I would like to do a paediatric first aid course and I don't know if I am Iooking in the wrong place but I can only find ones aimed at people doing an NVQ. Has anyone taken these courses and if so where did you find them? I would like one that dh and I can attend as parents to he rather than professionals. Thanks!

We did a British Red Cross one, it covered children and infant first aid. The class was mainly parents to be. I thought it was excellent and highly recommend. Check out their website for classes they seem to have them all over.

I did one through the NCT. It was just a single evening class (lasted about 3 hours) and focused mainly on cpr and choking but I'm pretty sure that's because she asked what we wanted to focus on and that's what we said.

Worth keeping an eye on the local NCT site? Or st johns or Red Cross might run them.

We did a Red Cross one as well, was about £50 each for a day's course.

Our local Sure Start run them but they "tour" the centres so only come around twice a year and book up pretty quickly. We did some baby first aid as part of a Mums and Babies group at my local medical practice that was run by the hv team. They also did things like dental health, weaning, sleep etc.

There is a mumsnet thread for people who reviewed the British Cross course here:

Thanks for the link to the thread Lauren. I will be definitely be doing this, prioritising it over ante natal classes TBH. For those of you considering it how far pregnant will you be? I don't want to do it too early (currently 16wks) in case I forget it :)

Red Cross

Also download their amazing app for baby & child first aid. Covers all the stuff on the course. The course also allows you to practice on dummies.

Practising on the dummies is invaluable. I didn't expect to have to push so hard, and the baby dummy made me feel quite emotional when we had to go through the resuscitation routine.
The Red Cross should be able to help.

Thanks for the suggestions! I am 21 weeks Beno and will probably look to do it in a month or so.
