I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

I'm very glad you got fluids blueberry. Are you able to keep any liquids down now?

eallison88 · 12/03/2015 11:22

Glad they finally saw sense and got some fluids into you. It's just a shame they were unpleasant.

I'm currently sat on floor outside gp waiting for a apt. Luckily I asked how many people were in front of me (I was on time) and was told 4. So I made the decision to wait outside cos the combination of perfume, BO and cigarettes was a heady one. Have to keep popping in to remind receptionist I'm here. The world really isn't geared up for HG!

elizabethsmum · 12/03/2015 14:47

oh blueberry goodness how awful for you. counting down with you now.

eallison I used to wait outside at my drs surgery as well- couldn't stand stuffy waiting room or fear of public vomming disgraceWink

Hellohellohowareyou · 12/03/2015 15:58

Hi everyone, wow this thread is moving quickly! Reading all our stories makes me realise how little hcp's know about HG still! I think I'd class myself as one of the lucky ones as my gp and boss have been great.
I'm starting to feel much better on the sickness front and am even managing without meds some days. Only trouble is my spd is becoming too much to manage so im going to as to get referred to physio again when I go for my 25 week check next week

DurhamRed · 12/03/2015 19:12

Hi everyone! Just popping in to update and hopefully provide some hope to those currently suffering hg.

Hettie and I are now home from hospital after both of us being given the all clear from the doctors (Hettie suffered low blood sugars due to low birth weight and I suffered from pre-eclamsia...didn't have the smoothest of pregnancies!). Hettie is doing fine and is feeding well and putting on weight. I feel very well and am eating and drinking like there is no tomorrow!! All the foods I couldn't tolerate I am now eating with gusto (Oh how I've missed you chocolate, coffee and biscuits)!!

My nausea disappeared almost instantly Hettie was born, in fact in was given tea and toast within 15 minutes of her birth and ended up having second helpings...it was wonderful to eat again!!

I wanted to let all those suffering that there is light at the end of this very dark tunnel. Not only does the suffering end but the love you have for your baby is just all encompassing and is absolutely wonderful. Keep hanging in there, take each day, hour, minute as it comes, the end result is so very worth it even if it doesn't feel like it at the present (and there were many many moments I wondered if I could carry on).

I also want to say how amazing and supportive this thread was during my worst moments (even my better ones too) and without the support of Lucinda, Meerka, Elizabethsmum and many others, I don't know how I would have carried on...so I sincerely thank you all so very very much Smile

CluelessDil · 12/03/2015 19:22

What a lovely post DurhamRed I needed to read that today. Glad you and your baby are doing so well Flowers

BlueberryWafer · 12/03/2015 19:53

So glad you're feeling better Durham and glad you and your little one are doing so well Smile

I've managed to keep sips of flat lucozade down today, and I forced a banana down (saw it again 20 mins later but baby will have got some goodness from it at least!) and had some soup as we (that didn't stay down either!) 6 days til my due date... Come on baby we're ready to meet you now!

trixy04 · 13/03/2015 01:51

I finally went back to work this monday on short days, been so tired that i haven't logged in to mumsnet in a while. I am back to a single vom a day, eatting normal-ish, keeping down my fluids (mostly), turned 16 weeks !

Feeling chipper, wanted to share that it can pass a bit.

I only have to contend with the nose bleeds and no appetite (now that i can eat again). On the plus side, i bought new mat jeans in a size i've not worn since being a teenager - some diet !!! I put on my first pregnancy weight this week, more importantly - No ketones (whoop!)

BlueberryWafer · 13/03/2015 11:08

Yay for no ketones Trixy Smile

How is everyone doing today? I managed an outing with my toddler to soft play this morning. Took my mum with us so she could keep an eye on him when I had to make a mad dash to be sick...

MeerkaRIPSirTerry · 13/03/2015 14:05

hello lovely to hear the HG is getting better. I hope they can help with the SPD. trixy brave of you to go back to work, at least hopefully now it's all on the up =)

durham so pleased you and Hettie are home now and doing well. Such a relief when it's all over, isn't it? Is she letting you get a little sleep at night?

Do take it easy as you can for a while. HG and preg generally drains the body much more than you think .... you will need time.

blueberry good to hear you're keeping some lucozade down. Amazing you could get to soft play!

< waves to clueless and motherhen and elzi'smum and everyone>

LucindaE · 13/03/2015 14:24

DurhamRed What a lovely message indeed. I'm so happy you and Hettie are doing well, and that the maternal feelings are just as they should be, and that this thread helped you in dark times. Thank you so much for coming on to encourage current sufferers.
BlueberryWafer A banana re-appearing is particularly horrible - thank goodness for that flat lucozade.Well done on making a soft play area -and sorry you had to go off to be sick, though however you did that 'dash' rather than waddle to the loo...I'm still Angry about your treatment at the hospital on your last admission; where they dismissive, ignorant, or what?
Trixy I'm so glad things are (sort of) bearable - as a lot of women think being sick once a day is severe sickness, it shows how ill you were a few weeks ago. I hope work isn't too completely exhausting, do try and take it easy.
Hello I'm so glad to hear that the sickness is on the retreat, but sorry about spd raising its ugly head. That twenty-five week scan should be exciting.
eallison I hope you weren't too cold. I am amazed people would be aggressive enough about smoking to wear smoke smelling clothes to a doctor's surgery.
Waves to elizabethsmum Meerkaand everyone.

It was quite nice sat outside actually. There was a bit of sun! Tues - Thurs were vomit (not nausea) free days. So I was getting cock. That's come back and bit me on the backside today! Decided I'm very glad I'm no working. Union advised to get the sick note and rest up.

Durham, so lovely to hear that motherhood is all its cracked up to be, especially from someone who I know had a particularly bad time - very reassuring!

I find banana to be one of the worst things to bring up!

Hellohellohowareyou · 13/03/2015 18:18

eallison do you mean you were getting cock sure of yourself? Or actually getting cock! Grin Grin

I'm sorry but after a pretty shitty day your comment has really made me laugh so thanks Wink

BlueberryWafer · 13/03/2015 18:21

I don't mind bringing banana up as it tastes similar to when it went down ha! Bread is my worst fear to bring up as it chokes me.

The staff were just rude and dismissive. When admitted I was asked if I was sure I wasn't keeping anything down as that was odd at this late stage...Hmm The nurse turted and sighed every time I rang my buzzer for her to take a dish of vomit away and when my drip started backing up I was left for 2 and a half hours with it like that. The doctor said "I don't know what you really expect us to do at this age stage, we won't be inducing you as the baby is fine" I said have you actually checked my notes? I don't want inducing I need fluids. He looked at my notes and scuttled off back to write me up for various meds and fluids... Idiot.

eallison88 · 13/03/2015 19:27

I think I probably meant cocky! I'm glad I made you laugh tho!

MotherofPearl · 13/03/2015 19:31

Argh, Blueberry, that is unfuriating. I had this problem when suffering. I'd go to midwife appointments in the post-30 week period, they'd ask how I was, and when I said 'still being sick', they always answered in voice of disbelief, 'Still? At this stage?!' And I could tell they simply didn't believe me! Really makes me cross remembering that.

trixy04 · 13/03/2015 22:50

eallison, you made me laugh with tales of 'cock'....!

Survived a week of work, with everyone watching me like a hawk and making me sit down in the tearoom for sips of water. I looked like death warmed up on wednesday as i had 3 nose bleeds (on the way to GP surgery, in the waiting room and finally for the hat-trick, in the midwife appointment). When i finally got to work after seeing the GP too, i was basically sat in the tearoom for another hour. They are being good. I am not going to say it was a bucket of laughs, but it was ok, and it felt good to get out of the lounge, do something and even though i did feeble amounts of work - i got there and they were happy of my effort.

The only down side was that when some people asked how i was and i mentioned i had had very bad morning sickness, they said things like 'well you have to expect a bit of sickness'...... i smiled and went back to work. People don't understand how much HG peeps can actually vomit, the tiredness, the actual feeling of nausea for alot of the day, not a nice discreet vom in the loo before brekkie. They looked at me like i was mad when they 'assumed' i had stopped throwing up, 'no -still doing one or so good old throw ups a day'....!

Chin up all, not saying i am cured, especially as i tossed my guts up whilst sat on the loo this evening, catching it all nicely in my knicks and down the inside of the legs of my jeans..... still got it !!!

LucindaE · 14/03/2015 14:46

ealisson hello and Trixy As I'm Mother Hen, and hens only have vents, what would I know about that, lol...
The ignorance does seem to be shocking. Surely the topic of Hypeemesis, its symptoms, and how to refer should be taught to all midwives! Leaves, clucking, and hoping people are coping.

OP posts:
LucindaE · 14/03/2015 14:47

Lol, that's ignorance about Hyperemesis, not ignorance about vents on hens...

Some of the best medicine... watching the Irish get beat! Now, if England can beat the Scots I might be healed!

elizabethsmum · 14/03/2015 17:42

how lovely durham congratulations again!

glad you are doing better hg wise trixy - I had loads of nosebleeds in pg (but then also had them before)- think violent vomming episodes set them off- one time huge noseblled and puking into loo simultaneously at about 36 wks pg with twins dh panicked and phoned labour suite- midwife said 'the line is a bit echoey'- me 'sorry my head is currently down the loo' ;)

hope you're hanging in there blueberry too true about avoiding things that are even more horrible on what dh would term 'a second viewing'! tinned peaches and bananas definitely least offensive on the throat!

hope everyone surviving- waves to hello, meerka & mother of pearl. lucinda, you will be pleased to know I finally got my eyes tested and got some new glasses- headaches seem much improved! !

elizabethsmum · 14/03/2015 17:44

lol eallison!

MeerkaRIPSirTerry · 14/03/2015 20:01

I misread - or read - that too!

glad you're surviving trixy, really good going getting back to work.

hope everyone is getting through, nearly another day over

LucindaE · 15/03/2015 11:22

elizabethsmum Lol, I am such a noisy puker that midwife would have been deafened by me, let alone an echo chamber. Glad headaches have improved; mine - haven't Sad.
Which poor soul on here was it who was suffering from those awful hormonal early pregnancy headaches? eallison, was it you? #
I'm glad there's a bit of sympathy going around in staff rooms, my goodness, it's needed.
How is everyone today?

Hi everyone hope ur all well!

I had to go back for another hospital stay on Wednesday got home last night, now on better meds so fingers crossed:).
