Are you sure? the ones i've seen don't contain Liver.

Behooven · 24/01/2015 18:58

Liver, lung, heart and kidney isn't unusual. How could you resist?

The veggie one is tasty without the offal.

Littlemissjt · 24/01/2015 19:06

Ops! I had some on Monday! Hmm

minipie · 24/01/2015 19:08

A little bit of liver isn't really an issue. the danger with liver is the amount of vitamin A it contains (rather than infection risk as for pate, mould rinded cheese or rare meat) so the tiny amount you'd have in one portion of haggis really shouldn't do any harm.

weeblueberry · 24/01/2015 19:57

MacSweens haggis doesn't have liver in so you're good to go if you can find that :)

JennyBlueWren · 24/01/2015 20:01

You can't eat liver but haggis is mostly oatmeal and fat rather than offal and of that offal it's not all liver!

Eat it! The neeps'll be good for you too.

MuddyWellyNelly · 24/01/2015 20:05

I actually prefer veggie haggis, but I doubt a single Burns supper would be enough to make a difference.

FannyFifer · 24/01/2015 20:07

I love haggis & def ate it while pregnant, in fact I was speaking at a Burns supper when I was pregnant last time.

Stillyummy · 24/01/2015 20:31

The haggis we brought is 20% liver. Good thing DH checked before he cooked it. I had a vedgy burger instead.

Really? We have ours all set for tomorrow and I'm sure I ate it last time too...

weeblueberry · 25/01/2015 10:14

You're fine with haggis unless it's loupin with liver. Honest. Wink

sianihedgehog · 25/01/2015 10:40

This definitely falls into my "THERE ARE LIMITS" category so far as things I "shouldn't eat". A little bit of liver is no danger, it's the risk of getting way too much vitamin A that puts it onto the banned list. Like fuck am I not eating a Burns night haggis just because it could have up to 20% liver - THERE ARE LIMITS.

I'm not going to binge eat half a kilo of liver while pregnant, but unless I'm getting a ton of vitamin A from other sources there's no risk in a serving of haggis.

Zsazsabinks · 25/01/2015 10:51

Oh eff that, I love Burns night and my older children too.

I'm sure that a little bit of haggis that could potentially have some liver in it isn't going to hurt. That's just crazy.
