How to announce to dh

Hello, I have just got a BFP. (Still in complete shock) with our ds it took 3yrs to get BFP so when I told him I just came screaming in the bedroom from the bathroom waving a pregnacy stick under his nose. He was asleep at the time so didn't get the reaction I had hoped for. This time around it's happened on our 3rd cycle. Hence the shock.

So I want to announce it to him nicely.

I was thinking having some cupcakes made saying your going to be a daddy. His favourite choc ones.

Or getting ds a tshirt that said I'm going to be a big brother. Or big brother in training?

Any ideas, any experiences

Hmmm, bit mixed with this, to make all that effort, you've got to have some expectation of a completely over the moon reaction (I'm sure he will be chuffed! just blokes don't show it like we do!) , will you end of upset if he doesn't see the cup cakes and spin you around the living room in joy?

Sorry if I sound miserable, I just remember telling my DP over the phone as he was out, and he was in shock but happy, and I kind of expected that he'd bring me flowers and pick me up in joy when he got in but when he did return he could barely look at me (like a naughty teenager who had been caught masturbating by his mother) and I felt quite let down, but I think that's entirely because I'd romanticised it in my head so much!

But if you really want to do a big announcement there are lots of ideas on Pinterest. Have a search!

I would just tell him.

If you are going to go down the cupcake route make sure you spell it correctly.

Call him and ask him to fetch a take away on the way home, when he asks why say because you've already got a bun in the oven.

It's not too over the top
It's funny
You don't have to cook
You get to celebrate with take away.

I don't want to sound like a grouch but I always wince at anything along "im going to be a big brother" lines in the very early days. I didn't mention bring pg to dc1 until I'd had my first scan. I just think should the worst happen, a small child might find it very hard.

Chill a beer and pop a teething ring round it or something? I don't know - I'm not very creative.

youll I'm the same. I couldn't bare the thought of my 5 year old being let down and it's such a long wait that we didn't tell him until 20 weeks!

Your prob right though, he will prob have the same reaction how ever I tell him.

Looked on Pinterest they are all very elaborate and over the top. Which was why I was thinking the cupcakes as that's what would get the reaction. The fact that I brought his fav.

If I did go down this route what would the message be?

You're going to be a daddy (thanks for the heads up on spelling )

I'm pregnant?

We did it?

The more I think about it maybe the takeaway is a better idea?

I think it's lovely to tell him in an unexpected way. I told my dh I had a present for him but it would take a bit of time to arrive, then showed him a photo of the test (we were in a restaurant). He was blown away

Hehe, if I did that with my DP and made his favourite (gingerbread men) he would have eaten half of them before even noticing anything

Oooh does he like gingerbread men? I just had an idea! A ' Sangria family spot the difference' with 2014 and 2015! 2014 would have 2 ginger bread adults and a baby and 2015 would have two ginger bread adults and two babies!

Although if I did that for my DP, he definitely would have eaten the children before looking at it properly!

I had all these plans in my head for how to tell DH and then today I got my BFP, whatsapped DH to say 'are you sitting down?' then a pic of my test just captioned: 'FUUUUUCCCCCKKK!!' haha

I saw one the other day where the couple announced it by a video showing their older kid the ultrasound and him saying "baby! Baby!" Obviously the 2 year old had been prepped beforehand. Maybe you could do something along those lines, not an ultrasound yet but something similar?

To me 'you're going to be a daddy' doesn't make sense, as he already is one?

I like the brother tshirt idea, as like you say he is too young to understand what it means, so no harm.

I first wanted to wait until DH gets home from work in the evening but couldn't hold it that long. So ended up taking a photo of the 2 positive tests and sending him a picture. It took him about an hour to call me back as he was in mtg and didn't look at phone :-)

Maybe I'll leave it and just tell him later. But think I will order a tshirt of ds to tell the grandparents.

A friend just shared her news, had to try do hard not spill. Although it will be lovely as our ds are 10wk apart and these two will be about 8wks perfect timing.

I did a cheapie earlier, I have a digital so might do that before he gets home. Does the result stay on them?

I think it stays for 24 hours? I've bought one today so that I can test at home with DH tomorrow morning just to show him in plain black and white and that's what the instructions say.

I just came out with it in the middle of a conversation. Can't remember exactly what we were talking about. But I just dropped it in. No fuss.

DH was all "and that's not the first thing you tell me?!" Type of reaction. But I could think how to bring it up.

Pinterest is dangerous. Full of crazyAmericans with FAR too much time on their hands!

No offence to Americans. My dh is half American. His mum is so OTT it's ridiculous!!

I got my 16 month old DS to take the pregnancy test to DH! Luckily DS played his part well and handed it over quite happily. DH didn't understand for a good few seconds!

He's your husband and the baby's father - I don't think he should need a novelty announcement - just tell him! The news itself should be enough!

I too don't think this announcement stuff sounds too healthy tbh.
Just tell him. It will be lovely without the grand announcement.
