NCT Essentials classes

Hi everyone!

I was wondering if anyone has done the new NCT Essentials classes rather than the usual Signature ones? I'm leaning towards signing up for them but only if they're worth it.

My main motivation for doing them would be for my husband to get the basic info (he currently knows almost nothing about pregnancy, birth, or child care) and to meet other mums. We are also planning to do a hypnobirthing course so I'm not too worried about the fact that they don't cover the birth as much.

Also does anyone know if the groups are bigger than the Signature classes?

We did those ones as that was all that was offered in our area, I'm glad that we did those as I think maybe the other courses seem a bit long winded? The only criticism I would have is that there was quite a lot of focus on the birth and not so much on parenting but I think each individual course is different. If you're doing a hypno birthing course as well though I think you'll be fine with the essentials

Hi, you will get all that for free at the nhs ante natal classes, meet plenty other mums to be and it will be qualified midwives giving the talks rather than unqualified people who not work delivering babies. Nhs also do post natal group where I am run by health visitors which is well worth going to to see your mum pals from ante natal!

I didn't go to NCT as there weren't classes local to us but the NHS ones were great -3 x2 hour sessions and good coverage but also keen for us to ask/discuss things. Also they are run by the community midwives so they'll be the ones we'll see before/after birth and one of them worked in the hospital for a while so knows about that side too.

Perhaps worth asking your MW what's available to you.
