Eeek twins getting induced tomorrow!!

Just that really! I've to go in at 9.30pm tomorrow night to get our twin boys induced. I will be 37+5. Eeeeek. Scared and excited in equal measure. It's suddenly got very real! What should I expect from a twin inducement? No horror stories please, this is my first and last pregnancy and I'm very awfully emotional about the whole thing!

Hi ninja, goodness me, how has it come round so soon?

I had a scan today, both babies now growing as much as they would have expected! Yikes, they've brought me back and will be induced 8:30 am on Sunday! I'm not ready! I had my first steriod injection today (35+5), going back tomorrow for the second.

I'm scared to.

I hope all goes well for you, will you be choosing the epidural? I had my first taste of those tummy heart rate monitors today, they are very temperamental! I intend to be as mobile as possible in the one square metre that the tummy monitor leads can stretch to until the epidural is sited.

No twin induction stories but I have been induced at 38 weeks for 3 dc.

Expect it to be slow at first, take something to do and adjust expectations to some waiting around and a slow start (especially if they use the pessary not the gel).

Then when it gets going, it's labour. Some people say its a bit more full on but I obviously have no idea! My one bit of advice to myself with my first induction would be to keep being brave, after a strong reaction to the gel I got very worried about the drip and wanted an epidural before it even went on. Actually the drip was fine (as I found out with dc2 and 3).

My general labour advice would be to read up about transition beforehand and try to recognize when you are in it.

I had an ELCS due to their positions, so have no advice on induction but wanted to wish you well. Accept any help that is offered to you, and don't be too hard on yourself. It will be hard, but it will get easier, every day. My girls are 17 months this week and those early days are like a blur, but you will get through them.

I was induced with my twins 12 weeks ago. The process is pretty similar to the regular inductions you read about here but hopefully you'll be starting to dilate so they can go ahead and break your waters (not painful) without bothering with the pessary.

The labour room will be the size of a barn and you'll meet all you delivery team but it'll just be the midwife that stays with you until you start pushing, when everyone else will come in to gawp as a twin birth is so special :-)

Once baby one arrives they'll turn up the drip to keep the contractions going. A midwife will probably hold twin two in place with her hands on your belly whilst they wait for your next contraction to push the baby down and out.

My twins went into a 'hot cot' on the ward with me for 24hrs to make sure they can regulate their body temp but that was only because they were below 37 weeks (36.5weeks).

Oh scenic I can't wait to lie on my tummy again! That and see my feet. Today I found stretch marks on my feet from all the swelling. Gadzooks!
I'm glad your babies are growing as expected. Are they moreorless the same size or is there a big difference? I've managed to avoid the steroid injections and hopefully the babies won't need scbu since they're nearly 38 weeks. Can't believe I've made it this far. You'll be feeling as exhausted as me no doubt!
Those tummy monitors can be very temperamental, throughout our babies' heartbeats have been very similar so it's always taken ages to distinguish between them!
I'm hoping for a mobile epidural so I can still have some movement and not be confined to the bed. Hoping not to have pethidine as I want my head to be as clear as possible.

Aww good luck Hun. I'm sure you'll do great. I've been induced before at 38wks 1st child and found the experience easy. Giving birth is the most amazing, overwhelming thing you'll ever experience, I love the Euphoric feeling afterwards and you will have it Double! Wishing you all the best. :)

I've never heard of mobile epidurals before!! I must look into this! That was an autocorrect mistake on my last post, found out today the babies are NOT growing as expected, one has just tipped below the ideal weight markers. Not drastic, but it means it's all happening much quicker than the planned care. I'm ok about it (is it bad that I'm slightly releived to be giving birth to smaller babies?- probably! Tut tut)

I was induced at 38 +4 after 2 sweeps with no effect at all! Midwife broke my waters, minimal discomfort there. I walked around a bit to get things going but nothing! Then commenced drugs to start contractions. They are fairly intense suddenly but covered by gas and air. Midwife put ctg band round my tummy to monitor twin 2 and scalp monitor on twin one who's head was very low. At 6 centimetres I asked for epidural and then it was dead easy, sat and chatted, had a doze. When I got to 10 cm they moved me to a room with two resuscitaires in. When it was time to push a Dr came in and there were two Drs for the babies. I had to have a ventouse. My little girl came out and wrapped in a towel I had a beautiful cuddle with her. little boy was born 20 mins later, same method. Lovely cuddle my husband and the midwife dressed the babies while I had a cuppa! Drs all offered congratulations and then left, an amazing experience. Enjoy your last sleep as not quite a mummy! Xx

Ha ha, I haven't enjoyed sleep for weeks now!! I know what you mean though! Slippermaiden, how long were you from starting induction to the babies being in your arms?

Well the midwife probably didn't start the drugs til about 11ish. They were born at 2300 and 2320 hours. It was 7 years ago, so I'm not sure of times. I know my midwife went for lunch just as the contractions really got going.
