Hi everybody,

Just a post to try and put my mind at rest a little, I'm 18w2d and its nearly my 20week scan but as I took the antibiotic Metronidazole before I knew i was pregnant around 3-4 weeks im starting to stress that it may have harmed my baby and im getting so nervous about the scan.

Anyone have any experience of this?

Thank you

There is no evidence of metronidazole causing any increased risk in pregnancy. link to some studies here if you want to read more: www.motherisk.org/prof/updatesDetail.jsp?content_id=328

It would have probably been more risky to the pregnancy to leave the infection untreated, especially if it was for something like bacterial vaginosis etc.
Best wishes for your scan, I'm sure you are going to be ok!

Anything toxic prior to 4 weeks / missed period results in miscarriage so if anything seriously affected your baby the pregnancy just wouldn't have proceeded. I took Valium, Propranolol and had an MRI at 3-4 weeks and my doc was just not at all bothered!
