C Section, how long did your DP take off work?

Hi all

How long did your DP take off work after your C Section?

I thought 2 weeks paternity leave plus 1 week annual leave would suffice but someone told us today that they took 5 weeks off work. Just wondered what was the norm.

Thanks xx

DH took two weeks paternity, then worked four-day weeks for another month or so. My parents came up for the third week which was really useful, especially as it was DH's first week back at work.

Good luck! You'll be fine :)

He took the two weeks paternity leave, then went back for a week, then took two weeks of holiday when our daughter came out if hospital.

I would guess 2 weeks is the norm in the uk because of the paternity leave entitlement. Is this your 1st DC? It's far easier if you aren't having to chase after toddlers also just because you can't phyiscally lift them for a while (although I had a straightforward 2nd CS and was able to pick up 1yr old Dc not too long after 2 weeks). 5 weeks sounds a long time unless there are complications.

Three weeks here, as Xmas gave us another week, and was perfect. Will hopefully do the same this time.
Mind you, I came down with raging, hallucinating mastitis at 11pm the night before DP was due back, just to show Sod's Law can strike in any circumstances!

He took 2 weeks but he works flexi time so he just went in for short days for a couple of weeks after that, also it was Easter so there were a few bank holidays etc.

2 weeks for both children

Had play school run to do when I had number 3 but that was it

Both elective so I recovered quite quickly

theonewiththenoisychild · 03/02/2015 10:05

for an elective 3 weeks will be fine. i think an emergency c section 5 weeks would have been better. oh asked his 16 yo niece to come round and help out for a few weeks until i found my feet after my emergency c section Blush i didnt really like feeling i was being babysat when i was a adult with a baby of my own

Number3cometome · 03/02/2015 10:06

Had baby on the Friday, ex (yep!) went back to work on the Monday.
Both times.

This time OH is a teacher, baby is due July - 6 weeks off (hopefully I won't get peed off with him during that time) Grin

Ludways · 03/02/2015 10:22

2 weeks both times, 3 will be fine.

TinyMonkey · 03/02/2015 13:41

Two weeks, it was fine. I had a mild infection as well, but as long as you keep on top of your pain relief you'll be ok.

lancaster · 03/02/2015 13:44

2 weeks, was fine

wawabear · 03/02/2015 13:45

Thanks everyone for your posts.

Just wanted to make sure we weren't being over cautious or over ambitious but it looks like we'll have it covered.

I know it's a totally different ball game but I healed really quickly after appendix surgery so I am hoping for a repeat!

None, our twins were in special care so he saved his one weeks paternity leave until they were discharged.

mayfridaycomequickly · 03/02/2015 13:52

Same as never ds was in nicu so dp saved his paternity leave till he came home.

Mrsteddyruxpin · 03/02/2015 14:02

Three with dc1 and just over four with dc2 (14 months later)

You will find three ok just make sure to do online shop etc

LovelyWeatherForDucks · 03/02/2015 14:12

DH took 2 full weeks off, then worked at home 2 days a week for another two or three weeks so he could ferry me around until I was up to driving / walking into town. Worked well.

ThatBloodyWoman · 03/02/2015 14:15

2 weeks with the first, none with the second (not through choice)
With the second I re-opened the wound and got an infection....

Cockadoodledooo · 03/02/2015 20:59

Two weeks paternity leave with ds1. With ds2 he went back to college 200 miles away after a week (we were lucky it was that long!). For both we were bailed out by my lovely dmum who came to stay to look after us.

elliejjtiny · 03/02/2015 21:19

With DS4, DH took 2 weeks paternity, then PIL took a week (fully paid!) compassionate leave each. Then DH had 2 weeks holiday that he'd booked anyway. DS4 has multiple health conditions and was in NICU for a month.

With DS5 my womb ruptured and I was in hospital for 8 days after the birth. DH took 2 days unpaid parental leave, 2 weeks paternity and then PIL took a week each. DH had a week pre booked holiday and then I was on my own.
