Asprin and Preeclampsia

Hi,
I've just found out I'm expecting #2 and am very exited. I had severe preeclampsia when pregnant with DS and was given an emergency C-Section at 35 weeks, afterwards the consultant told me that should I ever have another baby I should take asprin every day as soon as I got a positive test result, has anyone else been told this?

Hello!

Yes me, I had eclampsia with DC1 (seizures in labour) and with DC2 I was only told about 26 weeks to take daily aspirin (developed pre-eclampsia but held on until 38 weeks)

Currently expecting DC3 and took aspirin (baby dose only) from the day I found out I was pregnant.

It's no guarantee and studies are few and far between but apparently it can help blood flow to the placenta. I was treated at Kings College London with DC2 and this was the advice I was given.

Please try not to worry, I was terrified I would have seizures again, and although the pre-eclampsia was not fun, they really kept an eye on me and this time I am full consultant care again.

Hiya
Yes I did this twice from the right time and still got pre eclampsia both times pregnancies 2 &3, started going downhill minute thirs trimester started. So it clearly didn't work for me.

Worth a shot though!

Another one here. Aspirin and clexane since 12 weeks. Clexane due to level of iugr baby had and also how high bp got. Has been helping blood flow although now signs pe is starting again (was 32 weeks last time am now 34 but bp going up and baby growth slowing).
My gp prescribed for me as I'd seen consultant for pre conception consultation but midwife also told me to see gp for aspirin at my booking in app.

I should add that I am also on Methyldopa (Bisoprolol when not in pregnancy) due to a permanent condition caused by the Eclampsia.

Geez we are gluttons for punishment Wink

Actually despite the Eclampsia DS was 9lb born on due date, and DD was 8lb 2oz at 38 weeks.

No idea what this one will be!

Good luck ladies and may we all steer clear of any evil Pre-Eclampsia symptoms.

Hi. I am at risk of ore-eclampsia due to my age and essential hyper tension and have been on baby aspirin from 12 weeks (when placenta takes over) to reduce the risk. I'm week 31 and all is well . Have they prescribed this for you?

tryingfortwo14 · 13/01/2015 10:19

Hi,
Thanks for all your replies :)
I'm only 4/5 weeks atm and don't have my first doctors appointment until monday. I was a bit unsure about taking anything without asking the doctor first but I think i might nip out and get some today just to be on the safe side.
Number3cometome - Thank you for telling me not to worry, DS's birth wasn't a very good experience but I'm crossing my fingers that all goes well with this one

I had pre emclampisa at 24 weeks, unfortunately my baby was still born, at one stage I was given an hour to live so I was pretty far gone. Doctors have said they want my on aspirin 3months before we try again, also a few other drugs as well, yet to start trying again but I've got a appointment in a few weeks to discuss it.

I think when we do everything we can to help ourselves we have to rely on fate to get us through, no amount of worrying will change that.
The worrying just adds to the pre-eclampsia risks, they know your history and you are in good hands!

As long as you don't have any other pre-existing illnesses, the baby aspirin is perfectly safe to take in pregnancy as long as it is in the lowest dose and ONLY once per day x

weelamb123 · 13/01/2015 12:24

Yes, ive just been advised to start taking it at 13 weeks. Xx

I had hypertension in last pregnancy so was referred to a consultant this time round due to increased risk of PE. I had my appointment at 15 weeks and was given a prescription for aspirin and told to take it until 36 weeks.
