Have had pretty severe piles on and off during this pregnancy. It is my second pregnancy. During this pregnancy The first time they weren't itchy and went with cream. But I ve had them twice more and last time they were horrible. They kept me awake for a along period of time as they were sore and itchy and I made the mistake of itching them too much so they became inflamed. I know this is caused by constipation but admit I have been sporadic in drinking lots of water and the taking laxatives I got from the chemist ( these are the safe ones for pregnancy) they never actually completely went but we're not giving me any problems so I did get very bad at lacking the laxatives and putting on the cream as it seemed I could never get rid of them completely no matter what I did.

Anyway, tonight they have come back and are incrediably itchy and sore. I am 4 weeks of my due date and worried now. I just want rid of them as last time I went into labour with them and by pushing made them 100 times worse. So much so I could hardly sit down after having ds. I do not want to be in that position again.

Hubby reckons I should go to the doctor but I don't feel there's any point as they won't be able to give me anything as I am pregnant. I also think because I am so far into the pregnancy I wouldn't want to take anything that maybe harmful to the baby.

I ve spoken to the midwife who has suggested the laxatives and cream that I am already taking. She has prescribed me iron tablets which I know are meant to make constipation worse and I think it has got worse as recently I have been taking these more regularly. So is it a choice of putting up with it, carrying on with cream etc and not taking iron tablets so feeling weak or going to the doctor?

Is there anything else I can do? Will the doctor actually give me anything anyway?

I know how you feel- I had them with my DD and after labour they were horrendous. I've got them this pregnancy too and know I'm going to be in the same sorry state after labour again. Like you I could hardly sit for weeks- even the midwife said they were the worst she's ever seen!

I went to Gp whiskey pregnant and got an ointment called proctoseyl ( or something similar spelling wise). It has a steroid in it but was prescribed it fine. Tbh it didn't really help but that's because I have them so bad hey often get thrombosed.

Go to the GP- it's worth asking. Good luck though- I hope they get better for you!
