 10/02/2015 16:23

Welcome, sorry to hear about your mc after Hyperemesis, and that you sufffered badly with the others. I hope you escape this time. I so agree with others about pre-emptive meds, but I don't feel in a position to advice you, as after three goes of this, you're a real veteran.
Glossyeallison88 and dilly That all sounds good.

Sorry forgot to say 10 weeks preg

LucindaE · 10/02/2015 16:29

Welcome too to Onemilliongal - cross posted. Sorry to hear you've been ill enough to be hospitalized. I wouldn't have thought they'd give you any treatment that wasn't completely safe for a pregnant woman. You can get B6 from any chemists, and I have heard it really helps combined with cyclazine. I beleive also, that the effect of cyclazine is menat to be cummulative, but I need Meerka and other experts for that.
It doesn't sound good if you're stilll being sick. Did they say that the ketones had all gone? Have you got kesostix to check for dehydration, available from any chemists?

OP posts:
Onemilliongal · 10/02/2015 16:37

Thanks LucindaE for your immediate response , I was given 5 drips and they tested my urine before discharge and it showed no ketones , I will buy B6 and kestostix and continue to check my urine . The last thing I want is to go back to hospital when is got an 18 months old

eallison88 · 10/02/2015 16:47

Quick rant warning!

Just got up and showered cos I want to walk to docs to pick up sick note (5mins)... The house is an absolute shit tip! We have a cleaner once a week, on a weds. So on Wednesday my house was immaculate. It's now a war zone. Hubby has done no tidying/cleankng/anything. I am so angry! I know i haven't done any either, but I've been feeling like death!he's not even been to work (massively understanding boss ) so all he's been doing when not trying to help me (which I am v v grateful for) is watching TV. Ffs!

Meerka · 10/02/2015 16:48

Cyclizine tablets take the edge off but few people find they completely remove the vomitting and nausea. You could ask the doctor for somethign stronger; metoclopramide or prochlorperazine would be good to take as well.

sorry if im a bit quiet, afraid that Mr Meerka and I ate something that disagreed with us.

BlueberryWafer · 10/02/2015 16:58

eallison - don't worry about your house, mine looked like a bomb had hit it on really bad weeks :)

I'm chuffed for those of you who ondansetron works like magic for and extremely jealous let's hope it keeps up for you so you can get some nutrition in your body!

Ds is currently sat eating chicken dippers and a waffle as I'm too queasy and tired to cook today - DP will just have to sort his own tea when he gets home from work.

35 weeks tomorrow. Home straight Smile

eallison88 · 10/02/2015 17:22

Blueberry that's reassuring to hear... maybe we'll find the money to get the cleaner in twice a week!

dillydollydarling · 10/02/2015 17:56

My house also looks like a bomb site when OH is working 12 hour shifts and I can't move out of bed to tidy.

In all fairness, OH has been amazing. He hates doing any kind of housework and I normally do most of it, but on his days off, he's been cleaning, tidying, hoovering, doing the laundry etc. Bless him, I'd be lost without his help!

eallison88 · 10/02/2015 18:07

If mine just kept on top of the washing up I'd feel better. After j exhausted myself trying to tidy up and he found me sat on the kitchen floor trying to catch my breath, I think he's realised that he needs to do a bit. I even said he could get his mum to do it, just so that it's kept a little tidy!!

He seemed to take that on board, so hopefully things will be different if I have another down blip.

dillydollydarling · 10/02/2015 19:23

Bless you. Hopefully he will start to help out a bit more. I found my OH seemed to understand how bad I was when I was trying to help him sort out the house a few weeks ago and had to keep stopping to run to the bathroom or catch my breath. He told me to go and have a lie down and he finished the rest of the house himself!

dillydollydarling · 10/02/2015 19:25

Oh and I nearly cried at one point and asked him if we could pay someone to do the dishes could I just couldn't face them and that's one job my OH absolutely despises and very rarely does.

I can't imagine how people cope with this when they already have kids!

eallison88 · 10/02/2015 19:34

dilly I've said exactly the same to my hubby, I have so much respect for any woman doing this with children to look after. I've always wanted a big family, but now I'm not so sure. If I do have more pregnancies then I'm definitely gonna have a care plan in place and get ondansetron from the off. I think adoption might be the way forward for my big family!

dillydollydarling · 10/02/2015 19:43

I always wanted 2 or 3 kids. Right now I can't imagine ever putting myself through this again. People keep saying that I'll forget all about it once I have my baby in my arms....I'm not so convinced!
