How many tries?

Strange question but how many, um "tries" did it take you to fall pregnant? Eg was it first time, third time, 1 month in, 3 months in etc?

What is considered "normal" and when does it become a "problem" that you should see someone about?

this survey is for my university research project regarding older and younger mothers and the problems they face, whether social or healthwise. would really appreciate it if some of you could complete it. should only take a few minutes:-) www.surveymonkey.com/s/367GZBH

emilypolks39 MN don't allow people to put surveys up like this on the main boards. You need to contact them & they may charge a fee.

I've reported your post (in the nicest possible way) so it can be moved.

Dc1 1st month properly trying, although we had been careless for a few months before that.

Dc2 a year exactly. Got bfp the week that I was about to book appt with gp.

Dc3 is funny really, we tried for 12 months again (although not actively this time, no opk's etc) and nothing happened. We sort of changed our minds and were happy with 2. Then over Christmas we didn't use condoms and boom! Pregnant. I was shocked but delighted.

I don't think there will be a 4th but if we did want another baby, I wouldn't wait around. It takes most people up to a year, IME (speaking to friends and sisters)

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 14/01/2015 12:22

12 months for my first, got pregnant accidentally second time, so no 'tries'.

sianihedgehog · 14/01/2015 12:32

I'm 37, first time was literally first try, but unfortunately I miscarried. Second time took two months.

SingRingPing · 14/01/2015 12:54

Age late 20s.
1st: 2 months
2nd: 1st month (mc @11 weeks)
3rd: 4 months (currently 13 weeks)

eastcoastmum2014 · 14/01/2015 14:35

We tried for a month, didn't have chance to try in the second month as I was away visiting family during fertile time, didn't really try third month just had it when we felt like it and we got pregnant ??... Everyone is different but not trying worked for is!

weeblueberry · 14/01/2015 14:56

First time I stopped using contraception in the January and was pregnant in the August. But didn't start thinking about when I might be fertile and taking a more active approach til the June.

This time it was a case of 'we'll try this month and (due to a number of reasons) if it doesn't happen we'll wait another 8 months or so before trying again'.

First month.

m33r · 14/01/2015 16:34

20 loooooooong months. Age 30/31. Physically healthy. No fertility issues just took a while

geekymommy · 14/01/2015 16:40

4 months first time at age 36, 3 months this time at age 39. Had just gone off the Pill both times. No fertility treatments or testing for ovulation, though I've always been obsessed (either with not getting pregnant or with getting pregnant), so I've always known when my next period was due.

32 isn't older, at least not in the US. Here, "older" for pregnancy is 35 or older. I don't know if there are different standards where you are.

CommanderShepard · 14/01/2015 16:56

I'm 32. Conceived DD first go, pregnancy 2 second month (ended in miscarriage at 5 weeks), now 5 weeks again having conceived 2 weeks after miscarriage. But we'll see how it goes.

EeekNumber4 · 14/01/2015 17:01

1st: 1 month
2nd: didn't try ;)
3rd: 2 years!
4th: had an ectopic pregnancy in May, started not using contraception in July and left it to fate - took 1 month!

I really believe things happen when they are supposed to, especially after trying so long for number 3. We had all the fertility tests and they could find nothing wrong?!

iniquity · 14/01/2015 17:19

4th cycle at 23, 6th cycle at 30. It as also depends on rhw contraception you were using beforehand. I don't think I ovulated the first 3 months after coming off pill despite having period.
Anything under 2 years is considered normal.

Jadeykinz · 14/01/2015 17:24

Hi :) we came off my pill in February as it had stopped working correctly after 5 years. Me and OH agreed to be careful and if it happens then we'd both be over the moon, me thinking it would take a good year for my body to adjust to find out we're pregnant after 2 periods off of the pill.
If you have any concerns about conceiving or infertility make an appointment with your doctor, there be more than happy to help :) hope that helps

Jadeykinz · 14/01/2015 17:25

So it took 3 months not intentionally trying and im 21 btw x

Purplehonesty · 14/01/2015 17:30

I was very quick with both of mine - 2nd try for both I think.
I was 29 and 32
But then my cycle is like clockwork and I know I ovulate really early. So it was wait for af to finish and dtd every day for three days.

callamia · 14/01/2015 17:33

I was 31, and it took 8 months after I stopped taking the pill.

MrsTawdry · 14/01/2015 17:37

2 tries with one and one try with 2...I did the egg white mucus thing. If you want to know more it's where you watch out for this thing called "Egg white mucus" or ewm.

It's a clear, very stretchy fluid which women emit as they ovulate. I watched and waited for that...as soon as I saw it we did the deed and bingo.

MrsTawdry · 14/01/2015 17:37

Should say...I was 31 with number 1 and 35 with number 2.

TinyCaterpillar · 14/01/2015 17:45

DC1 - 16 months (started trying age 27)
DC2 - 1 month (age 30)
DC3 - 3 months (age 32)

No rhyme or reason really!
