How many tries?

Strange question but how many, um "tries" did it take you to fall pregnant? Eg was it first time, third time, 1 month in, 3 months in etc?

What is considered "normal" and when does it become a "problem" that you should see someone about?

One month, but I had been tracking ovulation for about 6 months before.

I'm sure it was sheer luck and I was shocked to bits to get a BFP the day before my period was actually due! I ran down the stairs so fast to tell DP I nearly fell on my arse and then spent the whole morning crying.

0 times, happy little accident that happened to occur on the weekend I was ovulating, am 33

weegiemum · 13/01/2015 21:52

1st month with dd1
2nd month with ds
Weren't trying at all, in fact I got pg with a mirena with dd2

Murphy29 · 13/01/2015 22:00

Preg 1 - 2 months (mc)
Preg 2 - 3 months (mc)
Preg 3 - 2 months (mc)
Preg 4 - 1 month (mc)
Preg 5 - 1 month DS Smile

I tracked fertile days and bbt from preg 2 onwards as the month after ERPC each time was always a bit odd so gave me an idea everything was getting back to normal. I think they say try for a year and then visit Dr if necessary

I caught very quickly with all 3. Between 2-4 months roughly. But when ttc with second I did start to read up on ovulating and bodily signs out of interest and was going to buy the OV strips but discovered I was pregnant. When ttc with youngest I thought i was ovulating very early on in my cycle, purchased the OV sticks and to my surprise i was ovulating days 9-11. So as a period ends I start to ovulate sometimes 3 days later. Still the same now. A gynae consultant once told me that if a couple had sex every other night they should get pregnant. DH loved that thought.Wink I also used to lie with my hips & bottom on a pillow and legs in the air up against the wall too after the deed had been done when ttc with youngest for about 45 minutes (DH would be snoring head off and i would be getting cold and bored!) did this just to see if it worked....2 weeks later I got my BFP.....

berrypicking · 13/01/2015 22:21

We are just going into our fourth month of trying for number 1

Grumpelstiltskin · 13/01/2015 22:47

Month 14 and still trying for no1...

puddymuddles · 13/01/2015 22:49

Straight away for DD1 (age 33)
About 9 months for DD2 (age 35) - DH working away at this time so we could only 'try' at weekends!!
Currently pregnant with DC3. Took nearly a year (age 38) but wasn't too bothered as wouldn't have minded a larger gap as will have 3 under 5 when DC3 born in June!!

DramaAlpaca · 13/01/2015 22:50

10 months for DC1
1 try Wink for DC2
3 months for DC3

puddymuddles · 13/01/2015 22:50

Forgot to say never used any scientific methods, taking temperatures or ovulation sticks etc. Just got on with it and hoped it was at the right time.

glasgowlass · 13/01/2015 22:51

DS1 8 years
DS2 didn't know I was pregnant until I was 19 weeks. Born 4.5 years after DS. We were never using contraception.
I do have PCOS though.

SaBearOz · 13/01/2015 22:53

DC1- first month
DC2- first month
DC3- first month
Very surprising we have never had an unplanned pregnancy for the 19 years we were together before we agreed to 'try' for number 1. My older sister was the same and we joke with younger sisters to be warned that they might be very fertile!

tiggy2610 · 14/01/2015 06:33

4.5 years for number one...

I do,however, fall into the minority NOT the norm Smile

1 month both times and I have pcos. We didn't track anything just dtd when in the mood. I was pretty shocked both times.
This time I had only had one period as dd is still bf so I was expecting it to take months but I'm currently 23 weeks with what looks like a healthy boy :).

TookALittleLongWayRound · 14/01/2015 07:38

7 months first 3 months second

Number3cometome · 14/01/2015 08:24

Over a year first, 4 years second, 3 months third!

Skeppers · 14/01/2015 08:33

I'm 36 (35 when I conceived), husband is 42 and it took about 6 weeks. We only really 'do it' once or (occasionally) twice a week and we didn't change this pattern. First child. Very surprised it happened so quickly when everyone told us it could take at least a year! Still not quite prepared...

Bearlet · 14/01/2015 09:51

One. Attempt, not month.

We'd just had a "Shall we see what happens?" sort of conversation and didn't take precautions. The next day, we both back-pedalled and decided it would be better to think/talk it through properly. Too late. It was quite a shock at first, to be honest. I'm now 30 weeks and have just about got used to the idea. Smile

(Age 33)

Vicks72 · 14/01/2015 10:25

Happy accident with DD (withdrawal method is not a reliable form of contraception!!) so just the once & I was 35. With DS it took 2 months & I was 40. I realise how incredibly lucky I was!
