I am currently 4 weeks so early in pregnancy and having lots of cramping over a week . Last night I woke up with a stitch on my left hand side which lasted 20 mins ! Also not to mention the amount of gas coming from me !! I am so worried about the cramps ... Is this normal ?? Or is paranoia taking over me ?

It's normal I've had them the last 2 weeks I'm now 7 weeks and my gp said it's perfectly normal!

Bloating and gas are textbook examples of pregnancy troubles. It helped me a bit to switch to still water from sparkling. And also try to avoid foods that normally make you feel bloated. Exercise (brisk walks, 1h a day) helps me too.

OP I'm 15wks and had cramps and trapped wind so bad they would keep me up at night right through from 4 to about 11 weeks! Best thing I found to help reduce it (on advice from mw) was to:

  1. Lay on your side at night in a fetal position, and put a pillow between your legs to keep your hips aligned. This will help with cramps and backpain in early pregnancy.
  2. Hot water bottle on the stomach for cramps - treat it like a normal AF! I lived on a new hot water bottle every few hours in the early weeks, cause as soon as I took it away the cramps came back!
  3. Cut out (or back if you can't handle it) on fizzy drinks like coke etc. However, sparkling water ironically does seem to help with with wind!
  4. Eat lots of fruit and veg, will help with digestion, and loosen stools for relief of constipation (which you will get soon!) and in turn seems to help with trapped wind
  5. Fybogel. Its a natural fibre drink, and completely safe (and recommended) in pregnancy. take it twice a day after food, you can get it in most pharmacies or supermarkets. this again is for constipation, but good to stock up early!
  6. Finally, if your cramps are still bad. Take paracetamol. About the only drug that's safe to take, and all the Dr's and mw will tell you to take!

Hope this helps, Good luck! Smile

Rennies Deflatine are really good for trapped wind, have been taking them since I was about 7 weeks, and am now 21 weeks, you can take up to 11 in a day, but I try to limit this to half that where possible

I'm having the exact same problem!! 4 and a half weeks here!

MissTwister · 12/01/2015 13:40

I had the worst constipation/ wind from the get go. Its calmed down a bit now at 11+4. I got ligament stretching pain from 4 weeks too which is most odd!

Yep, epic gas is a pregnancy symptom. One of the few I get!

I didn't know I was pregnant til a good week after my AF was due, as I was convinced AF was arriving due to the constant cramps and normal "period-like" symptoms... I only did a test as I was starting to think something was up as I'm never usually that late (only left it that late as was on antibiotics for a viral infection, so assumed that was messing with it!) and someone who is pregnant at work made a comment about me being so unwell over that week, and looking at her prompted me to test!

But I continued to have period-like symptoms right upto almost 13 weeks! (inc. spotting) was in and out of EPU so many times I'm surprised they didn't know my face! Made the mistake of googling also, and got myself so worked up all the time...

Sorry I'm early July, but good luck and congrats! x
