Getting extra scans following partial molar pregnancy

Hoping to get some advice from anyone who has previously had a molar pregnancy. Today I had my booking in appointment with the midwife at 7.5 weeks. After a miscarriage last year due to a partial mole, I'm really keen to have some additional scans to rule out another molar pregnancy but the midwife advised this is not something she can help with, she can only book me in for the dating scan at 12w. I don't know how to organise the additional scans or when is best to have them and feel quite lost. Does anyone have any advice? Feeling very nervous about having a repeat episode, just want to make sure this baby is healthy.

I've not had a molar pregnancy but I did have a miscarrige last year. This was diagnosed at my local hospital's early pregnancy unit (EPU). They told me to go back to them next time I was pregnant for a reassurance scan regardless of bleeding /no bleeding etc. could you try your local EPU? If you need a referral, your GP should be able to help. AFAIK anxiety after previous loss is a solid reason for referal.

Number of options..

1. Ask gp to refer you.
2. Some EPU s will see you without a referral. You might need to report pain and or bleeding to be seen. Personally, absolutely I'd lie to get seen!
3. Pay for a private scan.

I have had a molar pregnancy but have not had a pregnancy since.

I would second contacting your EPU as a first port of call, and maybe contact the hospital that dealt with the additional monitoring after the molar pregnancy and ask their advice on what checks and monitoring is necessary for this pregnancy,and how you would access this.

As you will already know you should not be made to wait for the 12 week scan as an ordinary pregnancy would.

I would not have thought it appropriate to pay for a private scan under these circumstances. This is not a normal reassurance scan for a worried mum.

Unless you have access to a private healthcare plan, and can find someone experience in this field. But I would not use the 3D type scan places

Do NOT lie to get a scan. That's absurd advice You should be getting a scan due to the previous partial molar pregnancy (sorry to hear about that). The hospital which co-ordinated your monitoring can advise on this and your GP could refer you. Frankly the midwife who saw you today should have known that too and should be able to arrange the scan.

I had a complete molar pregnancy and chemo back in 2013. I am currently 6.5 weeks and I have already had one scan and I will continue to have them every 10 days until 12 weeks then it will be every two weeks.
The moment I found out that I could potentially be pregnant I emailed my oby/gyn and I was having a scan two days later.
Which treatment centre were you under in the uk? Could they possibly help in getting you an early scan?
I was treated as an overseas patient as I left the uk and finished my treatment back home so I afraid I don't know how the system works in the uk.
But I really hope that you get some early scans as having to wait til 12 weeks to find out what is going on is just not acceptable after a molar pregnancy.

Yes I thought the same about today's midwife. She gave very bad advice there. It is not appropriate to wait till 12 weeks in your situation.

And also agree DO NOT lie. They absolutely need your full history so that they are looking for molar tissue. They are not scanning to check on the health of the baby this time.

As other posters have said, you should be receiving an early pregnancy scan. The midwife or Gp should referr you for those
Were you under care of Charing cross at all? After the previous pregnancy you should have been given aftercare information about how long you should leave it until you should become pregnant again and what happnes when you are pregnant again after a molar.
Ring your midwife or gp Monday morning

After my mp I was referred for early scans in each of my pregnancies by Charing Cross, the specialist centre who co ordinated my care. I don't know which centre you used, but I would call their support line and ask their advice.

Thanks everyone for your views. I'm not comfortable lying about bleeding just to get a scan, it feels like tempting fate & not fair to the people who genuinely are having bleeding. I'll see what the EPU say and if they're not helpful, I'll see what Weston Park (where I had my treatment) say. I feel like a GP won't understand but maybe that's not fair. Really I'm just disappointed that the midwife didn't help me & yet again I'm scrabbling round for information on something that's not widely understood.

Do you have to do any follow up, rascal? At Charing Cross there was a dedicated phone line that you could ring at any time for advice or results - they were the ones who sorted my scans.

Not the same but I had an ectopic pregnancy last April and was scanned with this pregnancy at 6 weeks to check was in the right place (thankfully yes)

If EPU won't scan you, just pay for a private reassurance scan. You can get them under £99, worth it for your sanity and peace of mind.

Congratulations on your pregnancy and recovery from MP. I had a molar pregnancy last year in Feb.
I'm now 25 weeks, and had a scan at 8 weeks.

I simply booked an appointment with my GP who then gave me a referral form for the EPU. The GP doesn't need an in-depth understanding of molars, they just need to know that it is protocol to receive a scan and that you need to be booked in for one.

I just said, 'Charring Cross has said I need to be referred for an EPU scan because of my previous molar pregnancy.' And that was that, no questions asked.
