Best nightlight for changing/feeding? Gro light?

Hi everyone,

I'm due in 4 weeks and need a couple of night lights, one for my bedroom and one for the nursery. I want something dimly lit enough to not wake the baby fully but light enough to be able to see what I'm doing when feeding/changing etc

The gro light and gro egg looks good? Any experience of using them? Or any other recs?

We have small salt lamps for that. They give a lovely warm glow, and won't get hot, so safe for crawling/moving babies as well.

The gro egg isn't bright enough ad a night light. We just use touch lamps from John Lewis that have 3 different brightness levels.

I just use the light from my phone, all the nightlights I tried were either too bright or not bright enough.

Hmmm that's not ideal! I can see myself tripping up trying to find my way from my bedroom to the nursery! x

If you are following advice for baby to be in your room for the first 6 months, you may not even need anything in the nursery as baby may be sleeping through by then :) I'd sort something for your bedroom then reassess if you need anything once the baby is in the nursery.

The baby is unlikely to wake up if you are feeding them. If they're tired they'll go back to sleep. As long as it still seems like night-time. You can use a small, normal lamp. First time round I did all that phone-nightlight stuff until I realised they've only woken to get the milk. Once you've given that to them they'll go straight back to sleep!!

We've just changed the switch to a dimmer - or first so no idea if this will work, but seems like it will give enough light to do stuff but not completely wake baby (and me!) up.

I second the light from a phone - tried several night lights in the early days to find that none were bright enough without being too bright (hurt my eyes, not DS's! He has the sense to keep his closed when waking for food)

My Tomy baby monitor had a nightlight on it that worked really well for us. I also have a bedside lamp that has three brightness settings, the lowest not disturbing dh too much.

With baby in our room until 6 months we just used our normal bedside lamp- since no nappy changes at night.
But a god send has been the fisher price sea horse - lullaby and night light. It's a bit ugly but toddler ds can now squeeze it for light when he needs comforting at night and I have used it to help give medicine at night or check other things.
Not the cutest but soothing music and light.

We got a plug in one from ikea for about 3 quid.

I am gutted that my night lights that i have used every single night for the last 3 years have finally stopped working. And I can't seem to source a new battery for them, which i think is the problem. They were so handy, portable, recharchable, safe to leave with the kids, just the right brightness. By OXO, called Tooli night lights. I loved them.....

helly29- we have a dimmer switch in our bedroom and it's worked really well for us so far and DS is 3 months old.....trying to persuade DH to change the light switch in the nursery now!

We've draped some fairy lights over the dresser in the nursery, they're in warm white, look brill and give off just enough light.

We have a set by Lindam, they give off a nice blue glow and visibility is good enough to change nappy but still easy enough to sleep through. DH bought them from Morrisons for a couple of quid a few weeks back.

Oh and we've also got a gro egg which doesn't give off much light at all but consistently stays red and angry at the moment! I wouldn't recommend unless you like feeling guilty that your bedroom is apparently too warm!

DH rigged up a bulb on a clip with a dimmer switch. The bulb clips onto the bedside cot and the dimmer switch is right beside me. I leave it on very very low all night and just turn it up slightly as needed. Easy to do if you are reasonably handy.

When the DTs were in our room I threw a few muslins over the lampshade, when they were in their own room (with me, I decamped) I bought an IKEA little ghost night light. It can be mains run or recharges so it can be used not plugged in. Still using it now. We also had a dimmer switch put in but we mainly use that at bedtime as part of the pre-bedtime 'routine' (ha)

I absolutely love my aden & anais star - nightlight, breast feeding diary, temp monitor (it goes a red/blue glow if too cold/hot), plays lullaby's, heartbeat & white noise. it's a gentle glow but bright enough. looks lovely as well

Buy a normal bulb for a lamp in a 10watt or 15 watt power. Will cost just a few pounds and then you can go back to brighter bulbs in the future. Your eyes adjust quite well to the dim light, I can even read by mine.
