Is salad cream safe to eat?

Hi,
I was at a restaurant yesterday and with my food ordered mayo or salad cream. The person I was with was horrified and told me I shouldnt be eating them. Ive checked on the hellmans mayo jar and it says 'made with pasturised eggs' so I think thats ok. Ive checked salad cream and it says it contains egg yolks but not if they are pasturised. Does anyone know if they are both safe to eat?

Thanks

YES! it's only fresh mayo that is possibly worth avoiding as it has uncooked eggs in it. BUt I doubt it was fresh - as for salad cream well that's the first time I've heard that.

I hope so - I love the stuff and have been eating it throughout!

I know it is easier said than done but try not to worry, it is all going to over and done with pretty soon - thank goodness!

yes Heinz and Hellmans perfectly safe to eat both made from pasteurised eggs.

Only time I would query it is in restaurants where they are making the mayonnaise from scratch using unpasteurised eggs.

Personally I would still eat it because all hens in Britain have to be vaccinated against Salmonella so the risk is minute these days.

Oh I'm a food safety expert as well or wouldn't comment!
