I am 9 weeks and suffering really bad with nausea. I feel sick all day, every day and it's really getting me down. After talking to a friend she mentioned that lucozade can help nausea . I have had some today and feel better than I have in weeks. So 2 questions is it ok to drink? And I had gestational diabetes in my previous pregnancy, am I just asking for trouble if I start drinking lucozade every day x

i drank it when i was pregnant, googled first and found something that said it was ok. might be worth checking with a midwife though. not sure if it would affect gestational diabetes.

I drank coke, lemonade and lucozade only during both of my pregnancies as I could not keep anything else down. I didn't get g/diabetes.

I drank it, found it really helped my sickness!!

I was at first worried about caffeine and looked it up just in case and the content wasn't that high.

At 9weeks you should be fine but if you are at risk of gd you might want to try cutting it out by the end of second trimester, you might not be having any nausea by then anyway so might not need it as much. If it wasn't for risk of gd I would say drink away.

I will stop drinking it as soon as the nausea subsides as the calories in it are horrific!!! Lol

I don't think Lucozade is recommended as it's an energy drink and can have an affect on the baby- probably similar to that of lots of caffeine which is obviously not recommended. The only time I've heard it be suggested during pregnancy is if you feel reduced movement or during labour. If you have nausea could you stomach anything like a slice of lemon in hot water? I couldn't bare the taste of plain water when I was sick of felt 'yucky' but found a slice of lemon in water cut through the sicky feeling. Got through a tonne of lemons early on!

Also, if you're actually being sick or have diarrhea Lucozade is not recommended as it replaces the water your body needs as you become dehydrated. I've heard a lot of women drinking flat full fat coke and say that helps, but it's all in moderation I guess. I would assume that Lucozade is worse than fizzy drinks but not too sure? Hope you start to feel better soon Smile

Your diet can't give you GD. Lucozade is just a sugary drink, as much caffeine as a cup of tea. It's fine.

ILiveOnABuildsite · 01/02/2015 22:55

Your diet can't give you gd but the op had gd with her first so she is at a much higher risk of having gd in this pregnancy. If she does develop gd (probably much later in pregnancy) drinking lucozade after the diagnosis would be a bad idea. I'm sure the op knows this already, so not having a go at op here just explaining why I said she shouldn't drink it after a gd diagnosis or later in pregnancy when her body is likely to not process sugars as well because of early onset of gd.

mum2benicole · 02/02/2015 08:16

My midwife recommend it to me to help my sugar levels and because I needed a little pick me up to get through the days im 25 weeks and have 17month old its OK if you have the smaller bottle a day or every other not the big one xx

shinjuku09 · 03/02/2015 10:07

It's fine if you don't go overboard. It's not designed to replace fluid loss but can help boost your energy levels

Cornberry · 03/02/2015 10:34

You could also alternate with fizzy water? I can't drink normal water but carbonated water goes down much better for some reason.

BumWad · 03/02/2015 10:43

I drink it quite a bit in my first trimester. It was the only thing that got me going.

BumWad · 03/02/2015 10:43

*drunk

WilsonWilsonWoman · 03/02/2015 11:07

I drank it by the gallon in early pregnancy both times. Absolutely fine.

Apart from the fact your teeth are more prone to decay (so brush them after?) no issues. Smile
