I am currently struggling with how to sleep in the 3rd trimester any advice I try sleeping on the left with pillows around me but my back aches waking me up.
I just can not for the life of me get comfortable at all!!

This will sound crazy but (it was the only way I could sleep towards the end) have you tried sitting up? I found having a load of cushions propping me up was the most comfortable.

Hope you find a way to be more comfortableThanks

Pillow between your knees & also one to support your bump. Even then a change of position will be needed every few hours. I could never feel rested if I slept sitting up, so I somehow tried everything I could to stay flat on my bed until the last night. It's hard, but the rest is necessary.

Usually the back hurts if the bump is not well supported, the hips hurt if the knees are not well supported. Try both.

I've got a v shaped pillow and I have one bit between my legs and sort of hug the other bit!

On my front with DS till the day I had him Grin

This time I sleep on my side otherwise I feel sick

So glad someone else sleeps on their front WrappedInABlankie!

My friends keep telling me its really bad but wow do I sleep well when on my front. I have always preferred this position and I keep waking up on my front. I'm now 40 weeks and have a pillow to keep me on my side but it doesn't work I just wriggle around until I assume the position again!

skyra13 · 27/01/2015 06:33

I already sleep with pillow between legs to support self as I have to due to back ache when sleeping when before pregnancy, I slept kind of propped up last night in the corner slightly turned either side an slept right through did not even get up to wee yay!!

Everyone would tell me Id "squash" DS but every midwife/consultant/doctor I saw told me I'd be uncomfortable way before I squashed DS lol. The nurse actually woke me up in hospital at 41+5 to tell me I was asleep on my front Confused wasn't impressed in the slightest Hmm

Looking at this thread from the pregnancy page it reads 'How do you sleep? WrappedInABlankie'

Aaaand now I've ruined it.

DP got me a Dream Genii for Christmas which is basically a big bendy pillow that supports your back, bump and knees all at once. It is really comfy. I'm still not sleeping much, but I am at least lying awake feeling very comfortable.

At the beginning of my 3rd trimester I slept on my side with a pillow going between my ankles and knees, another behind my back and a hand towel folded up under my belly.

but the last 2 weeks (I'm 38 weeks) I've been sleeping sat up lots of pillows around me and a towel under my books (they are really leaky, sorry tmi)

Boy do I miss sleeping on my front!! Only ever slept on my front and occasionally on my back before being pregnant, never on my sides...so this 'left or right side only' is driving me potty!

I don't know about anyone else but I find I get shooting pains in my stomach when I try to change sides during the night...that and the feeling that I'm about to piss myself if I don't get up quick enough to empty my constantly-full bladder!

I find my left side is most comfortable at the moment. After trying being propped up with numerous pillows and a v-pillow wedged in every possible crevice I've found that actually just having 2 pillows flat as they were pre-pregnancy is helping me to have the most comfortable night's sleep. So basically just sleeping as I did before, just on my left side.

I got loads of pillows and blankets in bed. I usually make a roll out of one blanket and have that between my legs. When its time to turn around I pretend to pull up my belly button to tighten what is left of my stomach muscles and then hold the belly with my hand / arm while turning over.
Find it easiest though to change sides when coming back from one of hte lovely nighttime toilet pitstops.
I know they say you should sleep on the left but most nights I find the right more comfortable so I go by what feels right at the time. I just put another pillow around / slightly under the belly to make sure I dont roll onto it at night. Am programmed to sleep on my belly but have this paranoia in my head of squashing my bump.
