8 weeks. Struggling to keep down water and have lost 8lbs. Will my midwife admit me to hospital? I feel like I'm being a whinge but I'm worried.

She should check your ketones bair (very simple - she just uses a dipstick to check your urine). If they are raised then she may suggest you either see your GP (if raised but low) or go directly to the hospital (if they are high). If you are not managing to consume/retain much or any food or liquid then you will start producing ketones sooner or later. There are plenty of medication options so even if your midwife is not helpful, I would suggest you see a GP. For most women around 8-10 weeks is the absolute worst bit, if that's any comfort. Come and find the hyperemesis support thread!

I'd go to the gp and try meds first. I lost about 10lb, unless you are underweight they are unlikely to be terribly worried about the weight. The main thing is fluids

also for me personally 8 weeks was the very worst time....

My GP is an arsehole. I'm going to keep trying with fluids and see how I go. Midwife isn't around today as she's in EPAS so I'd have to go to hospital to get checked anyway.

Thanks all Flowers

I'd also suggest buying some sticks to test your urine at home too. I've been in hospital twice so far as I had ketones in urine and was so dehydrated. The thought of having to stay in hospital is horrible but you will feel so much better for it!

The fact that I'm not actually throwing up a whole lot has made me worry that I'm just being a wimp but honestly, if you're struggling, there is help available. Hope you feel better soon :)

My GPs are also terrible as well. The first one I saw told me I wasn't dehydrated and to eat ginger biscuits, the next day I was taken into hospital as I was seriously dehydrated.

The second one told me I had ketones in my urine and to get some fresh air. Later that day I was taken into hospital again with dehydration. I've found the doctors at the hospital a lot more understanding and helpful!

Weights only a concern really if you lose 10% if your pre pregnancy weight.

Just read the NICE guidelines from another thread, coupled with the advice on here I'm going to EPU tomorrow (will ring first). I've lost 5% of my body weight, struggling with fluid and managed half a bread roll today. Going to ask for ketones test and some anti sickness meds. Apparently as I've had previous HG they'll be keen to start me before 12 weeks on the meds. Jut got to get through tonight.
