im 40+3 and had a sweep today at my mw appointment and I think it went well ( she said it was successful) but to be honest I was really nervous about having the sweep ( which was pretty uncomfortable but not as bad as I thought it would be) so I didn't really take anything she said in! On my notes it says cervix anterior, firm, 1-2cm long 1-2cm dilated. And I had a bit of blood loss which she seemed pleased about?! Does anyone know if this means I'm getting close? I'm getting so excited and impatient and I've been getting lots if braxton hicks and twinges.

Still how long is a ball of string territory. Fortunately, at 40+3, it won't be too much longer regardless! Sounds like you're moving in the right direction but no way of knowing if you're looking at hours or days.

Is it your first? They are looking for your cervix to be soft, anterior, short and dilated. So you're starting to tick off some of the boxes.

BTW, when my waters broke with ds, my cervix was in pretty much exactly the same state. Anterior, 1cm long, 2cm dilated. And I was having proper contractions at that point!

Ooh that's exciting! I'm just so naturally impatient! Yes it is my first , I can handle waiting for days just hoping I don't have to induced as I'll be so over excited by that point I'll be bouncing off the walls .

I had 3 sweeps, all were apparently 'successful' - the third seemed to do the job, and contractions started the same evening.

Fingers crossed for you'

Even more exciting if it's your first. In subsequent pregnancies the cervix is often slightly open already. 1-2cm dilated in your first pregnancy is much more indicative of progress. With my first I was 1-2cm at 11am and fully dilated at 2pm (and she was finally born at nearly 10pm ).

With my 2nd I was 1 cm dilated at my sweep at 40weeks and still the same at 41weeks. I had another that day, she said I was just female and no way baby was coming. That was at 2.30pm and my little girl was born that evening at 7.10pm.
Sounds like it's all going the right way for you. It's so exciting, congratulations xxx

It was good news as I gave birth to a baby girl very early on Sunday morning! On Saturday at 6pm I was only 1cm and by 11 I was fully dilated!

Awwww well done Naomi! How was the birth?

Wishing you all the best!
Can't wait for my day to come now. Smile

It was intense, scary and amazing ,I was expecting to be in labour for a long time but I was so oddly calm ( I think maybe I couldn't believe it was happening) that things happened quickly ( I wasn't that calm when avtv e labour started) .the actual birth was amazing; in a pool, at midnight with Nick drake playing. My advice would be keep repeating to yourself. ( or get your Birth partner to) ' I can do this!' .and get a sweep! Good luck!
