Eclampsia

Hi,
Has anyone actually had eclampsia with seizures? I feel like the only person on the earth to have had it. I'm pregnant with DC3 and wondered what your experiences were with further pregnancies. Anyone?

Hi number3. I had eclampsia with my first ds who will be 10 this year. My second ds is 6 soon and I had no trouble at all during the pregnancy. I am currently 11 weeks with my third and midwife had already said I am low risk.

With ds1 I was reduced because of pre-eclampsia and my blood pressure returned to normal. 3 days later it shot up again and I was admitted to hospital with seizures. I was out into an induced coma and spent 2 days in intensive care. I was moved to a ward to rest for a few days once I was brought out of season and once my blood pressure improved.

I will never forget it. It was absolutely awful and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I ask sorry you have experienced eclampsia too. Was it while you were still pregnant?

I feel positive that it won't happen again because ds2 was fine and I was fine carrying him.

Ha that's ok! Mine was whilst I was in labour, no signs just totally out of the blue. I was pushing then started feeling my arm twitch, I started hitting myself in the face but couldn't understand why and then went in to full seizures. Woke up in intensive care, baby was born by emergency section under a general. I couldn't remember anything the next morning, someone come round and explained. I was put on magnesium sulphate and wasnt allowed more than a cap full of water an hour. I was totally confused and upset. My ds was fine but due to the lack of oxygen was SEN until he was 8. He still has minor gross motor issues but nothing anyone would notice. He is incredibly bright and I was told we were both incredibly lucky to survive. I was left with a permanent issue with a thickening in a valve and now have permanent high blood pressure. I got pre eclampsia again with Dd and was treated at Kings college with 3 weekly scans through my pregnancy until it got too much and she was born safy by csection at 38 weeks.
I am 15+2 now, on aspirin and have swapped my usual beta blockers for methyl dopa. So far so good! New partner so extra nervous. I am high risk so once again consultant only. Have had two scans so far and will be having another csections.

My goodness. Sounds like you have had an awful time as well. I was lucky in that my baby was delivered safely and he wasn't in danger. Still scares me how close I was to not making it.
Good luck with this pregnancy, I hope it goes smoothly for you.

Fingers crossed for some seizure-free pregnancies!!
