could someone please explain how mws estimate the weight of the baby?

At 40, 41 & 42 wk checks, all with different mws they felt my bump, asked how much ds was (3.3kgs) and all said, yes id say about the same, possibly a bit less. DD was just short of 4.2! Im not upset by this, but would like to understand how they missed 2lb! Anyone know how they calculate and what could have caused this discrepency?

It's guesswork and even.scans are notoriously.inaccurate, generallly 10% out.

I was told 6lb somehting... Got 9lb plus babies!

A colleague of mine was told her baby was going to be 10lbs+ for a good while before birth & baby was 8lbs

It's an estimate. My dd born today at 30weeks weighs 2lb 11oz, however two weeks ago at her growth scan I was told she was 2lb14oz then!

They just pluck a number at random in my experience. I was told baby would be at least 9lbs. I'm sure they looked at me and thought 'she's fat, she's bound to have a whopper.'

He was 6lbs 8oz.

My sil was told hers would be 10lb whoppers, lots of threats of early induction. Her biggest was 6.5lbs born on her due date. It is all bollocks.

I knew ds felt smaller than his 7lb 12oz big sister due to his movements and activity. Consultant thought he was much bigger. Enormous was the phrase he used. 6lbs 13oz he was. Gigantic.

My tummy always measured smack bang on so I was looking at a 8lb baby.... My DD was born 2 weeks ago weighing 6lb1oz!! .... It was all water!!

Ds1 was predicted as being over 9lb but when he arrived he was 6lb 13oz! However my mw got ds2 exactly right at 7lb 5oz

All guess work I think ! I had a scan at 36 weeks and told he was 4lb ... 4 weeks later he arrived at 10lb 9 oz ! No way hD he grown that much !!
