Interesting graph showing when 1st time mums go into labour

Hey everyone,

I'm 39 weeks today and naturally getting very uncomfortable and bored with being pregnant now! I was googling to see the average time 1st time mums give birth as I thought most go overdue, but the chart seems to show otherwise....

With my first I went into labour at exactly 39 weeks... Good luck.

My 1st time I was 3 days early , my 2nd 4 days early . At the moment I am 39 wks so hoping this one will follow suit ! x

I'm not sure about that graph TBH. I've heard that it averages out around about 40 weeks.

Does that graph exclude all the babies who are premature? It doesn't seem to. And because of the nature of the length of a pregnancy and because of the induction policy of most hopsitals, there won't be balancing 'very over' stats to bring the average down.

I guess what I am saying is that the stat might be true overall, but I'm not sure it tells you much once you've reached term about how likely you are to be early or late.

Interesting. 25 % of FTMs have their babies by 39 weeks, 50% by 40 weeks. That means half of FTMs have their babies overdue.

Well! I had my baby boy! 4 days early! But this was the original due date they gave us so maybe he was bang on?!

DS was a surprise arrival at 36+2. I was so convinced we would have another 3+ weeks to go I hadn't started maternity leave OR packed a hospital bag.

Well I'm due on Tuesday and still no sign of my baby! Grrrr!! Will be interesting to see how accurate the chart is x

Cherry - it is a distribution. It doesn't predict anything about when one individual will deliver. Hang in there

36 weeks for DD1. No reason, although I was extremely low on fluid.
35 + 3 for DD2. Again, no medical reason for going in to labour early.

Bang on for me, 39w +5d.

It says it's the same for 2nd babies and I hope so, I'm 37w tomorrow and would hate to go over.

39+5 is exactly a week away...stares

Hmmm...my mw told me most first time mums go a week over due in her experience! DS was 40+6 and DD was 40+4, both spontaneous labours. I found it better to think I was going to be 12 days late as the waiting gets annoying!

My first was at 38+6.

I may have given him a helping hand by literally doing ALL the old wives tales in 24 hours.

The night before we dtd and went on a 1 hour walk and had a vindaloo. The next morning I had half a fresh pineapple and some castor oil.

My waters broke that afternoon.

I had a curry last night and two cups of raspberry tea and nothing today going for a walk in the park and hot chocolate with marshmallows is on the cards but I reckon I will go overdue!
