Hi just looking for advice. I'm 5 weeks (exactly) pregnant following a miscarriage three months ago. I started with the most painful headache I've ever had yesterday and still have it now. It's worse when I move around but is pretty constant. Is it normal? Can I take paracetamol? So worried about another mc (have had two plus one ss) I don't want to risk anything but this pain is killing me!

Maybe high blood pressure?

Have you got the 111 service where you are?
If so, maybe give them a ring and see what they suggest?

Jadeykinz · 14/01/2015 17:27

I'd give your doctor a ring just to make sure but I'm pretty sure you can take paracetamol. Worth speaking to the docs with your headache anyway, too early for signs of preeclampsia but just be on the safe side :)

Thanks for the quick reply snowlondon do you think they'd think I was wasting their time? What with it just being a headache.

Hi, when pg with #3 I had the worst headache EVER I was about 6 weeks.

After much googling from DH as couldn't stare at the screen and talking to GP on the phone it was diagnosed as a migraine which I was told are common in PG. was in bed for 3 days.

Avoided caffeine and chocolate and also oranges as I realised that was the trigger....the oranges. It did wear off and never returned. Hopefully it will for you very soon too.

Minnie74 · 14/01/2015 17:31

Thanks jadeykins I'll give them a ring x

Paracetamol is safe to take. Try that first.
Make sure you are drinking enough water as well.

Hope you feel better soon and congrats Flowers

Minnie74 · 14/01/2015 17:38

iwonderif it's awful isn't it? I don't really get headaches so am not enjoying it! Can't really have time off as my boss is awful but I'll see how I go tomorrow. Thanks for the advice.

Thanks comeagainforbigfudge terrified I'll do something which will cause another miscarriage. Between 5 and 6 weeks was the time I've had both previous mcs. Thanks x

I had migraines from beginning of pregnancy until about 17w. Found online it might be related to dehydration. And I was drinking very little, almost no water. Increased my water intake-trying for 10 cups a day and all headaches dissapeared and did not come back.

NeedaDiscoNap · 14/01/2015 18:12

I had migraines when I was preg so I feel your pain - literally! Paracetamol is all you can take but I found rest helped. They can be due to hormonal changes in early pregnancy so hopefully they'll go once you're a bit further on.

seaoflove · 14/01/2015 18:17

It's probably hormonal. I get horrible hormonal headaches, both premenstrually and in pregnancy.

You can take paracetamol.

SnowLondon · 14/01/2015 19:42

Just ring them

sleepybee · 14/01/2015 20:01

Hormone headaches really suck Confused paracetamol is ok. I also use Vicks melted in hot water & I breathe in the steam or sit a cup of it on my bedside as I find it really clears my head. Also try relaxing your whole body especially tight shoulders & neck in a warm bath. Or relaxing in a dark quiet room

Thelovecats · 14/01/2015 20:41

If you continue to suffer with headaches see your GP for advice- you can take codeine if needed. Try 4head stick too- it help ward one off when it's starting.

Minnie74 · 15/01/2015 19:50

Thanks everyone for your advice. Sorry for other sufferers- it's rubbish! Slightly better today. Hopefully it'll stay like this! Or I'll try Vicks sleepybee or the stick thelovecats Thanks for the advice. Any excuse for a nap needadisconap! Smile

So sorry for u, migraines are the WORST! I'm the opposite, I don't get them when I'm pregnant funny enough but suffer normally. 8/500 cocodamol can be taken. Xxx

carbolicsoaprocked · 15/01/2015 22:45

Seconding the 4head sticks - helps so quickly x

LovelyMarchHare · 15/01/2015 23:00

Water definitely. I was drinking about 3.5 litres a day and it completely stopped the excruciating headaches. On the loo half the day mind.

eurochick · 15/01/2015 23:01

I had mild but daily headaches when pregnant. I only usually get a couple a year! I tried acupuncture and it really did the trick! I was sceptical but somehow it seemed to work n

Minnie74 · 17/01/2015 18:31

lovelymarchhare I've upped my water drinking and it seems to be helping. Thanks
eurochick I've been having acupuncture for about a year now for fertility and I mentioned my headaches. A couple of needles later and my headache was gone! It's back a little now (three days later) but nowhere near as bad. I'm a total acupuncture convert!

When i was about 12 weeks pregnant i had an awful migraine for 4 days straight, i took patacetemol and used 4head on my head as well as a cold cloth and lots of water and sat in a darkened room. Also go to your docs, cocodamol in early pregnancy (in low dose) is ok as a one off my doc said (but check with yours) x

Jaffakake · 19/01/2015 08:30

Lots of us get whacking great headaches at the beginning cos we completely cut back on caffeine. If you've done this, have a cup of tea & see what difference it makes. It's scarily dependant stuff & you need to wean yourself off it.

Water and lots of it helps too.

hazel88 · 19/01/2015 09:05

I had terrible migraines early on in pregnancy, I'm now 35+2 and thankfully they have eased. If all is well once you have rung 111 or seen your Midwife/GP maybe give this a try...it worked MAGIC for me and no paracetamol or any drugs needed! I would get in from work and have just very dim lighting in the front room, almost darkness, then I'd lay down on the couch with my feet up slowly sipping a pint or more of ice cold milk. I don't know how but every time I had one of these headaches it passed really quickly! It's so miserable, I hope you feel better soon Smile
