Its my first pregnancy, currently only 11wks. Just wondering when I should start the fight against stretch marks? Everything i have read has said there is no proof of anything actually working but I can still try!

So, what is best to use and when to start using?

(am currently using up a body shop body butter on boobs bum tummy thighs, to get into the habit)

I would start as soon as possible and be prepared for it not to make any difference Grin

Can't hurt to try, I think it is largely genetic, some people get lots of strech marks, others don't.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Yup, be prepared for it not to work!

I used palmers stretch mark butter religiously from 12 weeks, switched to bepanthem stretch mark cream a bit later (that I was testing for Emma's Diary!) and I still have what my OH calls 'my flames'.

Still do it, but only because it feels good rubbing cream into a big bump :) 33 weeks now!

The stretching for stretch marks happens really deep down, so a cream put on the surface isn't going to do anything because it just won't get there, sorry! It's mostly genetic - some people have more elastic skin than others, but even if you don't think your skin is very elastic then don't give up hope - I got a host of stretch marks when I went through puberty (!) so thought it was a sure fire thing for me in pg, but actually I only got a couple of little ones the first time around.

However, it's great to do the creams if you just want to keep moisturised, and a nice time out ritual and focus time for you and baby.

I stared using creams really early in, probably 8 weeks, I'm now 39 and was stretch mark free until about 2 weeks ago! I think though if your going to get them there's not alot you can do about it, just keep hydrated with lots of water and use creams if you feel it helps - I usually moisturise body daily anyway so just witches to creams for stretch marks to do that
