How many tries?

Strange question but how many, um "tries" did it take you to fall pregnant? Eg was it first time, third time, 1 month in, 3 months in etc?

What is considered "normal" and when does it become a "problem" that you should see someone about?

LP x

We weren't normal and it took a long long time. The usual advice it to pop off to your GP if nothing happens in a year though.

If you are older I'd go a bit sooner than that though.

Ladypug · 13/01/2015 20:03

I'm 32, not sure if that is older or not x

10 months first, 4 months second, 3 months third.
Everyone is different, there are so many factors-just enjoy trying. They say it happens when you least expect it and when you relax over trying x

We used pull out method for approx 2-3 yrs then I tracked my cycle for about 2 yrs & we would just avoid "fertile" days then we properly stopped preventing & I fell pregnant the 5th month. I think rules are if you try for a year & nothing happens then to see GP unless you're 35+ I think it's 6 months then GP

Sorry Lady I should have been specific. I meant older as closer to 40.

I would advise trying to take a sensible attitude to the whole thing. It is of course an exciting time, but it's wise to assume that it might take a number of months.

I've seen people on here get terribly over excited about TTC and then are devastated 3 months in when it hasn't happened. As with most things, taking a moderate approach is a good idea.

esiotrot2015 · 13/01/2015 20:25

3 months for first
1 month for second

We were very lucky

Teeste · 13/01/2015 20:33

Some books and websites tell you you have roughly a 20% chance of conceiving in any given month, but I'm fairly sure that's an average of extremes on both ends. Me, 14 months for 1st (mc), 2 months for 2nd. Actually tracking ovulation really helps!

bagofsnakes · 13/01/2015 20:34

10 months for DS
2 months for DC2 (and weren't really trying too hard during month 1!)

No rhyme, no reason. Bodies are funny things.

Meplusyouequals4 · 13/01/2015 20:41

15 cycles with DD1

8 cycles with DD2 (due in 3 weeks)

Meplusyouequals4 · 13/01/2015 20:42

Tracking body temperature and using ovulation test helps

RoganJosh · 13/01/2015 20:46

Tries or months?Smile We went for every other day from day 9-17 when we thought I was ovulating around day 14. It took 4-6 months each time.

weelamb123 · 13/01/2015 20:47

1 month for first
4 1/2 years for second!

We are all different xx

LIG1979 · 13/01/2015 21:10

8 cycles with probably about 10 goes each cycle, although probably only about 4 were in the fertile period. So 32/80 tries depending on how you look at it.

Memphisbelly · 13/01/2015 21:15

First baby 3 months, second baby 2 years, I am 32 and I was told by gp they would do tests from 18 months, I had just started fertility tests when I fell pg.

NickyEds · 13/01/2015 21:17

Ds- 5 months (I was 34 and we "tried" like rabbits but no ovulation testing or anything)
Currently 14 weeks (ds is 12 months 2 weeks. I didn't get a period until 4 weeks after I stopped bf so it was probably 3 months ttc but we weren't using contraception before then IYSWIM). I'm 35 years old and we "tried" like knackered parents of a one year old ie it's practically an immaculate conceptionSmile!

SophieBarringtonWard · 13/01/2015 21:23

DC1 unplanned at 23
DC2 first cycle at 26
Miscarriage 3 cycles at 30
DC3 (hopefully) 1 cycle at 30

mummywithLplates · 13/01/2015 21:28

We were very lucky and I was pregnant after one month both times. Thought it would be much harder as don't have regular periods and can range from 28 days to 56 days. Didn't track ovulation just did the deed every other day as I had heard that this allows sperm count to recover.

Daveface · 13/01/2015 21:29

First cycle each time. Though one resulted in miscarriage at 6 weeks.

You never know which end of the spectrum you will be. Good luck ttc.

Daveface · 13/01/2015 21:30

Meant to add that I'm on 4th pregnancy now. 2 children, one miscarriage, one in progress!

SilverStars · 13/01/2015 21:31

NHS advice is see gp if not conceive after 1yr of trying if under 35.

BathshebaDarkstone · 13/01/2015 21:34

My dad always says I only have to look at a cock to get pregnant! Grin

Spybot · 13/01/2015 21:34

First time when I was 27. It took four months. Second, when I was 29, took one month.

MrsBungle · 13/01/2015 21:36

1 month and dtd once in that month for dc1.

1 month for dc2, not sure which try it happened on!

Very quick both times for us. I did have a mc in between too which was also first month.

Karoleann · 13/01/2015 21:43

0 times for ds1 (nice surprise) @30
Once month for ds2 @32
Two months for dd @35

Did do wee on stick (ovulation tests) for DD.

MadameLeBean · 13/01/2015 21:47

0 times Karoleann? Like immaculate conception? Wink
